Our tour guide Jenna was amazing. You might think you won't get enough samples to account for the price of the tour but you definitely will. Chocolate, fruit, tea and more! And you can always ask for seconds if you want. So much knowledge about the chocolate making process and about the foliage and trees on the island. Seeing the farm was amazing. The honey tasted great. And the chocolate eating experience was wonderful. Worth every dollar we spent to go!
Looking for a unique activity near Kapa'a, we found the Bee & Honey tour at Lydgate Farms. The tour includes an introduction to the process of beekeeping, a tour of the apiary, and a honey tasting - fresh out of the hive! Before visiting the hives, you are outfitted with a full beekeeping suit and veil. I highly recommend drinking lots of water beforehand and bringing a water bottle, as the suits get warm quickly. For the tasting, you will try the farm's 4 types of honey, and even eat some fresh honeycomb. Roni and McKenna were knowledgeable guides who answered our group's many questions about bees and the honey collecting process. After this tour, I would definitely love to visit again for the chocolate tour!
We did both the chocolate tour and the honey bee experience. Both were wonderful experiences. For the former the chocolate education , tour and tastings were educational and really demonstrated what good chocolate both tastes like and how it's derived. LF has award winning chocolates and it's clear why. The honey bee experience was also incredible. Being taught about how bees work as a community to make honey and the ways we as humans have been able to work within this system. It was neat how we suited up for the experience, and learned so much from the hosts Alexa and Jessica. Great experience.
If you are a chocolate lover, this tour is absolutely worth adding to your Kauai itinerary. My wife and I discovered Lydgate Farms while planning our honeymoon and exploring Kauai on Google Maps. It was not originally part of our plans, but as soon as we found it, we knew we had to book it, and we are so glad we did. Nestled in the hills of Kauai, the farm feels peaceful, secluded, and incredibly beautiful. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome. Our tour guide, Mason, was fantastic. He was funny, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about both the farm and the chocolate making process. He shared interesting facts throughout the tour and kept the experience engaging from start to finish. As people who genuinely love chocolate, we found it fascinating to learn how chocolate is made, from the cacao tree all the way to the finished product. Not only was the tour educational, but it also gave us a greater appreciation for the amount of work and care that goes into every piece of chocolate. If you enjoy chocolate, local agriculture, or simply want a unique experience while visiting Kauai, I would highly recommend making time for Lydgate Farms.
Absolutely amazing tour. Ours lasted a little over three hours and included chocolate, fruit, honey, and macadamia nut tastings. Very generous servings of all. Our guide Jenna was wonderful and very knowledgeable about the farm and chocolate in general. The farm used to be a botanical garden so we learned many things about native/invasive Hawaiian plants in addition to the cacao trees. Super cool to see vanilla plants, too!! Very expensive products in the gift shop, but the quality of all of them is extremely high.
Was fortunate enough to try the chocolate tasting at the farm back in June 2024. After coming back, we recommended to family who were going to Kauai in August 2024. They said the tasting was moved from the farm to tasting room set up in Kapaa so that's where they went. If the tasting room offers the same level of tasting as they did at the farm, definitely go try it out in Kapaa! So generous to sample many different kinds of chocolates from bars to the mac nuts, and some other competitor chocolates which opens your eyes to how good Lydgate farms chocolates are, lol. This farm was tricky to find, as the phone lost connection when getting near the area. Luckily having an idea of where road was going before connection got lost helped find the right place. I can see why they moved the tasting to Kapaa, it'll be much easier for people to go tasting there, sell more chocolates, and free up the farm lots for those doing the tours. Smart business decision. These chocolates are pricey, but you get what you pay for. They can be generous with the tastings, because they know you will love it and have to buy it, lol. It's like the free samples at costco, but instead of a 10% success rate for those, it'll be a near 100% sale at Lydgate:) Wife ended up grabbing several tubes for us and family. I did have to agree, the fresh mac nuts in these chocolates was like no other I've tasted. Tasted so fresh toasted light, like no other mac nuts. Really can't beat the best chocolate covering best mac nuts... It was a privilege to have had the tasting at the farm, since it allowed us to see the chocolate trees and fruits in the parking lot. That alone was a great learning experience! It also made us have to try the cacao nectar pops they had made from the flesh of the cacao fruits. On a hot day, it was an incredible treat, so refreshing! A bit melted on my hand so I thought I better wash my hands, but surprisingly it wasn't even sticky!?! Asked the friendly host Ms. Brook if there's any sugar in these bars, she said they put just a little bit to help it be a frozen bar or something. Amazing treat! Hope they have these bars at the Kapaa tasting room too.
Absolutely one of THE best things we have ever done in our numerous visits to Kaua'i. While not really a good activity for younger kids, this 3-hour tasting tour provides so much great information about chocolate farming, production and other culinary secrets. Our FANTASTIC HOST, Mason was so engaging and passionate about chocolate and the farm, and provided a steady steam of humor, information and science. We've visited chocolate farms in Ecuador and spice farms in Tahiti and Tanzania and none of those visits could hold a candle to Lydgate. Their artisanal chocolates are so superior (in fact recently awarded one of the best in the world at the Paris "chocolate Olympics") and you get to taste lots of it during the visit while touring the property, learning about native plants and other crops like vanilla. In between you are seated in open-air, shaded "classrooms" getting schooled on chocolate. The three hours absolutely flies by-especially with Mason. While the cost seemed high when I booked, I was very well satisfied with the value when it was over-you do a lot of tasting. Afterwards the shop is open and you can purchase items direct to take home, or for $30, have it shipped home. We ended up buying $200 of chocolate we liked it so well. So spread the word, this is a MUST DO for adults and teens.
Excellent chocolate tour with a tropical fruit tasting and a wonderful tour guide, Henry! The three hours flew by and were an excellent combo of learning and eating. The grounds are beautiful, parking was easy, and the staff was friendly. Nice bathroom on property as well for guest use. We loved the honey roasted and chocolate covered macadamia nuts!
This was one of our last stops on Kauai, but it was by far one of our favorites! We had read about the tour online, and ultimately decided not to book it because of the price. Fast forward to our time on Kauai, and we were in town where they had their tasting room. We walked in, talked with the chocolate associates and were sold! We booked the tour for a few days later. Our tour guide was Jess and she was incredible! Very knowledgeable and clearly excited about the work that she does on the farm. It was really cool to see all of the fruit trees on the farm and getting to try fruit that we don't have back on the mainland. Then came the chocolate! Every bite was delicious and so fun! I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Kauai!
We were so stoked to be able to do a tour to learn about bees! Makenna and Brooke did a fantastic job teaching us all about bees but also were able to answer all of the questions the group had. They made sure the group was safe during the tour but had fun. We got some amazing honey to take home, a few samples of different types of honey, and a yummy banana and cocoa nib plate. I was sad they didn't have the cocoa nibs for sale. I think they could easily expand this program and do dinners with wine and cheese pairings. I would also love to see the tour be lengthened a bit more to accommodate more time to learn about bees!
A tour of Lydgate Farms is a must if you're visiting the island of Kauai, especially for those of you that are foodies. While the price might seem a bit steep for some, it is totally worth it. After the 3 hour tour you will have a newfound appreciation for chocolate, fruit, honey, and nature. Our tour guide Henry was fantastic. He was extremely knowledgable, charismatic, and just a great vibe. We toured the farm on foot and I would highly recommend wearing long pants and sleeves. I practically doused myself in their bug spray and was still a dessert for the mosquitoes. Throughout the walk, we were encouraged to try the fresh fruits and plants that were being pointed out by Henry. The last part of the tour ends with the tasting where we are presented with numerous samples of fruit, chocolate, and honey. I had such a memorable time here and would definitely recommend anyone pondering the idea to just book it!

Lydgate Farms features an incredible 3 hour tour that is totally worth going on. Mason was our tour guide (and he's also one of the farmers!) and he did such an incredible job of explaining the history of chocolate and all the various crops that are grown on the farm. Be prepared to taste and sample all the real chocolate, honey, and other fruits. Definitely interactive and great for the whole family! The farm itself is tucked back in the hillsides of Kapa'a, but there are plenty of signs to guide you into their location...just drive slowly and respectfully as there are other neighbors that live in the area. read more
Must visit Lydgate Farms when you're visiting Kauai. The chocolate is outstanding! They had a free chocolate tasting by the parking lot for those not taking the 3 hour chocolate tour. And quite honestly, this was enough of a treat! You got to taste the chocolate they offered and also can purchase right then and there. The mini tasting was just the perfect amount of information. My boyfriend and I did this tour and we both really enjoyed it. Very informational and gave us a much greater understanding and appreciation for craft chocolate. We tasted fruits, cocoa, and learned about different native plants. The farm was clean and staff were all friendly. read more

A must do for tourists! Three hour tour with so much agriculture info, plenty of samples of fruits and chocolates. Entertaining and informative, our guide Mason was so passionate about it farming, funny and an encyclopedic knowledge of cacao. Bought their amazing honey, cacao tea, chocolates and macadamias. DO NOT MISS THIS GEM. 100% authentic Kauai goods. Wonderful! Do not balk at the price. When you see what is done for Kauai agriculture you will be amazing and have a new appreciation for fine quality 100% Hawaiian delicacies and what goes into bringing them to the world. read more

My visit to Lydgate Farms in Kauai was nothing short of unforgettable. From start to finish, the experience was absolutely magical. The chocolate tasting was a highlight, featuring some of the finest chocolates I've ever had--my personal favorites being the Lydgate milk chocolate and the incredibly smooth and luxurious French white chocolate. The pairing of chocolate and fresh tropical fruit was something I never knew I needed in life. It was a true sensory journey, and the sugarloaf pineapple was a revelation--so sweet, juicy, and unlike any pineapple I've ever tasted. Our tour guide, Sherri, made the experience even more special. She was kind, incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and full of passion for what she does. She didn't just teach us about chocolate; she shared the heart and soul of the farm and the island itself. Thanks to her, I now understand the difference between true gourmet chocolate and candy. I'll never look at chocolate the same way again. My friends and I stopped by Lydgate Farms because we heard they make and sell some of the best chocolate on the island. It was a bit challenging driving up the road to find it, but we were ultimately successful. When we arrived, there was actually a tour in progress. We were able to sample a piece of chocolate with the tour group, which was a nice treat: The tour looked really interesting, but as I recall from my research, it was quite expensive. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, as they helped us pick out chocolate, even as they were leading a group. The chocolate here has a very strong flavor, especially the darker ones. It is noticeably high quality stuff! Even if you're just picking up some souvenirs, this is a great place to check out. read more

You have to try the Chocolate tour! So much information, so much to see and you get to taste local fruit, honey and LOTS of chocolate. Our tour guide Henry was fantastic. Very knowledgeable, friendly and gave great information and recommendations. They farm and harvest the chocolate on property. This is not candy but artisan chocolate. Like fine wine. Enjoy and savor! You can buy products after the tour to take home. read more
Since we've been to Kauai a few times, we were looking for new adventures. Decided to check out this chocolate farm and end up spending way too much money. lol But it was all good because everything we sampled was delicious. We arrived at the opening time and the worker directed us where to park for the sample gift shop. 6 people total were on our sample tour and it took about 15 minutes to taste everything from chocolate bars, macadamia nuts and some chocolate coins. You can definitely taste the difference in the high quality chocolate. Our favorite was the milk chocolate macadamia nuts and the dark chocolate bars with rum. This is a nice splurge for someone your love back home or just for yourself. read more

This tour is INCREDIBLE! I learned so much about the subtle nuances of chocolate and how the taste can change by so many different factors. The farm is beautiful and the 3 hours goes by incredibly fast. Easy stroll, lots of stops, and lots of chocolate tasting. It's great!! Our guide, Henry was so knowledgeable and friendly. Chocolate tasting with Tina shifted our expectations. Don't miss it when on Kauai! You will start with introduction to cacao fruit, then award winning 70 % cacao dark chocolate, then salty one, the milky, several more and finishing with choc coffee beans. Though it's a tasting menu, these are not microscopic pieces of chocolate, but good enough to "understand" the taste. No further pressure on buying the choc, but you cant resist the temptation to buy. Also, great option for gifts. One of a kind, 100 % Hawaiian. read more
We did not have Lydgate Chocolate Farm on our itinerary but found out that we could stop on our drive from Princeville to Lihue. The place is a little difficult to find as it is off the main road and back in a residential area. In the end I am glad we found it. We did not do the tour but learned a lot from Alexandria and Ryan. Alexandria guided us through the tasting of 8 varieties. I saw Ryan in the bean drying area were he explained the process and then we went to the fermenting area and he explained that part of the chocolate making. The chocolate is high quality and pricey but comparable to high quality store bought product. Our purchase was placed in an insulated bag with ice packs for traveling. We were advised to carry in on the plane as opposed to checking it in luggage to maintain its quality. When traveling through Kapa"a stop for the experience. These are local folks that deserve visitor support. read more

What an awesome place! We were only on Kauai for 3 days but this was the highlight of our time there. We got to the farm early, and ate our lunch in the car while we waited, though we could've eaten on a pavillion area had we chosen. Our tour guide, Jess, was super knowledgeable, super friendly and just overall had such a warm and wonderful vibe about her. You really don't do a whole lot of walking...they have pavillions set up around the farm where you stop and do the tastings, etc. We learned about how cacao is grown, tried various samples of chocolate (theirs and OPC - "other people's chocolate", ha) and also got to sample some tropical fruits I'd never tried before. Loved the rambaton and the white pineapple. Yes, they have mosquitos and I am a mosquito magnet. I would say their botannical spray worked pretty well for me. I simply reapplied at each pavillion. And the nice thing is that it smelled good and I didn't have to board an evening plane with the scent of bug spray on me. Note that they have their cacao roasted by Manoa chocolates in Honolulu and the Manoa Chocolate store in Waikiki is worth stopping by as well. I need to review them b/c they, too are incredibly helpful. But the full farm tour in Kauai?? Just do it. You won't be disappointed! read more

Great chocolate! We had our own personal chocolate tasting adventure without paying the exhortation price of a three hour tour. Our chocolate guide was great. She was very knowledgeable and provided a lot of new info to us chocolate geeks. First place I've ever had OPC (other people's chocolate) side by side with farm to wrapper treats. It's a great way to experience the difference in 100% Hawaiian chocolate and others, including Columbian and African chocolates. I am becoming a dark chocolate fan. Who knew! read more

Had a great time here and also learned a lot. Definitely recommend checking out this tour while you're in Kauai. The tour went over the entire farm, from all the fruits, flowers, plants, history of the farm and went in depth about the chocolate industry. Of course ending with the chocolate tasting which included 10 different chocolates, but also with some extra chocolate related treats too. Mason was a great tour guide! Very knowledgeable and friendly. Definitely try and schedule with him if you can! Great guy. read more

The only thing my husband wanted to do on our trip was this 3 hour chocolate tour. I briefly wondered 'What on earth would we be doing for 3 hours', and we went with an open mind. It ended up being such a great time. We tried to book for a time that was no longer available online and I gave them a call. I had to leave a message, but they responded a couple hours later. After that I was able to text message them and get much faster responses and we got in just fine! We pulled up and were immediately greeted, checked in, and advised where to park. Everyone we met was so kind and friendly. Our guide was Jake! His passion for chocolate is no joke and it exudes during his whole tour. He is so animated and funny and keeps you engaged the whole time. You take a stroll through the farm and he shows you all the different plants they grow. They do regenerative agriculture so it was really cool to see all the different types of plants: Vanilla bean, Hibiscus, papaya, rambutan, etc. Not just the cacao tree! With every stop we had a taste test from fresh cacao, dried cacao bean, fruit from the farm, and at the very end a massive taste test of 10+ different samples of chocolate. Towards the end I had to share my samples with my chocolate loving husband. They have water stations at every stop so you can quench your thirst. And much needed bug spray is at every stop. Don't skip the bug spray if mosquitos favor your blood! My friend and I left with numerous bites per exposed limb. At the very end we bought the biggest variety pack of chocolates to take home and enjoy. Thank you Jake for such a great informational and fun tour! read more

This tour was so much more than what i excepted!! Henry was our guide and he was amazing it felt like we had known him forever! He was so f***** smart I couldn't believe it. He had an answer for everything with a clear explanation we learned so much. You can tell the staff is so passionate about their mission and truly value their roles. The tour has more than just chocolate which I wasn't expecting. The grounds are gorgeous and it was a much better gift to bring back for people vs getting little mass produced trinkets from gift shops 12/10 read more
3 hour tour. My daughter loved the tour and she didn't even realize we were at it for 3 full hours. The complete staff, and our tour guide, were all awesome. Lydgate is really proud of their farm and rightfully so. The chocolate (and nectar bars) is delicious. I'm not a huge fan of dark chocolate, but I have to admit, this dark (70%) is different. It's not bitter and it has many different hints of flavors. If you get a change to take this tour, definitely add it to your list. read more

I did the full tasting and tour and it was amazing! Samuel was our guide and I couldn't have asked for anyone better! Knowledgeable, personable and fun, he was just terrific. And the tastings? Stop whatever you're doing and book this farm tour / chocolate tasting. We did five guided excursions on the island during our honeymoon and this was at the top of our list. Our guide Mason was really world class - better than guides I've had on tours anywhere in the world I've travelled. He can speak fluently through the horticulture, business and science of farming chocolate. But not just that, this tour gives you a taste of all sorts of fresh fruit also grown on premises. But more, they grow vanilla and show you peppercorns growing on the vine. It was so exciting for a foodie like me to see how this stuff grows and hear from the people who tend to it. My husband is the big chocolate fan and he loved the chocolate tasting, it was more sampling than anticipated and we actually left the farm full and skipped lunch. He was super impressed, our suitcase is now loaded up with stuff we bought to take home. And you don't need to take my word for it, these guys won the top award at an international chocolate competition last year. Don't let the drive through this Kapa'a neighborhood throw you off - at the top of the hill there is a beautiful, lush jungle-like garden and farm waiting to welcome you. read more
