He informed me before we started that he 'normally doesn't do returns.' Great. After a painful TWO HOURS my return was done. The front desk guy had to ask his coworkers for help on basically every question. The grand total came out to about $450. What a scam! Apparently they charge per form, and since I had forms for working in two states I was basically charged double. The charged me $75 for one form that had two lines of information to fill out AND the guy didn't even know how to fill it out. I have told almost everybody I know to avoid H&R Block at all costs. This place is a ripoff. Turbotax does a quicker, easier job for approximately 15% of the cost.

I was charged $315 as a college student for my 2022 tax returns…read more The tax preparer, Mr. Rosenberg in Jefferson Valley, did not submit the payment due electronically as documented in the tax return until approximately 16 months later and I received notices from NYS incurring almost $200 in interest and penalties. RG Brenner's management is giving me the run-around in reimbursing these fees. Their first offer they made was a $150 credit toward my next tax return preparation...really? I made it clear I would not be using their services again. Their next offer was a check for $100 and a $100 credit toward my next tax return. I didn't accept this offer because I made it clear I would not be returning and am still waiting for their response. Management will not respond directly...they communicate via their customer service reps. This has been a very frustrating and time-consuming experience and still is unresolved. I will continue to pursue full reimbursement of the fees incurred as a result of Mr. Rosenberg's negligence. In the meantime I will to warn others of the way this company treats its customers. RUN!!!

I've had some bad run-ins with accountants in the past. Many I've used have been short and gruff and even downright rude, with no patience for questions. I'm sorry, but you shouldn't be afraid to ask your accountant for the information you need to prepare! One time, I decided to "get serious" about my taxes because my business was growing, and chose a sharky "business accountant" who was a friend of a friend. That guy not only didn't save me anything (forgive me, but I really took it in the rear that year), but he ALSO required a retainer and fleeced me to the tune of a couple thousand plus. I'd had enough at that point and was determined to find someone I could really work with. A friend of mine had kept recommending Alfred Kach, but I'd heard it all before from other people about my former accountants and was skeptical. Well, I'm so pleased to say that I've now been with Alfred through several years of taxes, and she was right; this is my guy. He totally "gets" creative types, and has had this wonderful way of putting me at ease, patiently answering any questions I might have. Alfred is an old codger; he spends two hours plus on my taxes while I'm sitting there, writing everything out on a ledger sheet with a pencil, old school style. No computer programs for this guy, at least not when he's getting started on them. He's also slightly hard of hearing, so you need to speak up. But I'll tell ya, this guy is sharp as a tack, make no mistake about it. He is up on all the latest tax laws and deductions, and knows exactly what needs to be done (and not done) to whittle down that tax bill. He doesn't miss a trick, and he makes sure you don't, either, and will ask you about things you might have missed (none of my other accountants have done this for me). At the end, it all get's E-Filed, if that's your preference. He's saved me a lot of money and unnecessary anxiety, and doesn't overcharge me, either. Alfred is THE MAN! I laugh now when I think back to that other "big-deal" accountant who saved me so little and charged me so much.
