I'm new to Saugerties and was in desperate need to find a hair dresser I could trust. My daughter recommended Lux, so I took my chances and booked a cut with Madison. I was able to get in the next day! (If only it was this easy to get into a new doctor!) I felt very comfortable as soon as I entered the salon. I was greeted promptly and within a minute I was in the chair. Madison was so professional. She really took her time and listened to me try to describe how I wanted my crazy curly hair cut. When you've had the same person cut your hair for 30 years, it's hard to "break in" a new stylist. Madison really took her time to give me the cut I wanted. Many thanks for making me feel welcome. Customer service really lacking. First, i found it hard to even get a call through to make an appointment. Why doesn't anyone pick up? If you're busy just ask for me to hold. As a new customer i made an appointment without requesting a specific stylist, my first mistake. I then get a call the day before the appt from the stylist, asking if i want to move up my appointment because she had an opening. I cant because I work during the day. Then I get a call the day of, asking if i wanted to reschedule for the following day at a later time because her other appointments cleared up. At this point this stylist must not care about working or must be so bad that no one makes appointments. Why am I inconveniencing myself or being asked to change my schedule to suit the stylist, I don't even have an established relationship. Poor business. So I call back and make an appointment specifically with one of the experienced hair stylist hoping for someone more professional (I am willing to pay to have an experienced hair stylist, that's why I thought I was going to Lux). I show up the day of my appointment and its not even the person I requested. I guess it was a nice day and no one wanted to work again. The only redeeming thing, was the nice young lady who did cut my hair and she did a good job. Who's running this place? Are they checked out? I asked around after and it seems this is a trend, not a rare occurrence. read more

I worked with Lux Hair Studio for hair and makeup for my wedding and they are the best of the best. I wanted a natural look for the wedding and they worked with me from day one to ensure I felt heard and did a gorgeous job. Jewels and Ancolie made all of us feel so comfortable and beautiful. Several of my bridesmaids and mom barely wear any makeup and they were worried about how getting professional makeup would look, but the Lux team listened empathetically and created natural looks that just enhanced their natural beauty and made them feel really comfortable. This place is the worst salon experience I have ever had. I paid $55 for a hair cut and no blow dry hair. Blow Dry hair is included in my price. Plus when your hair is dry, stylists are able to see where changes need to be made. The stylist is not a professional and uncomfortable experience. Not worthy! read more

I went several times to this place. Unhappy but i kept going cause we were in a process of correcting color. After 3 expensive sessions i still wasnt were i wanted to be. None of which made sense because i had seen worse on tiktok get corrected in one sesssion. Hairdressers attitude was like i was a burden to her. Given the chance to rate this salon 3 years ago I would have easily given it 5 stars, in a heartbeat. It's cute, has a very sweet receptionist/manager, and has upbeat staff that USUALLY do an exceptional job. However, my latest experience has been anything but 5 star worthy. I had an appointment with my usual hair stylist scheduled for this past Saturday. Some unfortunate events occurred to said stylist and she will be out of work for the next few weeks. I received a call from the receptionist informing me of this and asking what I would like to do about my upcoming appointment. I told her I was super skeptical of anyone but my go-to girl but would give someone else a try in order to keep my standing appointment. She scheduled me with another hair stylist and I was under the assumption that the new stylist would be of the same caliber as my previous. Boy was I wrong. Day of appointment I'm assigned the new stylist, she looked very young but I was trying to remain confident in the salons decision to place me with her. I have very dark brown hair naturally that has a ton of red undertones to it and is in general very warm looking. I told the new stylist, explicitly, that I wanted to keep the warm tones, the red, and just spruce up the color and make it look healthier, shinier, a tiny bit darker brown. I stressed how important it was to not be black, to not have cool tones. She told me she would keep the existing color but make it slightly darker. I walked out of the salon, 2.5 hours later, down $150, with jet black hair with ends that feel and look like straw (not something that I've ever experienced before.) I hoped it would grow on me or lighten up in sunlight. No and no. I now have goth black hair. It's anything but warm and my red is completely gone. I called the salon two days later, as they are closed on Sunday and spoke with a receptionist who fielded my call to the manager who would be in on Tuesday. Upon speaking with the manager (who is a complete sweetheart, by the way) she informed me of their policy-if I wanted it fixed, free of charge, I would have to see the same person. I told her I was uncomfortable with that due to my botched first go around, at which time she informed me that the stylist she had placed me with was a JUNIOR STYLIST. I made it clear that I would never book with a junior stylist had I known this originally and that I felt as though I should have been placed with a stylist at the same experience level as my original booking. I was pretty upset but tried to remain cool. The best she could offer me was the speak with the owner or come in for a color correction and re-dye that I would be required to pay additionally for. I asked her to please speak with the owner. I received a timely call from her again informing me that she spoke with the owner and the junior stylist that did my hair and they agreed that even if someone else had done my hair, it would have come out jet black due to the porous-ness of my hair. I called their bluff on that one because I've been getting my hair dyed for over 15 years and have NEVER had a similar experience. They recommended that I wash the color out with dawn dish detergent and be satisfied with that or come in and spend an extra $150+ on getting it fixed by someone else. I feel as though I wasted money and a good chunk of a Saturday afternoon on a dye job that I am unhappy with and that I have to undo myself. I am very unhappy with their policy and feel as though, due to extenuating circumstances regarding my original stylist and the fact that I was not informed that my new stylist was a junior stylist prior to confirming a booking with her, that I should either be reimbursed or able to see another stylist to fix my hair, free of charge. Needless to say, I will not be returning to Lux and I would not recommend them to anyone looking for reputable service. 2 stars go to their amazing and sweet manager who, even though couldn't really help, tried her best! read more

My first time using this salon and it was a really pleasant experience. Sarah was my stylist. Skilled, intuitive, and personable. She did a great job with both color and cut. In selecting a new salon, I priced a few. There was a $500 option elsewhere and I guess that would be a five star experience. Here at Lux, color and cut were $120 using Aveda products. Great value. After years of being part of the classic Gray Hair club, I was ready for a change. Lux was recommended by a dear friend who always had a fabulous hair cut. I tried to get a certain stylist, she was out on maternity leave & spoke endlessly to the manager, Barbara to help me find that perfect stylist. After way too much of her patient time I got Sara P. First try at lowlights blending in w/ silver was just not perfect. I truly wanted a huge change. Sara listened carefully, scheduled another appt. to "fix" the color, consulted w/ another specialist Brian ( who is amazing colorist ) & I had a total transformation. Every single person who knows me is completely bowled over by the difference. But MOST importantly, each person at the Salon listened to me, responded carefully, including the manager who was terrific. I HIGHLY recommend Sara P and Lux and will never go anywhere else. I booked Lux Hair Studio for my sister's wedding party. The entire experience was great. Barbara accommodated our date, time and party size. We brought champagne to celebrate and were provided a table and glasses to spread out. We were a party of 5 for hair and makeup and even added an extra person for makeup who was nicely accommodated. I can't say enough for the talented staff. I can see why this place is booked year round. I will certainly tell anyone to try the services here and hope to have a reason to come back when I visit the area. read more

Sara R. saved my over-highlighted, fried hair with judicious low-lights, a skillful trim, and a miraculous conditioning treatment! She even finished off the blow-dry with a curling iron to give me exactly what I wanted. The results were spectacular and easily on-par with any NYC salon (yes, I know from experience).
