Minskoff is the home to the Lion King, and the theater reflects the popularity of the long running show, but in a subtle way that isn't overly themed. The large lion mask as you enter is a crowd pleaser, and the interior design colors reflect the show aesthetic. There are restrooms available on all levels, it was nice not to have to navigate to a far spot to go during intermission. The seats are comfy enough for a 2 plus hour sit for an average size adult. I didn't feel I was pressed into my neighbors personal space. The one negative note I have is they seem to have chosen seats over sanity... there is a lack of navigable space in the rows.... Ie if you are dead center you will have crawled over 50 people from either direction to get there. read more

Came for the lion king and was absolutely blown away! Highly recommend this theatre if you're in Manhattan. We came for 8pm showing, and started lining up at 7pm as we wanted to get physical tickets for keepsakes. They started letting folks in promptly at 7:20pm. Security checks were fairly quick and we were in the theatre within just a few minutes! There's plenty of washroom stalls on both sides of the theatre. And several snack and souvenir shops throughout the venue. Was a bit disappointed that they ran out of popcorn, but loved the lion king themed drinks-- for lions (with alcohol), for cubs (non-alcoholic)! Attended the Lion King show at the Minskoff Theatre. Staff was friendly and provided assistance when needed. Directed you to your seats and have reminder when intermission was about to end. Concession stand staff was cheerful and helpful. Loved his attitude but didn't get his name. read more

One of the best broadway shows: The Lion King. The theater itself is very nice and huge. The seats in the orchestra section are very roomy and comfortable. In this show, the cast comes down the aisles a few times so sitting in orchestra section and by the aisle was very cool. read more

I haven't been to this theater before unless Lion King has always been here then I have. It had multiple floors with a lot of seating. I did sit all the way on the top but I didn't feel like there were any bad seats in the theater. There are multiple bathrooms so no need to fret if you're all the way on the top floor. There's also a concession stand with food and drinks. The acoustics were great here and I don't think any of the seats here would give you partial view which is great. read more

I really love the Minskoff. It is quite an ornate theater in its own way and has a lot of charm. They have nice refreshments and the seats aren't horrible. I was in the mezzanine and had plenty of room and didn't feel like I was going to fall. read more

I had the opportunity to see The Lion King at this theater on their 25th anniversary. How time flies! I was completely impressed by how spacious this theater is. The seats are comfortable, so we didn't have to stand up if there was a patron coming in. The snack bars are located strategically throughout the theater. My only qualm is that the exit way gets very tight at the end of the show, but overall we did enjoy this theater. read more

This review is not about the performance... which was AMAZING as always! I also would like to add I've seen the Lion King on broadway (NY) multiple times but at a different theater (New Amsterdam Theatre). Minskoff theatre is beautiful but the staff are curt, rude and overbearing. Several of the staff treat human beings with such disregard and a lack of respect. The intermission time is not sufficient for the amount of people the theatre holds especially if you would also like to visit the concessions. Again paying visitors are treated like cattle, rushed to do everything, condescending tones, to include aggressive and irritable responses etc. I hope in the future the Lion King is moved to a different theatre, one that accommodates the complexities of the performance and an enjoyable experience for the audience to include staff that are welcoming. read more

The Minskoff Theatre currently houses The Lion King and is located super close to Times Square, making it a convenient and exciting spot to catch a Broadway show. The people working at the theater were genuinely very nice and made the experience even better. When you enter, you ride an escalator up to the second floor, and immediately to your left, there's a store filled with Lion King merch. To the right, they had props set up where you could take a picture with a fake Rafiki. Seating was comfortable, and we were lucky enough to win orchestra seats right in the middle from the online lottery, which gave us a perfect view of everything on the stage. After the show, the theater closed pretty quickly, so if you want to shop for souvenirs, do it fast. Prices were reasonable, and they even had discounts like shirts for $10, which was a nice surprise for a Disney show. It was the best musical I have ever seen, I wanted to cry! It's inspiring and I loved the way everyone worked together. The theatre itself is very casual, almost everyone was in their everyday clothes/tourist clothes. It is very packed but has a good enough system that you don't feel tight or rushed. The good...The Lion King is still an amazing show to see! *Though to be honest, the touring show opening was MUCH more impressive!* The bad...The Minskoff Theatre seems dated and the staff unconcerned with your experience. We attended a Saturday night show and it was obvious that staff didn't clean the theater or the RESTROOMS after the matinee show. Debris on the carpets and dirty restrooms with overflowing trash, little/no toilet paper, and no soap. Despite being host to the most popular and lucrative musical for nearly 20 years, the concessions and souvenir stands were staged as "temporary", like at a tour show venue. You'd think they'd have settled in and made a more solid merch space. As is normal, all merch was so overpriced that most in line walked away without purchasing anything. Just a thought...lower the prices and actually sell some stuff? The seating was cramped and uncomfortable especially for the taller or bigger folk, as per theater usual. Despite what the site says, doors don't open until 20 minutes before showtime on the evening show. If it's raining, bring an umbrella as they haven't figured out the courtesy of snaking the line so you can stand under the cross walk between 44th and 45th. And would it be too much of an expense to put some heaters in that gift of an overhang for the winter months? Otherwise staff, seating, and everything else was well managed. Building and theatre are beautiful. May be appropriate to rename to "The Lion King Theatre". Of the nearly 50 productions hosted here over 50 years, Lion King has been running for over a third of this theatre's existence. read more

This was my first trip to New York and the Lion King was a must. The show did not disappoint. The entrance was packed. However, it is so well organized that wait time was minimal. I felt like we were all seated in a timely manner. They have snacks and beverages available. The show was incredible. The costumes were colorful and just perfect. The performance was amazing. The line to get in was long but moved fast. Sat at Orchestra, Section Y and was great other than the slight overhead (minimal blockage). Was close to the aisle so it was cool seeing the cast run down the aisles. The drinks are pricey but were tasty. Ordered The Mark of the King and a beer right before the show started (which the line was short) then grabbed a Chardonnay and White Claw during intermission (and that line was long). The show was fun but does seem a bit outdated but nonetheless a classic broadway show that everyone should see. At times, it was hard to hear the voices over the orchestra/music. Hey, It's the circle of life!!! Yes you have seen the movie but they did a great job bringing the movie to life on broadway!!! The theater is a nice size,not too big and every seat in the house is good (sat behind the orchestra, row S seat 13). I was impressed how they did the animals on stage, it all worked well! Stage opened up in the middle and scenery came up out of the floor. Really cool backgrounds too. Actors sang all the songs from the movie and did a nice job. This is a great theatre to see a show. When we arrived for our evening lion king show the check in was empty. We sailed right in. Actual nice souvenirs if you're into that. No line at concessions before the show but at intermission it was jammed. We had really nice orchestra seats with a direct view of the stage to see all the magic! The Lion King was an amazing show!! I won the Broadway lottery, which made for an unforgettable night. Given I'm writing a review on the Theatre itself, I will say it's confusing to find /if/ you are solely navigating via a Map app. I just followed the lights and the symbols for The Lion King, and the entrance to the ticket booth and theater entrance is in an "alley" of sorts in between 44th and 45th streets. And alley in quotes because it's pretty wide and glammed up with a ton of lights and the Lion King posters, but it can be confusing if you walk past it completely and don't walk through it. Because Broadway shows tend to be chaotic, the staff uses their outside voices to yell directions at you, but are pretty helpful nonetheless. read more

When they opened the doors it was a smooth process to head to the seats. We were able to book 2nd row seats by the aisle for Lion King. The performance itself was amazing. Definitely a bucket list item fulfilled! But the theater facilities overall could be better. The theater was clean and the staff prompt and attentive. But I noticed they did not have sufficient bathrooms. During intermission 1/2 of the line didn't even get a chance to use the bathroom before the show started again. I would hope that there would be more bathrooms available. The line for the gift shop on the main lobby floor was also very confusing. No pick up window for the online orders as well. Overall a great theater experience! Deducting 1 star for the bathroom situation. read more

All kinds of memorabilia of the show in the lobby - pictures, statues, costumes, etc. Some great picture op spots. Nice comfortable seating and sight lines in the theater. Lion king was one of the few shows I have seen while in New York. I had never been to the Minskoff but I have passed by it many times. It was amazing. It was like a well oiled machine. The shows were wonderful, cast were amazing and they had a technique for intermission to get people in and out of the bathrooms lol. I love it when staff pay attention when I go somewhere. It look this long for me to finally see my first Broadway Show. I was able to get two tickets for half off thanks to the Broadway Week deal. As far as I can tell, Minskoff Theatre is home to the popular Disney show The Lion King and it is the only show that they play here. I guess that's how all Broadway Shows work? Rent out a location and run solely one specific show out of that theatre. Can you tell it's my first time? You can be expected to be guided to your seats with ease as there is someone checking your tickets after every corner. Overall a fantastic performance, great singing, and music (played in the pit myself in high school). I felt there was too much props being used to tell the story. A few days later having a conversation with a colleague, I learned that it was supposed to be a puppet show, going back to its original roots. Thought that was pretty interesting to learn about. I am already looking forward to seeing my next Broadway show. read more
