Among the things that I came in looking for was activated charcoal and admittedly I was a bit disappointed that the store did not carry it. It was explained to me by the sales assistant that the local supplier does not have this particular item in their inventory but they were working on locating it elsewhere. Despite not being able to get activated charcoal, I was truly impressed with the selection of products. The Root Cellar must have the best selection of Weleda products outside of Switzerland! And a huge assortment of all-natural toothpaste and personal hygiene products and lotions specifically designed for babies. Also, in the back of the store there is an impressively large selection of non-perishable grocery items. I walked out of the store with a bunch of things and wishing that there was a Root Cellar in Montreal.

We've shopped here thrice in recent years including a few weeks ago and have always found very…read moreattractive, well-made woolen products. This year we purchased a pair of hand-made wool sweaters, both really handsome in two different styles. The prices were about $200 Canadian, which we don't believe to be overly expensive given their high quality and durability (sweaters we purchased previously have held up well and still look almost like new). The shop also carries a lot of knitting skeins, which do appear on the pricey side, but we're told that similar supplies simply aren't in big supply anywhere on the island. We've chatted with the owner and found her delightful and knowledgeable about the origins of the wool in the shop. They also carry a number of other items including Scottish/Irish kilts, hats, shawls, capes, mittens, slippers and blankets. The shop seems to us a wonderful showcase for local artisans and knitters, and we look forward to many more return visits and sweater purchases.

The choices were good and they had some additional sale on a cup at a discount because I bought over a certain amount, I didn't need another cup, but nice for someone to throw in a discount. The girl who worked that day was friendly, but didn't laugh at my dad jokes...oh well. A nice place to pick up stuff while in PEI.

And if you are looking to make your own, there are lots of props to choose from. Hats, wigs, funny shoes, clown noses, makeup. It goes on and on with a wide selection of used clothes to round things out. The best part is that it's all so inexpensive. I'm frugal when it comes to spending money on these once-a-year getups and shop around to save $$$. These prices are some of the least expensive I've seen. There are some full-fledged new costumes to buy as well but with the selection of used costumes and accessories, it's more fun to make your own.
