Close to 200 miles it 'tis, and a fine hike that's famed world wide. Don't believe me? I quaffed a couple of fine English pints here this evening with people from Australia, France and the U.S. (myself included). We're all starting the hike tomorrow. But I digress. A fine pub area, suitable selection of fine English ales and a few favorites like Guinness and Stella Artois on tap. Friendly bartender, and the food... wow. Had the steak and ale pie with a vegetable puree (turnips?) and cabbage that was heavenly. And I think it's no coincidence that this is the pub everyone seeks out before they start the hike because as you know, getting this much exercise, the body needs hydration! Yea, that's what it is... hydration. We're preparing our bodies (and minds) for the task at hand. Manor House, keep the taps flowing. I may be back to do this walk again next year and I can't think of a finer way for it to start than with a pint or two and some good company in your pub. Well done, well done.

The Inn is quaint, charming, and comfortable and the staff are kind, welcoming and accommodating! We arrived and were immediately happy with the safe and private parking accommodations. We actually arrived very late that evening, and called ahead, they waited up for us and were so kind upon arrival. The Hotel is SO charming, cute and cozy. The aesthetic is charming English cottage, while also being updated and feeling clean. The hotel rooms themselves are more modern (though unique) to give you all of the comforts of home - my fave being the towel warmer. Our room was wonderfully clean (and I'm a stickler on cleanliness!) and the bed was so comfortable, especially after a long drive. It was such a comfortable and clean place to lay our heads for the evening. The hotel has a restaurant that I would also recommend. Breakfast was incredible - one of the first hotel breakfasts where I haven't had to douse in pepper haha. Well seasoned and well cooked, high quality ingredients. Jonathan is a wonderful chef. My husband said the hollandaise was one of the best he's ever had. I'd recommend stopping by for sure, and don't miss breakfast! I had the Steak and Ale pie and it was just delicious. The mashed potatoes were perfect and the vegetable medley was just what I needed after all the fried food I had been having on the trip. I tried my friend's lamb and it was to die for. The only complaint I heard was about the chutney for the vegan curry. Save room for dessert. The sticky toffee pudding was one of the best desserts I've ever had; I'll be thinking about it for a long time.

If you're working like we were, note that the internet is indeed fast enough for a developer who runs team meetings to lead all their meetings! I had a spa session with massage and facial and it was excellent! I swam every day and used the sauna facilities. The locker room and pool area was kept very clean and dry. The lady attendant was fastidious in keeping the changing room dry and clean. There was a bit of an incident where one of my favorite vintage pieces I sent off to laundry was not returned to us when they dropped off our clean clothes. I had actually been at the entrance to the hotel when the cleaner dropped it off and I verbally acknowledged to her that I could see my laundry because of my vintage piece and she stated they'd be delivered to my room shortly. Front staff sent back an empty hanger amongst our other clean clothes and had lost it. We found it on the floor amongst boxes behind the reception desk. They returned my item, and apologized personally. Not a big deal and glad it was resolved.

The downside of this hotel is the aggressive pricing for wedding packages, meaning that there are many wedding parties going on. I counted six in two days, which brings a lot of drunkards to the hotel, which does not help if you're seeking a quite place to relax. Will I ever get back to this hotel, no.

There is ample parking outside and the hotel is next to the Solway Gate which is fantastic. This is an excellent priced hotel where kids stay free. The only downside is the hotel does not offer air-conditioning.

My room had a wet room off the bedroom, which comfortably fitted the double bed and wardrobe and that was about it, just as you expect in such an old building. it was very comfortable. There was an a la carte menu available and an early-bird menu of two courses for £9.95. This consisted of half a dozen starters and 7 main courses and eight sweets. I had chicken breast in pepper sauce on mash with 'roasted medeterranian vegetables' followed by chocolate brownie cheesecake. I was rather freaked out when, waking at 2am, wanting a cigarette, I left my room to find the whole place in darkness.The next day I found out that I could have set the burglar alarm off by going out the front door to have a fag and that I should have waited until this morning. Breakfast was available between 7am and 9am. This consisted of the normal cafetier of coffee or pot of tea, cereal (8 types in mini-packs) orange juice, bowl of chopped melon. There was the option of a Full English or a 'Light Bite' of five options including smoked salmon and scrambled egg, which was tastey, but a bit rich (with the amount of cream in it) at breakfast. The garden is a lovely place to sit. Small birds seemed to be nesting all over the place.

My family stayed here for 3 nights and loved every minute of it. The hotel took care of our every need. We arrived late at night to check in and the chef offered to still stay up to cook us dinner, and it was amazing! Beat whiskey and Best Veggie Haggis I had on the entire trip! The rooms were beautiful and the location was perfect. Thank you for the free umbrellas, the free wifi, and letting us barrow some outlet converters. We love and appreciate all you have done for our family during our stay. We hope to be back again! Xx
