Walking along Ashford Avenue in San Juan, we remembered reading about Tacos & Tequila in the Condado Vanderbilt hotel. So, we decided to stop by for a bite. We chose seating outside (of course). The area is beautiful with views of the ocean and a nice breeze. There was a small pool on the other side of our table with 6 in pool loungers. Very cool. Our server was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. My husband had Tinga tacos which were so flavorful and fresh. I opted for the Birria tacos which I have never had (gasp). Practically on the beach, the interior is light and airy, with large open glass doors. There is also seating outside on the patio. Service was very courteous but not quick. Excellent guacamole and blue corn tortilla chips. The chilaquiles were a bit disappointing compared to the way it is prepared elsewhere. Tacos were fine. Guac was delicious! A great selection of non alcoholic margaritas that I really appreciated being pregnant. Beautiful view of the beach. Service is a little spotty but I only ordered via the pool. read more

I think that you can generally find something better value at a place like Acapulco tacos on Calle Loiza instead if you're looking for more street tacos. The dining room was fully reserved so we were seated in the bar at a high table. The wind gusts in from the ocean, so bring a hair tie. MG took a video because her long, wildly curly hair was tossed about while we ate. Service was good, Sarah & Hector were friendly, prompt, and accommodating. Margaritas are good and MG enjoyed the El Viejo (a bit spicy) while I had a margarita. The Camarones de Coco (coconut shrimp) was delicious but my Tuna Tostado set my mouth on fire and I changed my order to the shrimp. The shrimp are huge, light tempura batter and coconut covered in a delicious sauce. I was too hungry to snap a photo! We went on a Monday night around 7 o'clock. Table for 2. Made a reservation beforehand and had no wait when we showed up. I ordered birria tacos and they were delicious. You have the option to get either 2 or 3. Though it is just the tacos themselves. No rice or salad included. Still I added the rice to my meal and didn't regret it. The nachos were listed under the appetizers, don't let that stop you from getting them as a meal if you'd like. My wife wanted them as her entree and they were more than enough. She didn't finish them. Even better than the food was the view. We sat outside and you probably should too if that's you're thing. You're right at the water with the sound of waves crashing in the background. No alcoholic drinks for either of us. I only got a sprite and water (they used bottled Fiji if you order it still but sparkling was also an option) but my wife had 2 mocktails. She said they were really good. Strawberry and mango flavors. Nachos, 3 birria tacos, side of rice, 2 mocktails, and 1 glass of sprite. Not sure if the water was free or not honestly lol. Everything came to almost $105 before tip. We had a good dinner at Tacos and Tequila! The online reviews are a bit mixed... we thought it was pretty good. Our waitress was decent, although she did disappear at times (it wasn't crowded, we could see the few tables she was serving). The prices are expensive for the value here, $20+ for cocktails... when you add the island's 17.5% taxes at restaurants, a $200 tab happens quickly. (PS the suggested tips are based on the inflated "after taxes" bill amount... watch out for that!). The octopus ceviche was decent, a bit fishy (pretty common in PR for seafood). The chips served with it were good. We had the seared tuna in green mole next... that was better! The gastro star of the nice was our last dish, the chicken tinga tacos. Great ambience. Ocean views. Good service. Really good tacos. Didn't take photos because toddler had my phone. Chicken quesadillas were a hit with the kiddo but the tortilla was a bit soggy. Soggy nachos too. I like my nachos to have crunch, even if covered in cheese, chicken, and beans. Loved the fish tacos, al pastor tacos, and jalapeño margarita. I'll try to go again and take photos this time. The menu is a bit confusing. For some tacos you must order at least two but for some tacos one is ok. Overall, had a great time. The margarita was something like $17 or $19. This place is good but just know you will be spending some decent money to go here. The hotel it is in is very pretty. The beautiful atmosphere and stunning ocean views of this restaurant caught my eye upon arrival to San Juan. We were not guests of the Condado Vanderbilt and I felt as if the employees looked down on us for this reason. On a more positive note, the staff seemed well trained and knew the menu quite well. The presentation of all of our dishes was beautiful and garnished accordingly. Don't get me wrong, the food was good, however, there was not much of a "wow" factor that made the dishes worth their price in my opinion. The guacamole was great, but not worth $19- and for that price, it seemed stingy to be charged $4 for extra chips when there were hardly any provided in the first place. The Fish, Shrimp, and Al Pastor tacos were tasty, however, I think they could easily be replicated, just like their average jalapeno margarita. Overall, this beachside restaurant has lovely scenery going for them, however, if you aren't looking to pay a premium for mediocre food, then I strongly suggest checking out any of the other beachside establishments on Ashford Avenue. read more

We went late night for some tacos. The pulpo ceviche was good and well balanced. Our cocktails were delicious. As for the tacos- yes they are good, but don't go there hungry if you are not looking to spend. We also had carne asada tacos and it was really just meat on the tacos; still delicious and light- but to charge 20$ for 2 tacos was kind of laughable. Second, we tried the chicken tinga taco. It was just ok. I should've trusted the other reviews. The tacos are just ok. Nothing noteworthy. Third, order the ribeye!!!! Trust me. It's worth it if you can share with someone else. It's delicious and comes with corn tortillas, onion, cilantro, homemade salsa, beans and amazing potatoes drizzled with either sour cream or crema. We had small tacos, the tinga (chicken) el pastor and shrimp and two delicious drinks!! That I don't know what was in them... but omg did I get messed up lol (which is not my norm after 1 drink). This place was simply dreadful. The service was slow, even by local standards. Worse still was, despite their name, they made lousy margaritas. Perhaps we're the example that proves the definition of insanity but we tried drinks from them several times before realizing the only way they could credibly serve a tequila drink was as shots. And the food wasn't any better. Their guacamole was tasteless. Their tacos (the other part of their name) were smallish corn tortillas with bits of the main ingredients (shrimp, beef, what have you) covered with a mound of lettuce and a bit of oily sauce. Yummyyyyyy t&t was open two days out of the four that I stayed at condado. I had to go both days and I would've went all four days if they had been open all week. The view at this restaurant is unreal. I felt so at peace eating at t&t. The service was amazing, the food was delicious, and the ocean view made my heart feel so full. Javier and Tania were phenomenal and so sweet like all the other waiters I didn't have the chance to meet.
