I first visited Dr Mastaj 5 years ago for Invisalign retainers to fix my uneven teeth. I was on track with my retainers for the first year+ but then went overseas for an extended period of time and got very busy with other life events and I stopped using them. This was totally my own responsibility. Earlier this year I decided to go back and see if I could continue on my Invisalign retainers or to see what options were available at this point. To my surprise, Dr Mastaj was able to contact Invisalign and they were able to continue my retainers with them after a 4 year hiatus. They had to take new scans of my teeth, this time with high tech imaging, scanning and computer technology, instead of the old rubber molds that had to be poured into your mouth. Dr Mastaj has been professional, caring and personable throughout my experience with her office. She takes time to talk to you, understand your situation, and comes up with a solution that fits your needs. Through all my visits there I have seen people of all ages from young kids to senior citizens come and go with smiles on their faces. She genuinely gets to know each of her patients and that's what separates her from other Orthodontists and offices. She's up to date on current tech and can even offer Skype sessions for patients that can't reach her office or are out of town. The office is clean, comfortable and easy to get to. From the moment I stepped in for my consultation to now, all the assistants/techs and Dr. Mastaj has been so kind and welcoming and has really made my Invisalign journey so much fun and so easy. During my consultation, Dr. Mastaj was not pushy for me to commit and welcomed me to take some time to think about Invisalign since it can be a big decision, which was very much appreciated. I saw Dr. Mastaj for a Zoom whitening treatment on a friend's recommendation and had a wonderful experience. I was very nervous for the treatment, but the welcoming atmosphere quickly calmed my nerves... I informed the staff that I had a meeting after the treatment, and they were able to see me right away and get me finished ahead of schedule. Kim oversaw my whitening and modified the process to make me comfortable and help with some sensitivity issues I was having. I felt very taken care of, and to top it off, my smile is glowing!!! I couldn't believe the difference, and received so many compliments on my teeth afterwards. They also gave me bleach trays so I can maintain my white smile at home. This was by far the BEST orthodontic treatment I have EVER experienced. First of all, I have been to two dentists and three orthodontists for the pain in my jaw (I have sever TMJ) they all charged me to say "eat softer foods and avoid opening your mouth" or made me a night guard that didn't correlate with my retainer. However, as soon as I came to Dr. Mastaj she mad me an appliance called a "jig" and within 10 days my jaw has never felt better and more relaxed. Not to mention the staff at the office are extremely pleasant! I love coming in and conversing with them. This office also give back to the community which I love a lot! They're promoting literacy and have a Harry Potter themed office up until December. I went to the open house and the kids had a blast and even started reading!!!!!!!!! I cannot thank Dr. Mastaj and her wonderful staff enough. I HIGHLY recommend this office for anyone who wants good quality treatment and pleasant interactions. Dr. Mastaj and her team is superb for Invisalign! In my teens, I had braces, an expander, rubber bands, the whole deal. Nearing my late twenties, my teeth shifted, both top and bottom. I debated about Invisalign and was curious. I went in for a free consultation with Dr. Mastaj who thoroughly explained the process of Invisalign to me and determined that I was a candidate for Invisalign. I wore the trays for roughly 22 hours a day. Seriously I am so happy with my smile now and how straight my teeth are. Thank you to Dr. Mastaj and her team! I had a great experience with this office. I won a basket in a raffle that allowed me to get some free treatments (zoom whitening and express invisalign). I was happy with the results for both, and did not feel like I was treated any differently because I had a gift certificate. Often, when using a promotion, the place of business will want to rush you out and not give you the attention you would receive as a paying customer. This was not the case at all. I see Dr. Mastaj at the University of Pennsylvania dental family practice. She took over my Invisalign case about halfway through my first treatment plan. I had a lot of work done to my teeth- I was born without tooth #10 and used Invisalign to shift all of my top teeth to make room for a dental implant and crown. Dr. Mastaj did a great job on making sure that my teeth looked perfect by the end of my Invisalign treatment. I had two sets of refinements, then an additional refinement for my retainers. Throughout my treatment, Dr. Mastaj made sure my teeth were moving on track and was flexible in allowing me to switch to nighttime only at the end of my treatment. Dr. Mastaj is professional and knowledgeable, and I trust her judgement. She did an amazing job in transforming my smile. The doctor and staff are friendly. However, after 2 years in braces, we moved our daughter to a different orthodonist. Dr. Mastaj did not really take the time to explain to us/ our daughter what was going on, and there was more than one time that we had to remind her that she had said she would be doing x, y, or z at the next appointment, but then didn't. She applied a rubber band from top right to bottom left, across the front of my daughter's mouth (caging her tongue in her mouth and making it hard to speak properly). The subsequent orthodonist said, "I would never ask a child to wear a rubber band configuration that I would not wear myself." The final straw was when I noticed (again, the Dr. did not flag this, I did...) that my daughter's midline was considerably off center (we're not talking a few millimeters, here). She THEN applied the rubber band mentioned above (so... did she not notice this before?). When that hadn't done anything in 2 months, I asked the Dr. what other options were under consideration if this didn't work to put the midline back in place (it was fine when we started orthodonture!). She said, "Well, I don't think you want to start talking about surgery, do you?" SURGERY?! What? Then, my daughter asked, "What if it doesn't move?" The doctor's response was unbelievable: "No one has ever died from not having a centered midline." That was it for us, unfortunately. Their billing was also weird, making it hard to get FSA reimbursements. read more

I thought this orthodontist was horrendous. Not only was I in braces for 7 years, instead of the 18 months originally estimated, but she and her staff were rude to me, When I had a question about an appliance given to me, Dr. Mastaj's response was, 'If a 2 year old can do it, then there's something wrong with you." Her and her staff would take smoke breaks in the middle of my appointments. I also over heard rude comments about the clothes I wore. She would tell me to tell my parents that they owed her money, even though my parents had finished paying long ago, and we had to show her the payment vouchers proving so. In my opinion, she and/or her staff should have contacted my parents if there was a payment discrepancy, not to tell a teen to tell her parents that money is owed. When I had my lower braces removed, she put in a permanent retainer, which was fine, but because I did not know what it was, I asked her what it was. She didn't tell me, but just said, "Fine..I'll remove it." She took it out, THEN told me it was a permanent retainer meant to help keep my teeth aligned after ortho treatment. When it was nearing the end of my complete treatment, I asked of she was going to fix the now-uneven look of my smile, due to an impacted tooth that would not come down, but instead pulled my other teeth up with it when a chain was attached she said "It looks better like that", and refused to address my concerns thereafter. Also, while I was pregnant, but did not know it at the time, staff took an X-ray, but did not even ask if I could be pregnant, and DID NOT PUT A LEAD APRON ON ME. By the time of my next appointment, I discovered that I in fact was pregnant, and when I told them that I was, and that at the last visit they took an xray without asking if I could be, and also did not put an apron on me, Dr. Mastaj told me that it was MY responsibility to remind staff about the lead apron. She showed no concern about it whatsoever, and just said that my baby and I should be fine. After that, a staff member mentioned that she had an xray while pregnant, and she said that she still wonders about her child, because that child displays unusual behavior and if maybe it's from that xray.
