I normally love this place. We visit every time we drive through Abilene. We stopped at lunch and it took over an hour just to get our lunch menu orders. My mom's steak was so tough she couldn't eat it, after waiting so long we didn't have time to send it back. Our other food was delicious though. This was definitely not the norm for Lytle. We will eat there again but hoping for much better service next time! read more

Was told by a customer service agent at the airport to check out Lytle. I was impressed upon walking in with the size and decorations. However, a lot of that ended when I sat at the bar, which was virtually empty, and received very lackluster service. I could understand if the bar and restaurant were busy, but they were not. After a lot of reflection after leaving I realized that I was ignored many times by the staff. I wasn't even asked if I wanted water, bread (which was complimentary, and after asking for it was super dry), or a bag for my leftovers. After receiving the smallest steak on earth (which was a 4 oz filet mignon for $28?!), and two sets of green beans which were salty, I had to hurry to the airport. While waiting for my food I had to swat off several flies from dropping in my old fashioned, which was actually decent. However, I would not return for a juicy steak due to the service. Wanted to take my son and grandchildren out for steaks and picked Lytle Land. My son hadn't been in a few years. I didn't take pictures though. First off, I want to note that I wasn't impressed at all with the inside of the restaurant. The cement floors looked greasy all over. They seated us in a corner of one of the sections as it was split into different sections. It wasn't a pretty corner and actually had a piece of the wall duck taped. I didn't find the restroom exceptionally clean and the air vent had quite a build up of greasy dirt that was very visible. We had 3 appetizers and all were great. We had the cheese sticks, chips and salsa and queso and the grilled quail legs. This was my first time trying the quail legs and they were really good, seasoned well. My grandson had a patty melt which he said was good and it was a nice size for the price. The rest of us got the Sharon Ribeye. They were good but I've had much better. My son who eats steaks all over said he wasn't impressed. His steak was a bit chewy and he said it wasn't a good cut. He said it was a 3 out of 5. This was a one and done for me especially since Abilene Texas has quite a few really good steakhouses. read more

Driving across country in 2017, I stopped here and had the large Abilenian rib eye that was cooked to perfection. Finally made it back to Abilene 6/11/25 just in time for dinner. Ordered the smaller Sharon Rib eye steak this time because I still had miles to go. More than enough meat to fill me up. Again one heck of a good tasting steak. When this place first opened it was A+++. Last time we ate there the sirloin was tough and even a sharp knife did little. The manager came out took it back and bragged shed pick out a good one. Came back out with a new steak and it was barely anymore tender. What I had was fine and I know sirloin is not a tender cut but still, there is no excuse for selling sublar steak at a steak restaurant with a king and stellar reputation. I might try it again. But we honestly thought our waitress quit because after she took our order we just didn't see her again....anywhere. The food is overall very good. In town for work with Boss Lady. Stopped here due to a recommendation. For being a steakhouse, the steak wasn't prime beef. Our server was pleasant and kept checking on us...kudos. I ordered a couple of drinks from the bar, which must have been via smoke signals, because it took way too long to arrive. We ordered a steak and a pork chop. She had the steak ,which was cooked to order...medium. Problem was that it was tough and had lots of grizzle. I wasn't that hungry so I ordered a single pork chop, green beans and mashed potatoes. Steak was ALL gristle carried it home for the dog. It was the lunch special wagyu sirloin, not special had good flavor just couldn't chew. Husband had the same, he said "I just chewed what I could and swallowed the rest". Waitress was very attentive and she apologized for steak and said she would tell the cook. Finally tried this place after years of living here and seeing their busy parking lot. Perinis was packed and we had a craving for some bacon wrapped jalapeño poppers, so we ended up at Lytle! Atmosphere resembles a locally owned version of Texas Roadhouse. The poppers were plentiful and had a bit a heat to them! Everything we ordered tasted like a easily home cooked meal no WOW factor if you know what I mean. When I go out to eat I normally want something I can't get at home, but if you're longing for a meal that tastes like mom and dad whipped something real quick this is it. I'm not quite sure what I was expecting when I ordered the salmon on the lighter portion of the menu, but the sliver of a salmon that came out made us laugh.
