Such professionals. I wish my car was not a lemon, I got it at an auction it so pretty but old and these guys could have ripped me off and made a bunch of money with me putting good money into a car that is on the way out and would require way too much work. They were honest and did not take advantage of me and just try to make as much money as possible. Instead they gave me the most detailed report on my car and very patiently listened to my many questions and were really good at explaining car stuff to a non car person. Anyway I highly recommend because this is the kind of place that you never hear about. A really good shop with really professional and polite staff. I am giving them only 4 stars because they are not magic and I did not have them do the work needed because it's not worth it but I only knew that because they were truthful. I brought my 2016 VW Golf R to Lusti Motors for scheduled maintenance, a brake fluid flush, and a brake pad inspection. While the brake fluid service itself was reasonably priced, the overall experience left me extremely disappointed. I was surprised to be charged $85 simply to inspect brake pads. Measuring pad thickness on this vehicle takes about a minute and does not require wheel removal. I have never been charged for a brake inspection at any other shop. The following day, a different shop performed an alignment and informed me--at no charge--that my rear pads were low. I agreed to the inspection fee because I assumed pricing for any recommended repairs would be fair. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I was quoted $746 for brakes using OEM‑equivalent parts (Zimmermann rotors and Akebono ceramic pads). I had the same parts installed at another German‑specialty shop for $563 a few days later. I was also recommended BG Direct Injection System Cleaning for $448. After getting a second opinion, I was quoted $200 elsewhere and advised that this service is generally not recommended for a higher‑mileage vehicle like mine (105k miles) unless intake valves have recently been cleaned. When I asked about the price difference, I was told Lusti uses two cans of cleaner, which still did not justify the cost based on retail pricing and industry norms. Additionally, when I presented my military ID at checkout, the brake inspection fee unexpectedly increased from $85 to $95, which was never explained. The scheduled visit took over 2 1/2 hours for work that typically takes under an hour. Had I known the inspection fee structure and pricing in advance, I would have chosen a different shop and saved both time and money. I strongly recommend doing your own research on any services they recommend and getting second opinions on pricing, as my experience raised serious concerns about both necessity and cost. I have been taking my GLB 250 2020 here Everything was great. I had a light on for B5. So I said is spark plug, air filter included and brake fluid included. I was quoted for 1357. So I took my car Oct 29 2025. Everything done. However, I saw my last history Feb 2025. That they did my engine filter already and my brake fluid exchange. So I asked why did you guys do it again if it was in the service history already. Ryan offered for 242 credit which I said ok but I thought about it on why am I getting only for air filter? I asked for the 242 refund and he said he cant do that and he is just being nice. I asked for a refund because I have to rethink if I still want to take it back. I told him Im not quite sure now if my filter and brake fluid is really replaced again if it was just replaced last Feb 2025. I was told because l requested it but he said his technician should have seen it( air filter). I requested it because I thought it was needed and my thinking they have my service history. Should I still trust this shop?I also felt very insulted when Ryan used a pancake mix analogy like I cant understand what he will say. I asked him if they dont explain to the customer or even check service history. He also claimed I drove the far for more than 8k but it was only 7009 miles from Feb 2025 to Oct 29. I expressed all these concern because I have no basis if they really changed it or not because for sure those service is not warranted if they check the car history. read more

I've had a check engine light on for over a month. The dealer gave me a $10,000 laundry list of items "that needed fixing" for a car not even worth that much. I spoke with 3 other mechanics (over the phone) all who ran my VIN and read what The dealer said and all 3 cowardly said they can't do the job. The job was a turbo replacement. The dealer said my turbo needed to be replaced and my timing chain needed to be replaced. Massive job, I understand that. But I was upset that NO ONE was even willing to LOOK at it and confirm or deny what the dealer (stealer) said. Finalllllllyyyyy I came to Lusti. No appointment, just walked in. They took my car, ran diagnostics for $139 (which would later be waived). They had my car for half the day before they called me with an update and asking for permission to proceed. I got my car back the following day AND MY TURBO DID NOT NEED REPLACING! Such a financial relief. They fixed two things associated with my intake and turbo and said that was what was causing the sensors and lights to go on. I have owned German cars for over 15 years and counting and have been through multiple repair shops around the San Diego and Los Angeles area I have to tell you this place may look a little old but the customer service is Premier mainly due to a gentleman named Ryan Lawrence that is the local service writer. One of the more knowledgeable technicians and service writers I've met. Which has now made me a lifelong customer. I took my BMW three series in to have a radiator replaced not only did they do a full-blown inspection but they found areas that had major defected and deteriorated hoses throughout the cooling system. He had the parts the same day and if he couldn't get them that day the next morning they were in hand and installed on the car. This Has to be one of the better price repair shops that I've been to. Let me start by saying that Ryan is most likely the best automotive receptionist you're going to meet. He is an attentive listener, and performs his job with extreme professionalism. I've never met a shop service attendant that has worked harder for one of my projects as he did. I took my '17 Subaru STI here for a boat load of work that I needed accomplished same day as I was taking it home out-of-town the next day. Ryan has a connect on parts where he can receive them extremely fast. He also was able to locate exactly what I needed with accuracy. Originally, I called about bringing the car in for a bad hub bearing which he had delivered for the next day (day of repairs). His tech was able to find that morning my problem wasn't a bearing, but loose lug nuts. Ryan did not pressure me into changing that hub bearing, he simply suggested options to get the car done and allowed me to make a decision which he provided exceptional support to achieve. He also went above their typical calls of duty by changing my suspension to a coil over system I brought in, agreed to install my strut braces and axle nuts. All of which weren't typical lines of work for this shop. Ryan even promised to get the job done even if he needed more techs on it. He really fought to get my project completed. The technicians experience was also a value of this place. He knew almost right away it wasn't an issue with the bearing. He guaranteed the additional work could get done and he delivered ahead of time! Keep in mind, the value of their work was also fair and I wouldn't have wanted to spend this money anywhere else after seeing the work they accomplished today. I was so happy to see them pull my car in right away, get it diagnosed, and to have Ryan checking in with me every time they ran into a road block to make sure I decided and what to do with the car next. He even waived some charges in favor of the choices I was making which warmed my heart and gave me assurance my car and project were in good hands. Everything the Yelp reviews have said about this place are on point and you will be treated above those averages even if your challenges get more difficult. As a military service member, I am always about serving the community and making things better for Americans. Ryan and Lusti motors also provide this level of service. They provide a 36mo / 12k mi warranty on their work which also left me with confidence that this shop has your car in their best interest. I had a volvo a few years ago. I took it to them. They charged a lot of money. They did a bad job on the brakes. I took it to them again. They recommended changing the rotors and the brakes. since I had a 3 year warranty on the previous job, I told them to go a head with changing the rotors and the breaks. They wanted to charge me again for the same job. I told them that I had the warranty from the previous job. Without my authorization, they had turned the rotors instead of changing it, pulling a fast one on me. I had to contact the owner. finally they took care of it after lots of headache. From check-in to pick-up, I am always kept informed of the status of my service or repair. My last visit was for four miscellaneous items I wanted to be checked. Because some of the parts had to be ordered, I was given a delivery date and cost estimate - both came in under. A day early for completion because the parts arrived earlier and a lower cost than estimated. Further, I like the fact that the shop is AAA certified and that they provide free loan vehicles to customers. I have to say that my experience with Lusti motors was above and beyond! My BMW X3 had some fluids leaking and my warranty was set to expire. I brought in the X3 for the diagnosis as well as end of warranty inspection. Service Advisor Ryan Lawrence was beyond awesome, our communications was constant and his knowledge as well as practice navigated the car and myself through the situation with excellent service, performance, and efficiency. Ryan had the team of mechanics conduct a thorough inspection of the X3. The research found that my turbo was leaking oil and the bushings were worn out. That was a phenomenal find as a turbo leaking oil is bad news. Ryan's years of experience navigated through the warranty companies representative and was able to successfully have all the major parts covered! I have visited several BMW independent shops and by far this is the place to bring your car in for work. Most shops conduct inspections, few take the time and effort in finding the root issues and solutions. This is not a shop that will place a band aid on your car problem. I have had several major projects/repairs at Lusti Motors. I have a 46 year old classic Mercedes. I have spent a great deal of time and money rebuilding this car beginning ten years ago. Lusti installed a new air conditioning system about two years ago- a long job, very detailed. Another part which malfunctioned (which was not replaced at the time) was the fan switch. On this car it was a tedious job. Dale was the mechanic (Hope that's right- I'm relying on memory). The job was several months ago. He did a great job with the installation. I have had good luck at Lusti for many years. This has changed rapidly for the worse. I took my S-430 in to have the automatic trunk opening failure diagnosed and hopefully fixed. After the initial diagnostic charge of $125 (which was not disclosed to me even though the paper work forged my acceptance signature), Ryan told me that he needed me to authorize another charge of $275 to diagnose the problem. I said NO! I subsequently took the vehicle down the street to MBS Automotive who diagnosed the problem for $99 (refundable if no diagnosis and applicable to subsequent work) and subsequently fixed it for reasonable parts and labor costs. I think the problem with Lusti is the fact that they lost a couple of technicians due to Covid, and they are trying to make up for lost dollars in questionable ways. read more

I can't say enough great things about Lusti Motors! I brought my Infiniti Q60 in that had a couple of issues and they were able to diagnose and give me an honest answer on how I should proceed. They could've charged me for work that I may not have needed but instead they were totally honest with me, fixed up my car and told me to come back if the problems continued. Summary: If you have a VW/Audi go elsewhere. Check my other reviews for a better place in San Diego. 2 stars because they held the appointment time and provided an estimate. I made an appointment to make sure my 2004 VW Touareg V8 will pass SMOG. The car just passed Oregon OBD2 emissions test in September. The service writer explained their diagnostic process and the associated cost. They sounded like they knew what they were talking about so I gave it a shot. I was charged $120 to diagnose the check engine light. I also provided a full Vagcom scan and a specific set of info about what my research showed needed to be completed. Their estimate was $3,845.41. A/C also not working, the compressor is cracked which I told them before dropping the car off. Their answer? $2,327.91 because the "pulley is not turning". Duh. It has a fail safe where it will not activate the compressor when the freon is low. No further detail on what would be done, but they gave me a discount on the diagnostic ($60) I took the car to another shop, they charged $105 to diagnose and fix the two minor vacuum leaks they found. Guess what? I passed SMOG no problem, check my photo. read more

So... I live very close to this place and walk by many times. They were beautiful cars in the front showroom and the place always looks immaculately clean. I never thought that my MINI and I would be able to handle repair costs here. WRONG! on all accounts. FIRST: I felt so welcomed and there was not a moment of intimidation or any feeling of unfriendliness. Ryan, Service manger immediately welcomed me and got to working on my service report. SECOND: They send you a diagnosis with illustrations and explanations that I could understand. THIRD: They promised and delivered on time, Right???
