(Abscess). His cheek was swollen. We had seen his pediatric dentist at Tooth Buds (whom we also love by the way). Dr. Lauren is not our normal dentist, but she was great. She called Dr. Nishimoto to seek a second opinion in his specialty. They were able to take us the very next morning (my son wasn't in pain, maybe a 2/10). They fit us into their schedule and we were able to get in first thing the next morning. They even let us in the office BEFORE they opened to sign papers and get settled. We didn't wait long at all in the waiting room. Front desk staff were very friendly, office was clean and inviting. But my main point for the review is the CARE we got from Dr. Nishimoto. He is AMAZING with kids!!! OMG you could just tell he LOVES kids. He asked my son questions to determine what was going on. He saw my son for a follow up appt in a few days. For me as a mom, I was very worried because of all the horror stories you hear about infections in the mouth that can lead to DEATH. He was very attentive to my worry and concern. He took the time to explain to me what could be causing the swelling and pain and ruled out what it couldn't be such as mumps! I found our office visit to be very thorough. Turns out his diagnosis of what my son had was correct and my son felt better the next day. If I can remember correctly he had like an infection of his salivary glands and some swollen lymph nodes. Thank you Dr. Nishimoto and staff for the above and beyond quality care. We hope to see you again in 10 years (and no sooner) when my son needs his wisdom teeth pulled!

Long story short: Two weeks before my cleaning 7/7/23 I called for an estimate and confirm if still had benefits to cover annual cleanings. In which Harriet, replied I can call my own insurance to check. She also gave me the medical billing code to check myself? What type of practice tells you to get your exam preapproved with insurance yourself? This is all done by institution in order to give you an estimate/out pocket costs. On Harriet's advice and insistence this is should all be done by me - I called hds to check my benefits. They said I had one covered cleaning left on my coverage. Thinking I had coverage, I proceeded to show up my appt. 7/7/23. Come to find out bc they are periodontal, this exam goes under 'periodontal maintenance.' So Harriet saids my insurance wouldn't cover and I'd had to pay out pocket around $173 for cleaning. Then she also makes insinuating remark "all I care about is money." Why wouldn't I use my insurance if I have insurance? After back and forth with her calling as well as me calling my insurance at iha's office, come to find out I do have coverage for periodontive maintenance up to 70% as long as I had history of Dr. Iha seeing me. Needless to say all this was waste of my time!! Took off work early for nothing. All this should've been taken care of when I called for estimate two weeks prior to my exam... hence why it's called PRE- authorization? Def won't be coming here again. Sure there's def other better periodontists who want my business.

I wanted someone with a lot of experience because the thought of having posts screwed into my jaw bone frightened me at first. I did a lot of research on the internet but I was still skeptical but in my initial consultation with Dr Yamamoto, all my fears were dispersed instantly. He gentle mannerism and thorough knowledge won me over. Plus, he asked me questions and listened intently. I've been to so many dentist and oral surgeons and have come across many uncaring or indifferent doctors or worst yet I get the hard sell. There's a lot of money involved in implants and when you need 3 like I did, some dentists see gold in dem mountains! But to Dr Yamamoto, I really felt like he was truly concerned about my health and welfare, easing my fears, making me comfortable, explaining in detail the process and all the while checking on how I'm feeling. I knew from that initial meeting, he was the one. The staff was professional and experts in their jobs. Each did their task efficiently and I could tell they enjoyed what they did, took their job seriously and knew they were a part of a skilled team that worked like a well oiled machine. The prep went smoothly and then came the day to place the implants in my jaw. He said it would be painless and I am super sensitive to pain in my mouth. By golly, it was! He worked quickly and expertly and we was done placing 3 implants within an hour. Constantly checking on how I was doing. While he worked he explained to me what he was doing., I liked knowing what was going on. In the end we had a talk on caring for the implants, the staff gave me explicit instructions for home and that was it. BAM! After the surgery I had no discomfort at all. A little swelling but I took no pain pills. I followed their instructions and a week later he checked his work and was pleased with the result. Now the implants need to attach to the bone for 3 months. Today was my final visit. I was ecstatic! Three months flew by and I never once felt pain, discomfort or concern. I knew it was a success. Dr Yamamoto checked first on how I was doing and explained what the torque test was for. He checked his work, did his test and was pleased. Done! What was interesting was that he asked me how my experience was with him and his staff. And if I was pleased to please comment on his practice. I like that. As a business owner, I totally believe in asking your customer for their business and their feedback. I feel, it keeps you honest and true to your profession. You have nothing to hide. Your customers and in this case patients are your best advocates. Why not ask them to be your spokespersons. A businessman or practitioner strives even harder at their profession knowing they will be reviewed by every patient in every procedure. Kudos to this exceptional oral surgeon, his entire staff and the incredible practice they have fostered. One last thing. I have to give credit to my dentist Dr Candace Wada for referring me to Dr Yamamoto. Dr Wada is another fine dentist who I was fortunately referred to by a good friend Tanya who works in the office. Dr Wada is in her own right a fantastic practitioner. Do yourself a favor and read her reviews.

The staff members seem professional, the dentists are friendly, and the space is clean. They also have ample parking, and are situated right next to a high end mall. Plus, the dental equipments they use are also pretty new. However, the 1-2 star reviews are ALSO valid. The way this dental office is run makes it feel more like a business than a medical practice. Like what other reviewers pointed out, there seems to be a frequent tendency for them to emphasize your need for higher level services. This is my second visit and twice, did the hygienist strongly recommend that I go through a 2-3 hour deep cleaning procedure - something that was never, ever suggested by other dentists. They also have a rather strong sales pitch. The way they approach you and communicate the "treatment plan" makes you believe that you are expected to move forward with what they recommend. And unless you really think about what they are selling... you will probably jump right ahead into what they suggest. When I go to a medical professional, I expect to be treated as a patient who is need of essential care. That means receiving only medically necessary interventions and nothing else. I am not a customer, and shouldn't be sold anything that I don't need.

In fact, my son is planing a far trip from East Coast to tend to his dental needs at Doctor's Ho, because he says there is no one out there he trusts anymore and no one out there (visited 4 professionals) that of Doctor Ho expertise, manner, knowledge, and ability. In retrospect, the best part we both perceive, is Doctor's Ho genuine concern for his patients and desire to bring about the best course of action. We experienced his outstanding care in the far past, resolving previous extensive needs. My husband and a friend or two are also his happy patients. It was an amazing experience, today, despite the discovery of a deep cavity, which Doctor Ho gracefully reminded me to be optimistic about. He has a way to put people at ease; I so appreciated his gentle comment! It felt good to have my teeth gently cleaned at last while hearing joyful laughter from another room. The dental stalls are open style so as soon as you walk in, bam ‐ they are right there. But, behind…read morethem is an amazing view of the city below. The receptionist was really friendly and patiently waited (& assisted) my mother fill all the required forms. After all the administrative process was out of the way, we waited only a short time before the dental assistant came out, walked my mother (patient) a short distance from the waiting area, and to the nearby station. I watched as he put his gloves on before conducting what seemed like a normal routine to him. He reviewed the patient file that was just turned in to the receptionist, and entered vitals in a computer in the workstation. Another dental assistant joined them shortly after. She introduced herself to my mother before asking a few questions then proceeded to conduct an evaluation of her teeth. She verbalized her findings to the dental assistant who was still working from the computer (I assume he was inputting the info into the system). Once the exam was done, the dental assistant discussed her findings with my mother. I was able to overhear most of the conversation from the waiting area. It was a bit hard to hear because of the music playing but, I got the general gist of the conversation. Needless to say, patient privacy wasn't a big consideration during the layout of the offices and dental chairs. After the exam and discussion, the dental assistant gathered some dental hygiene items, toothpaste, toothbrush, floss, and gave my mother a small goodie bag. She waited another few minutes before the dentist came over accompanied by a third dental assistant (the other two where now assisting other patients). They both walked away seemingly to consult on another patient but came back shortly after. Now attending to my mother, the dentist reviewed her files then conducted his own evaluation. Overall the processes was thoroughly conducted, from the administrative intake to the dental evaluation. The only negative aspect is the open style, although it provides a great view, it can create some patient privacy issues.
