The lien encumbered our property for three years. The work itself was a complete failure. The retaining wall collapsed. The owner never returned to repair defects or clean up after being paid in full. We had to hire private labor and purchase materials ourselves to address the damage. After an 16-18 month investigation, the California State License Board (CSLB) found 17 violations against this contractor's license, including 11 misdemeanor charges. He was fined $6,000. The investment property was listed for sale and could not sell due to the construction defects and the lien on title. We ultimately lost the property. All of this is documented public record.
