The shop is actually quite large with tons of fun and weird stuff. Signs, clothing and all types of collectibles. Outside, the entire surrounding area and lot is filled with something of an Upper Michigan Museum. One that totally makes fun of the "Yopper" life style. (A Yooper is someone that lives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan). I'll admit, some displays were kind of dumb and outdated, others I didn't even get...but I have to say it was far different than any gift shop I've ever been to. If you're in the U. P. (for whatever reason) and you have nothing to do, stop in. It's free, fun, and you probably have to pee anyway.

I entered the store and the employee was at the cash register area. About 5 mins in shopping a man abruptly entered speaking loudly and reminiscing about the last nights drinking and questioned the young lady at the cash register about why she didn't call him and talking about how she missed out on a good time etc. Then the employee and the obnoxious man embraced. I found it completely uncomfortable and inappropriate. This has been one of my favorite places in the past. Unfortunately, this business lost over $200 today because of this. I won't be back.

To move merchandise there are also free items, and my teenage daughter found some really nice sweaters in that category; she was proud that her entire total purchase was $5. Please note that some of the craft options are as little as $15, and some are over $100. We set a budget before we arrive and there are many of the less expensive items from which to choose. The staff is exceptionally kind to children and are helpful in answering questions. There's about a one week lag time between making a creation and having it ready for pickup. I saw a cool sweatshirt that I liked but it was $100+. That's just not an amount I'm willing to spend since I definitely don't need another sweatshirt. There are three levels in the store and they have lots of clothing, shoes, and some accessories like purses/bags/hats. I was sort of hoping for more souvenir type items like stickers and things with Marquette or U.P. on them, but that's ok, since we got them elsewhere before leaving town. Long-term relationship with an outstanding bookstore I first…read morevisited Snowbound Books in 2024 when a local, with whom I went to law school, recommended the shop. I'm in D.C., my colleague is in Grand Rapids, and mutual friends have a lovely place in the U.P. We stopped and shopped, then I went back to D.C. with a suitcase full of books. I was hooked . . . from this point forward this was my go-to bookstore. I ordered a Christmas-list full of books, and the crew at Snowbound responded with class. Since that visit, I've made a point to support this, my new local bookstore, throughout the year, both with hardcovers and audiobooks. Snowbound linked up its business venture with the audiobook marketer Libro.fm, which collaborates with local bookstores to offer a seamless alternatives for audiobooks, doing an end-run around platforms that historically have minimized or shut out local bookstores. Libro.fm shares its profits with these local bookstores, and offers great deals with titles in their massive library. Recently, I researched the Snowbound catalog and received 14 books (see the photo). During the same period I purchased, at retail in some cases and with a deep discount in other cases, about 15 audiobooks, which I devoured upon arrival. This may reflect idealistic tendencies, but I would much rather support local booksellers, and audiobook platforms that share their profits with booksellers. Libro.fm meets this requirement for the audiobooks, and Snowbound meets it for new hardcovers. We're lucky to have both, as alternative to platforms that lack any connection with the local markets being served.
