But Kristen started off my appointment saying she has lots of clients with thick hair like me, and she loves doing ombres. Yay! Nerves were somewhat relieved. I showed her a picture and she immediately understood what I wanted. She asked if I wear my hair straight or curly, and I told her I did both. So she made it so that it'd be ombre when curly, and a nice peek-a-boo when straight, to avoid the dreaded line across the hair. After almost 5 hours in the salon (I said I had thick hair!) I was done and looking great. During that time, she gave me some great tips for styling it at home. She also gave me a great haircut, and the salon gives free bang trims, so upkeep is a breeze. She really listens to what I want in my cut and color. She also gives great input when asked. Every time I go in there I come out looking and feeling fantastic. She doesn't fry my blonde hair. I came here on June 25 and arrived in time for my appointment. In fact I was about ten minutes…read moreearly. Upon entering the building the whole staff including Shaleen (my stylist) greeted me and I took a seat while she finished up on another client. Roughly twenty minutes later she comes to tell me the water has been shut off due to some work being done to the AC and asked would I like to reschedule. I declined and told her I'd wait it out. Twenty minutes went by and the water was back on. As she shampooed we discussed my hair regimen, last cut etc. In between me getting a wash and having my conditioning treatment in she was servicing other customers which I didn't mind as long as I wasn't kept waiting too long. After the treatments we went to dry and it seemed to take forever then I had to go to her chair and get a blow out so she could cut my hair. She took a picture and explained what was damaged, how much should come off etc. I opted for a 4in. cut and wanted to do more but she insisted I start here first which was a little annoying because I was ready for a change but just went with the flow. After she cut my hair that's when her attitude seemed to change. I asked to use the SALON phone because mine was dead and my husband had dropped me off. I was barely on the phone for three minutes before she was asking me to get off saying they needed to keep the line open as if call waiting doesn't exist and basically snatched the phone out of my hand while I was trying to put it down on the counter. She proceeded to Bantu Knot my hair and at one point got on her phone with her kid and still seemed to have a sour disposition as I could hear her conversation. Again total night and day from when I walked in. When she was finished she didn't even turn me around so I could check out her work or offer a mirror she simply said,"ok follow me to the back for your payment breakdown". I don't know maybe she was having a bad day. Pros: This is Black owned, conveniently located, welcoming atmosphere, clean Cons: The stylist I had was fickle and rapport goes a long way, I spent $140 in here and she didn't make a great lasting impression on me Final Thought: I would patron this establishment again but she wouldn't be my first choice
