Stuffed catfish

After trying the Buffalo Gap location of Galveston Seafood Company, we decided to check out their Highway 80 spot and overall, it was a good experience! We made a reservation online and showed up about 10 minutes early. Even on a busy night, they seated us right on time, which was a great start. We ordered the gator bites for an appetizer, and they were really good. The only downside was that the extra plates our server brought out were all dirty, which was definitely disappointing. For my meal, I had the stuffed catfish, and it was amazing! It was flavorful and came with mashed potatoes and boudin. My daughter ordered the kids mac n cheese with fries. The mac n cheese tasted almost like a cheesy Alfredo-style sauce, and it was actually really good! Overall, the food was great and we'd definitely go back. just wish the plate situation had been better.

After a round of golf we decided to find a place for dinner. Looked at Yelp for some reviews and found GSC. Reservations were a good move because when our party of 6 arrived the lobby was slammed. We were seated a few minutes after our 645 pm reservation. The wait staff was great and welcoming. The menu was pretty large with a of of choices for apps, entrees, sides and desserts. Our party ordered the jalapeño poppers, loaded fries, ribeye, blackened redfish ponchetrain x 2, and Seafood Chile Relleno

We had the delicious bread pudding and raspberry cheesecake for dessert.

This place is awesome! Starting with Peyton, our precious waitress, our visit was wonderful. We started with the gator bites for appetizers, then had the fried catfish with remoulade (her) and the blackened redfish with collards (me). And those collards; I'd go back just for another bowl of those! Peyton learned it was our first visit to Abilene (and our anniversary!), and treated us to dessert. Needless to say, we left full and very glad we chose to visit Galveston Seafood.

Health department score.

5 days before Father's day we reserved a table. When we got there it was stifling hot inside. We found out from the waitress the AC was broken and other reviews support this. She waved me off and said I'll get a manager in less than a minute the hostess came over representing herself as a manager. I asked her WHY y'all are not telling people who makes a reservation that the AC is not working at all just ceiling fans it had to be 110 with no air circulation. I did tell what I thought the manager then witnessed cockroaches and just over all nastiness. The owner ROB came from the kitchen sweaty, crazy eyed and my thought he looks intoxicated. He asked what was wrong and I told him his waitress was being a rude heifer WHY aren't you telling people when they make reservation that the AC is OUT or put a sign on the door his response GET THE F-CK out of my restaurant and that set him off and he set me off. My large group already started walking out but despite this he followed me out ( with the 3 other people with him all yelling get the F--- out of my restaurant like they all owned it. The 3-4 people followed me out cussing. Wow when the only question was all due to filthyness, cockroaches and a inferno inside in June. We didn't eat the food so I can't judge that. After we left our group had to go and stand in line for an hour at another restaurant we actually ended up getting a discount because what we went through. My question is WHY would you put your employees through working in extreme heat to turn a buck. It doesn't seem like a unreasonable request to ask to be informed about NO AC. The owner will not take responsibility for a filthy building, the cockroaches or the AC being out. Has had many of his friends complain about my review. We had 13 people in our group and every single one of them were extremely upset by the response of the owner. He uses him being a vet to draw in customers but he doesn't act like a veteran. We had 2 elderly gentleman that were also veterans thats why we choose to eat there but in actually he's using his time in the military to scrape up business. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. If he put as much effort into his Restaurant as he has put in trying to get the reviews taken down it might be a more profitable Restaurant.

Worth another update! I finished my meal and thought that was incredible! I still can't fathom that there is such great seafood in Abilene, Texas! This food was somehow fresher than the meals I had on a recent trip to Port A! The crab cakes are delicious. Quality and Quantity here.. just phenomenal! The AC seemed to be broken the day we decided to come here for dinner, but the food made the dining experience worth it! I think that says a lot in itself. Our waitress went above and beyond! Wonderful service. Can't recommend Galveston Seafood Company enough. It looks unassuming on the outside, but you're in for a solid meal! You'll come back for more.

Seafood Platter

We had the seafood platter (fried catfish & shrimp) and the fried shrimp po'boy. The catfish was light and crispy, fried to perfection. The po'boy was so loaded, it was impossible to eat it as a sandwich (I tried). It was so delicious though. Bite sized shrimp with just the right amount of batter and lightly fried. The sauce gave it the perfect flavor and the veggies were fresh. The sides for our dishes were hush puppies, greens, and fries. All had good flavor.

Chicken fried steak

The reviews were right. The chicken fried steak was fantastic and huge! Mashed potatoes great. Okra good. Could have used more gravy. Steak was extremely tender and very crunchy.

Blackened catfish and shrimp today. The cabbage is delicious!

Unfortunately, what followed felt less like a return to a favorite and more like a reminder of how far a once-reliable experience can drift. The dining room was modestly busy primarily four-top tables already filled yet the pace at the entrance suggested a restaurant operating beyond its rhythm. I waited to be seated while the staff moved with the weary urgency of a team stretched thin. When I was finally shown to my table, the tone was set: my server appeared courteous, but understandably worn, as though the evening had already asked too much. The meal itself mirrored the atmosphere. The shrimp appetizer arrived first -- competent, but uninspired. Perfectly acceptable, yet lacking the brightness or seasoning that might make it memorable. It did its job, but no more. The chicken sandwich followed, and here the disappointment settled in. It was serviceable, but noticeably removed from the quality and character I remembered. The texture, the flavor, the overall execution all felt diminished, as if the recipe remained but the care had quietly left the kitchen. By the end of the visit, the experience began to explain the lower online reviews. Nothing was outright poor, yet nothing rose above ordinary. And for a brand that once stood out, ordinary feels like a missed opportunity. There is clearly a strong foundation here, one built over years and loyal customers who remember when the food and service carried more energy and consistency. Perhaps the path forward isn't reinvention, but a return. A return to the standards, the recipes, and the attention that made this location worth the visit in the first place. But then again, what do I know? I'm just someone who's been coming back since the Florida days, hoping to taste what made it special.

Sat down at the bar waited at least 15 mins and no one even came over or addressed us. I attempted…read moreto call one of the bartenders over, waived my arms and said can I get a drink and they both ignored me. So we just got up and left. Don't waste your time. One star is being too generous in my opinion. If you want business at your location then you need to make sure you greet someone before 15 mins!

Neither one of them really knows anything really about what is uniquely available to eat in Abilene. My wife and I were on our way to the hospital after picking up their kid from daycare when we were asked to pick up some dinner. We had offered to get them anything in town to eat while at the hospital. Given how they were new to town, their regular from Dominoes was requested. It was at this point I suggested Vagabond, telling the couple how for years it's been the best. The wife saw the menu and was impressed, eager to try it out. (We ordered 1 Lucia, 1 Carnivore, 2 Crawfish Hand Pies) The order was placed online, right as we left our driveway, I received a text confirming the order, which was followed up 15-20mins later by another one stating it was ready for pickup. It felt fast. As I walked in, I saw the traditional sights: the owner at the front welcoming everyone in, a filled up room with various parties enjoy their food and conversations, a staff working hard and yet ready to serve. I was told by the owner to go up to the bar where my order was waiting for me. I was in and out so quickly that I could feel the warm air coming off the pizza as I took it outside to my car. My one regret was not telling the owner on my way out how this meal would be the first meal for a mom who just gave birth. When I got to the hospital, the food was still warm. When both the mother and father had their first bite of the Lucia, they both had that 'wow' reaction to how amazing the taste was. Everything ordered honestly received a 'wow.' It was perfect. I have had Vagabond ever since they were out of a food trailer. Since then, it has been the place I always bring people to, particularly if they are visiting from out of town. It was the place where my wife and I brought our kid for his first restaurant meal. The consistent experience of it all is simply the best. I don't review places often, but last night was special. Never a bad thing to say thank you to a group of people who unknowingly wowed a father and mother in a hospital room. Thank you.
