Visited to see Tom Felton play as Draco Malfoy for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. He did not disappoint and neither did the rest of the cast. They were so good, I became a fan of Emmet Smith and Daniel Fredrick. The way they portrayed their characters perfectly. Tom even did an amazing job. It felt complete watching him in movies and now seeing him in perform in person. It was perfect. The whole production was amazing. Beside the production, the theatre has no bad spots. Despite me sitting near the back in the middle section, i still was able to see the whole play and Tom. Not clearly, but good enough. I even love that the production included the audience in pieces of the show. Ovetall, i HIGHLY recommend visiting Lyric Theatre to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child even when Tom Felton isnt in the show. Everyone did such an amazing job and the theatre did such a great job keeping us on our toes. Only complaint is intermission time is a bit short. Lyric Theatre is located at 214 West 43rd Street (between 7th and 8th Avenues) in the Theater District and Box Office customer service is very patient, helpful and attentive service. I purchased one theatre ticket for an extortionate price $150.00 "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" for a August Sunday matinee. Seating is laid out across three levels: Orchestra (raked view/ sloped), the Dress Circle aka mezzanine (stadium style), and the Balcony (accessible by stairs; no elevator access and steep theater rake view). It contains 1,622 seats total and is operated by ATG Entertainment. From my seat, I had a full scale perspective view as I was equipped with my prescription eye glasses for distance. It was sufficient leg room. I always have a penchant to purchase my ticket in-person at the Box Office and there are no frivolous surcharge or additional fees. I was able to obtain a flyer advertising "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child," Broadway play. All bags will be inspected upon arrival which I have grown very accustomed due to a prior employer. All patrons are subject to enter a metal detector for safety and security like courthouses. There is no traditional stage curtain, but the show did start and end on time. The theatre marquee signage discreetly displays Lyric Theatre in whimsical celestial moon and stars. The acoustic was very good quality overall as the spatial sound to ensure balanced audio distribution across the Orchestra, Dress Circle, and Balcony levels to project clear vocal delivery with clarity. Lyric Theatre has been fully redesigned specifically for the production of "Harry Potter And The Cursed Child," Broadway play. Yes, there is fire, small water tank, hidden rigging for magic duels, and Dementors float hovering over the audience, trapdoors for character swaps, characters and stage hand in dark clothing swirling in long dark robes transition moving props and set design, hidden rigging, across the stage in darkness. I have a great admiration for the effects for the Time Turner Effect use of projection mapping, precise lighting, and audio-visual ripples to make objects look like they are floating while warping the room. WOW! The stage was renovated to custom built a rotating turntable which is not as famous as Richard Rodgers Theatre for "Hamilton," the Broadway musical. The theatre ceiling does not have the standard circular dome painted mural or lighting chandelier unlike most NYC Broadway theatres from my seat perspective. The ceiling and balcony facade is equipped with projected background lighting for aesthetically pleasing interiors. How did the special effects crew make all this happen? The lobby contains the iconic red British telephone booth. The lobby contains the Company cast names and standby for any lead actors' scheduled absence. The lobby ceiling contains a gargantuan oval mural of whimsical celestial sun, stars and moon in ornate with lighting. I entered the theatre half hour early and was able to utilized the facility which were abundant and functioning. The hand dryer was very weak as it is not a Dyson brand. After being settled in my seat half hour in the show, I was deeply freezing from the brutal artic cold air conditioning which I did have a sweater as defense. The gift shop features my default Harry Potter items: chocolate frogs and jelly beans. I purchased from ATG Lyric Theatre's website and the theatre staff was very helpful to assist which cost less than the gift shop extortionate price and further beneficial, my order was delivered to my seat pre-show. Every seat back contains a QR code enabling patrons to purchase gift items, themed drinks, Harry Potter snacks, or souvenirs which can be delivered directly to your seat pre-show or during intermission. read more

I saw Harry Potter and the Cursed Child here with my friend last week. We had such a great time! The way they transformed the theater is truly unlike anything else on Broadway. The theming is a Harry Potter fan's dream! The employees are also super nice and even though it was crowded, they did a great job of managing it. The bar has fun themed drinks and snacks. I had their golden snitch frozen cocktail and it was delish! The seats themselves were roomy and comfortable. There are also a lot of spots for photo-ops. Oh, and the show is incredible! Looks like Tom Felton has extended his run on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child until November 1, 2026. So I hope this (and others) reviews will be insightful to others. Attended a Tuesday 7pm show. Doors open around 6:00pm. We got in line around 5:45pm ish but there were PLENTYYYYY of others already ahead of us. Going through security check was a bit chaotic. Think small cramped area while trying to unpack & repack your purse/bag. I don't think there were any specific measurements for your handbags per se. I've seen different shapes and sizes. Once you get through security check, the chaos continues. Lines everywhere and you're not sure what each line is for. People will be taking videos/photos of the ceiling. To the left, there will be a red phonebooth for photos ops. Next to that will be the concession stand. And then the merch section. There are restrooms located downstairs and upstairs. The photo op where you hold and represent your house flag will be located upstairs. There's no photographers there so you will have to get someone in line to take your pics for you. Crazy how fast 45minutes go by. Next thing you know, you'll have to start heading over to your seats. My friend and I were in Orchestra Row R, Seats 2 & 4. Seat 2 is the aisle seat. Unfortunately, seat 4 was smacked right behind the seat in front of me. My view was looking at the person's head in front of me the entire time unless I shift to the left or right JUST so I can get a little bit of angle to see the stage. My suggestion will be to sit in seats with a larger number (like maybe 10 and beyone) as those seats will be staggered to the row in front of them. Think of it like a wide U-shaped. SHOW STARTS ON TIME. It's about three hours long with a 20 min intermission at the halfway mark. Once again, 20 minutes goes by FASTTTT. Barely enough time to go to the bathroom if you're not the first few in line. I was able to make a quick purchase at the merch section for a tote bag ($30) + a Draco Malfoy shirt ($40). The show was everything I've dreamed it would be. Enticing and kept you entertained. There were no 'boring' parts whatsoever. I even think the casual HP folks would still enjoy it. Tom Felton though....*swoons. Present time Cynthia crushes on him just the same as 15 year old Cynthia did. read more

I have been to four shows on Broadway this past year and this theater so far has been my favorite. Through a friend of a friend I was able to purchase house seats where all I had to do was go to the box office to receive them- getting the tickets from the box office was a breeze. I absolutely loved the setup on the inside along with where the gift shop was, bar locations and bathrooms. It was pretty spread out for the most part. The seats were very comfortable compared to the other venues I attended as well. At the end of the show, my friend's friend gave me and my husband a backstage tour and we were able learn a bunch of new information about lyric theater that I found fascinating. Specifically before Harry Potter the whole theater went through a massive reconstruction - they reshaped balcony, added magical elements, made a whole new ceiling system to make the theater a more intimate experience for viewers. Going behind the stage was pretty amazing seeing the different platforms on the stag, the different props and just being able to see the entire theater from a performers point of view was just incredible. read more

My friend and I came to see T22felton on Broadway, obviously, and I ordered the trolley witch package ahead of time. My one piece of critical feedback would be can they expand the bathrooms PLEASE. 18 stalls in the basement with only a 15 mins intermission is just not enough time. The special effects were very cool! The theater is nice and comfortable, and I could see well both times (orchestra and dress circle). Went here to watch Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on a Friday night. I don't know when people start lining up but from the entrance doors on 43rd (there's supposedly another set of entrance doors on 42nd as well that aren't as known), we finally got to the end of the line at the corner of 8th Avenue... and we arrived AN HOUR before the show began. Keep that in mind. If I could have, I'd have tried to get there earlier because it was so chaotic inside. The line moved at a steady pace and you go through security check. They ask you to open all bags and empty your pockets before you go through a metal detector before you're in. Once you're in, it is CROWDED. The lobby was a mass of people trying to figure out lines because there's the line for merchandise and a line for concessions and both are long, and though the actual areas are 90 degrees from the other, and the "lines" looked more like the mass of people I mentioned. Tip: the place to buy merchandise is straight ahead and the place to buy concessions is on the right (there is a corded off area marking the line for the concessions that folded in on itself, but the one to buy merchandise is a straight one). The end of the concession line was parallel to the merchandise line, which lead to the confusion when I was there. I didn't buy merchandise but I did get in the line for concessions. I ended up getting a Butterbeer ($17) and they added on the souvenir cup without asking for an additional $5. I didn't exactly mind? But that's something you should know. They also have slushy type, HP-themed alcoholic drinks (around $20+) as well as mocktails for $10. I had asked for recommendations and the guy mentioned he didn't like sweet things so maybe the Ravenclaw Mocktail... which is Sprite based. So I ended up going with the Butterbeer which wasn't as sweet as I expected with a nice foam cap. We got seats in the Balcony center up a few rows but on the way there, there's a line... for a photo op. You can opt out, of course. We didn't. There's someone helping you find your seats and the theater is beautiful. It was great up until people sat in front of me and I, a 5 foot tall human, was blessed with someone with a super long torso sitting in front of me. Thank you. The play is about 3 hours long including intermission and I got a crick in my neck for looking around him for most of it. To my neck's relief, the group in front of me actually left an hour before the play ended to - I assume - line up outside and hopefully get Tom Felton's autograph/picture. There's a QR code at the seats to order and they'll bring your order to you at intermission which I thought was rather convenient. This review isn't about the play but it is pretty good. I hear this version is shorter than the one in the UK (they fast forward through the school years), but as this is my first time watching it, I can't confirm. I enjoyed it a lot and it sprinkled in gems from the books and is perfect for the Harry Potter fan. The amount of cheers and extended applause for Draco Malfoy's, "Scared Potter," was both amusing and understandable, especially with THE Tom Felton delivering it. The special effects are amazing and I can't figure out how most of them are done. The cast all play their parts perfectly. Tips for actually getting a good look at the cast: if you are seeing the play, good luck. You do have a better chance if you're seated in the orchestra. Otherwise, you'll have to leave an hour before it ends to get a good spot. The Stage Door that the cast members go through is to the right of the entrance on 43rd. It's obvious as the guards will have had it sectioned off. It's best to go on a day you're not seeing the show (unless you're okay with missing the last bit of it)... make sure to get there an hour before it ends. Cast members start coming out about 10 minutes after the show ends. If he does it, Tom Felton comes out at around the 20 minute mark at a run. He goes through it very fast as there's a lot of people but the cast members who come out are prepared with their own pen so don't worry if you forget yours. I left during the bowing and saw nothing but blurs and whatever my phone captured with my arms stretched up as high as they could go. I ended up returning the next day an hour before the show ended (funny enough, I think there was a bigger crowd the day before so this is really all up to luck) and managed to get a few autographs before Tom came out and an extremely blurry photo of him and half of one of my eyes (he goes really fast and I was sort of in a daze, haha). Overall, a surreal experience. The theatre is completely transformed to fit the play. It was wonderful! Almost completely worth the crazy several hour long ordeal to get the tickets. That was ridiculously stressful. read more

In it's 7th year of housing Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the theatre has been entirely transformed into a Harry Potter themed wonderland. There are entrances on both 43rd and 44th st; the 43rd st entrance is usually less crowded. Just to the right of the 44th st entrance (when facing the building) is where the stage door is. Inside they have a merch store (on the 43rd st side) with exclusive merch that can't be bought the Harry Potter store New York including Cursed Child themed clothing, Tom Felton window cards/posters, magnets, shirts. There are also smaller merch stands on both the first and second floors. There is also a dedicated candy store and a coat check. They have a ministry phone box, and there are various ig filters you can use to make paintings on the walls/ceilings move. Themed drinks like frozen alcoholic butterbeer are sold on both floors as well. I personally found it a bit bitter (the quality of the alcohol is just okay) but it was a fun drink. There is a qr code in front of your seat if you don't want to stand in line; they will bring it directly to you. But they do use lower quality totes to pack your order so it's kind of bad for the environment. Don't forget to come back out into the lobby during intermission as there are some fun changes that happen in the lobby. read more

It's HP-paradise (decorated to the nines - like entering the HP universe yourself). They tell you to arrive early, and if you do, there's plenty to do - grab a frozen or draft butterbeer at the bar, buy merchandise, take your picture at the photo background, visit the phone booth connected to the Ministry of Magic... The theater is absolutely gorgeous - the ceiling! The HP carpeting! We sat on the dress circle level, and I really appreciated that there were bathrooms on that level. This was my fourth time seeing this show (twice in SF, once in LA, and now NYC), and there's just something about seeing a play on Broadway that makes it even better. With Tom Felton returning as Draco, this was an easy yes for me. I purchased VIP tickets, which included lounge access, coat check, and snacks/drinks. The lounge itself was a nice perk, and the VIP staff were friendly and attentive, even letting us know when it was time to head back to our seats so we didn't miss anything. A couple of notes on the VIP experience: The private bathrooms were clean, but there were only two, which could be an issue during busier moments. Directions to the lounge could be clearer. We were initially told to wait in the regular coat check line, only to be sent to a VIP-only coat check via an elevator. If staff at the door had known, we would've saved about 15 minutes of waiting. As for the show itself--fantastic. The actors were brilliant, the production is still incredibly impressive, and the Lyric Theatre is beautiful. I do miss the original two-part version, but I understand why it was shortened and the story still works well. Seating was comfortable enough for me, but my 82-year-old uncle did complain about back discomfort, so that's something to keep in mind if you have mobility or comfort concerns. Even if you're not a big Harry Potter fan, this is a well-done, visually stunning production that's worth seeing at least once. read more

This theater is absolutely stunning. The vibe brings you back to the 20s and it feels old school. The red carpet, the tiered flooring, the ornate booths lining the walls of the theater. Dinner and a show on a Saturday night and what better theatre to see a show but at the beautiful Lyric Theatre. Fortunately for us Broadway fans, this theatre is focused on presenting an evening of Broadway at its finest! The staff are very efficient and thanks to their bag check process we no longer have to succumb to watching the pathetic smuggling of fast food into the theatre, "Go directly to the nearest exit, do not pass go or collect 200$"!! They also mean what they say when they tell you to TURN OFF YOUR PHONE, we don't spend hundreds of dollars to have a pathetic 45 year old man texting 30 year old women on Tinder throughout the performance. I took one of the trains which stops at 42nd St, and it was not far (sometimes walking in the area feels like it takes long bec of the crowds). When you enter the lobby, it felt magical like the theme of the story. Not very big but photo ops with a red telephone booth, decorated ceiling, even went to the 2nd level for a better lobby photo. Buy snacks like popcorn, Harry Potter candies, butterbeer, chocolate wands; can even order and they will bring to you. The theater is beautiful. The stage is simple, but it works with all the effects they need for the story. It gets so dark in the back of the stage that you don't see the transitions so it makes you wonder. I think I said "how did they do that?" A few times. Seating felt a bit cramped. Being short, people in front of me kind of blocked my view so had to lean a bit to one side a bit. I went here to see Harry Potter and the cursed child. The entry was a little chaotic, but quick. I am disabled so found the set up a little challenging, as there are lots of stairs. There is one elevator, it just can be slow. I sat in Box C on the third floor and was considering paying for the ambassador lounge, but the idea of having to go down two flights during intermission made me decide against it. I got the golden snitch cocktail which was spiced nicely, and a good frozen treat in a souvenir cup. It was around $22. I wanted to order it to my seat but it didn't seem to be an option to get cocktails that way, luckily the bar staff moved through the concession line quickly. I did end up ordering a water to my seat, which was $6, but you get a free chocolate frog with any order to your seat. I hadn't read the book but found the play to be enjoyable though a little long. The box seating was nice, I had full view of the stage. The chairs in the box are movable however if you are in box C, the four chairs fit quite tightly around the rail, so don't expect a ton of extra leg space. read more
