In any case, it's pretty unsettling, especially from a K-8 school. This isn't boilerplate language -- many of the bullet points feel disturbingly specific. Wesley made headlines a few years ago when they arranged for their staff to cut the line and get Covid vaccines in 2021 before they were eligible. Prospective parents might want to think twice about this school.

Yesterday, my husband and I were lucky enough to attend their prospective parent open house and to say I was impressed would be an understatement. The morning began by having us sit in on their twice weekly school assembly (called "Community"). It hit to the heart of what it means to be in a community! It was inspiring. Completely led by the students themselves, yesterday's assembly was entirely run by the second graders! What a joy! It really set the stage for what proved to be a very enjoyable morning. Everyone we met made us feel instantly at home...the staff, the parents, the security team who helped us find a parking spot and especially the two 6th graders who gave my husband and I our own special "VIP" tour! Their engagement and passion for sharing their experiences truly warmed our hearts. We appreciated hearing from so many staff members who are clearly committed to providing the most nurturing educational experience for the students. We know the students at Wesley are in very capable hands.

You feel it the minute you walk on campus. The principal sets such a positive tone, and it trickles down through every part of the school. Teachers and staff know every child by name, and that kind of connection really sets Laurel Hall apart. Class sizes are small, which means our child gets personalized attention and are really seen not just another face in the crowd. It offers that classic, traditional school experience you might expect in a small town, but it's right here in the heart of the Valley. Yes, it's a private school and tuition isn't nothing- but compared to others in LA, it's very reasonable for what you get. We also weren't sure how we'd feel about the church affiliation going in, but honestly, it's light and sweet. Think Christmas songs and mostly the focus on kindness and compassion (with a little Jesus sprinkled in). Nothing heavy-handed at all. We feel so lucky to have found Laurel Hall. Our kids are thriving, and we genuinely love being part of this school community.

Mrs. Allagh should have been the first teacher to go and maybe this school would be running longer. The worst "teacher" (not sure if she's even qualified highly doubt it) and human I have had the displeasure of being around. I cannot fathom how she got hired. Truly an awful person not just to the kids but parents as well! This school deserves what's coming to it and I do not feel bad for the teachers or principal. I never interacted with other staff but they seemed bearable. If you enroll your child in a school and see "Mrs. Allagh" as their teacher RUN and find another school. Any place willing to hire someone like that is not a place you want to be involved in. I changed my child's school 3 months ago and is flying through the roof. Doing so much better! Best decision I have ever made. I hope their staff sees this since they never felt the need to contact me back after multiple attempts of me trying to reach out to them. I don't want to categorize all the staff into the few negligent and disgusting ones I have witnessed within the school so I will leave it at that. AVOID THE PRINCIPAL AND MRS. ALLAGH AT ALL COSTS!

I don't understand why all the bad, negative reviews?…read more I personally don't have any children attending this school, but one of my neighbors does. Both of her twins go to this Middle school and are about to graduate next year with honors. The exterior of the school is very ancient and historic looking. It has been around for over 80 years. There are plenty of parking spaces on the street and teachers along with administration have their own parking lot. Guests can also park there. I have attended a graduation here recently at Walter Reed, and was very impressed with the graduation. I also attended to three of their programs. The choir and the dance department needs improvement. Kids were out of tune and didn't have much talent in their dance moves nor in their vocals. I also have a friend whose son goes here. Their hallways are very wide, and the auditorium can easily fit like 75 to 80 people. They have bungalows to the side of the school. I have heard a lot of bad and good stories about this school. Students having sex in the bathrooms, using drugs. But then which school doesn't at their age?? Yes, the supervision by the teachers and administration along with their principal should be much tighter and strict. They have a lot of different programs, bulletins posted in their hallways. They also offer after school programs. When I was there, one of the bulletins stated that they needed a lot of school supplies. I packed a nice bag, full of supplies and donated them to this school with a note. Next morning the principal called and thanked me for it. I was touched by the gesture. Every story has 2 sides to it, and the cold hard truth. That's the 3rd side. Got up to use the restroom during the performance, and it was spotless clean along with their campus. Both my neighbor and my friend are very content/satisfied with this school and w/out any hesitation told me to tell everyone that it is a very good school. In every way. Just recently, another friend that I have that lives nearby, (so do I actually); just enrolled her granddaughter. So people, please stop talking about a school that you are not too familiar with. The reason for my 4 stars is because of their dance and choir department.. Will post few photos soon. Keep an eye on it.

It often felt like the teachers had little say and were expected to simply follow direction from the office, even when concerns were raised. What concerned me most was the lack of communication surrounding emergency situations. There was little to no follow-up with parents, and it felt like the school tried to minimize or quietly move past serious incidents instead of being transparent. Because of those experiences, I personally would not feel comfortable bringing my child back here.

Looking back, my only regret is that we didn't find the school sooner. Today, I'm the proud parent of two Oakwood alumni, one attending the University of Southern California and the other at the University of Redlands, as well as an incoming seventh grader. Watching our older children leave Oakwood so well prepared for college has given us tremendous confidence in the education they received. What always stood out to me was that Oakwood never asked our kids to choose between academics, athletics, or the arts. They were challenged in the classroom while also having every opportunity to pursue the things they loved. Both of our older children played varsity sports throughout high school, baseball, soccer, and softball, while also thriving academically. Perhaps the best example of Oakwood's philosophy is our daughter, who is now pursuing degrees in both Neuroscience and Cinematic Arts at USC. To me, that's exactly what an Oakwood education represents: students who are encouraged to explore multiple passions rather than being placed into a single lane. Beyond the academics, Oakwood is a community that genuinely knows and cares about its students. Our children were supported, challenged, and encouraged to become confident, curious young adults. If you're looking for a school that prepares students not only for college but for life, I can't recommend Oakwood highly enough.
