We had a disastrous experience with this firm. They charged us $750 after our first meeting (before the taxes were done) and then made many, many errors on the return they sent us. The amount of taxes they said we owed was five times the amount we finally paid when another firm did our taxes. They were unresponsive and unprofessional. This is a tax mill and with that use them at your own risk. I worked with Ron for the past three years and had the same conversation over and over again. Pre tax meet up then again Tax day. Then the next year, lather rinse repeat. And then this year where I managed to have it four times as he was late in filing, lost documentation and of course attempted to blame me for that error. Irony is that I attached the docs to the check.. the check cleared. Go figure. Sloppy workmanship, endless whining as when your taxes are more complex that Turbo Tax allows means you will pay more in both taxes, penalties or fees to an agent who is not worth any of it. Broadway Tax Professionals are expert at helping with taxes and complex issues with the IRS and New York State. We needed help with our tax return due to an error that the IRS/ NYSTATE made! NICK assisted us and he knew exactly where the error was. He reached out to IRS and New York State until he was able to speak with someone who understood the problem. It pains me to publicly speak poorly of a small business, but my experience with Nick from Broadway included some of the worst financial services I've ever received. Nick worked on my tax return and made several egregious mistakes that even the most junior CPA should have caught. This resulted in an audit from the state and me having to deal with the headache of providing a ton of additional documents to them, not to mention a huge adjustment required after the audit. Nick's people skills were very poor throughout the process, and despite his numerous mistakes caught by the state, he still insisted on charging me full price for the services, telling me it was "more than fair" for the time he spent. But when a customer calls to inquiry about your tax preparations services and woman answering the phone is rude with a dismissive tone (the audacity of a customer calling) then it throws customers off and sends them running. I was referred by a friend and had the worst experience with Broadway Tax--it became a nightmare: They agreed to take me as a client and then simply, and deliberately, ghosted on me. I ended up not only missing the deadline but also wasting tons of time waiting and following up with them. The experience was so bad that it even prompted me to write my very first yelp review. I contacted Broadway tax in March--with an email and then phone calls. Robert agreed on doing my taxes and I sent him the requested materials. It wasn't until a week before the tax-filing deadline they started working on my case (after multiple calls and emails). There were simply no responses after I resubmitted everything they requested (some were materials I sent weeks ago, and clearly nobody paid attention to it). On the day of the deadline I called them and some person on the phone pointed out "on my file there's a note about my spouse's status"--which I provided the requested information several times. What's worse: nobody told me the hiccup on the last day of tax filing, and nobody did anything after I called them (Robert was out of the office the next day). I tried to be a reasonable person and followed up with them after they've already missed my deadline (oh it's a high season and all). I called them after a week, asking if it's okay to have any accountant to work on my case. I did it twice--both times I got apologetic answers and void promises of "having someone to look into it immediately". Now it's already May and no one followed up with me. I was really shocked and disappointed, especially as a client who's being referred to this firm. My tax situation is not complicated--it took another accountant a week to get it sorted and eventually filed. We are from Seattle. For years, we have listened to the "read my lips...no new taxes" folks, and wondered what the big deal was. Our taxes seemed pretty straight forward, and very fair...then, we moved to NYC. Holy Crap...the taxes here are insane! We used Broadway Tax Professionals for our 2016 return after previously having done our return using online tools. Overall, I was not impressed with their service during the preparation time. I had absolutely no contact with the accountant and only spoke with various interns who were clearly under intense time pressure and working to complete the return as quickly as possible. The results were no savings in what we owed compared to previous years. But much worse- several months later we were informed by the IRS that there was an error in our return and too much was requested for child care deduction. This was something I had discussed as an issue with one of the interns and clearly was a blatant mistake that I would not expect from a professional doing my taxes. I scanned and forwarded the notice to the firm over email twice as well as called and was completely ignored. I received no guidance confirming that they had indeed made an error and whether I should pay the suggested payment and penalty from the IRS. Ultimately, I had to just pay without hearing any word from them. This is not the type of service I would expect and I would certainly be wary of using this firm. Errors should be avoidable but can happen but not responding when an error does occur is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. read more
