We found Galveston Seafood & Grill through a Facebook recommendation and decided to try it for my daughter's 1st birthday and my mother-in-law's birthday. When we first pulled up, we almost went somewhere else, but I'm so glad we didn't. There were 6 of us, and every single person enjoyed their food. We started with the boudain egg rolls, then ordered the Bayou, Sampler, and Cajun boils, a chicken fried steak, and the Redfish Pontchartrain. Even our one-year-old loved her mac and cheese and fried okra. Everything was delicious. They are BYOB, which was great, and Pinky's is just down the road if you need to grab something before dinner. The cheesecake and beignets were the perfect desserts for our birthday girls. The service was amazing as well. Our server was kind, attentive, and even got the staff to sing to my daughter, which made the evening extra special. My only complaint is that it was a little warm inside, but that wasn't enough to take away from a great experience. On September 2nd 2026, I attempted to pay for my dinner at Galveston Seafood Company using my standard debit card issued by my bank. This business added a 4% surcharge to my total explicitly for use of Debit cards, which violates Texas Business and Commerce Code 604A.0021. When I brought this state law to the staff's attention, my concerns were dismissed out of hand. The establishment refused to waive the illegal fee and forced me to pay the surcharged amount before we could leave as none of us had cash. Just so everyone knows and should file a complaint with the Texas Attorney General. As it is a per transaction fine. I get that it is 4% but in this economy every dollar counts. read more

After trying the Buffalo Gap location of Galveston Seafood Company, we decided to check out their Highway 80 spot and overall, it was a good experience! We made a reservation online and showed up about 10 minutes early. Even on a busy night, they seated us right on time, which was a great start. We ordered the gator bites for an appetizer, and they were really good. The only downside was that the extra plates our server brought out were all dirty, which was definitely disappointing. For my meal, I had the stuffed catfish, and it was amazing! It was flavorful and came with mashed potatoes and boudin. My daughter ordered the kids mac n cheese with fries. The mac n cheese tasted almost like a cheesy Alfredo-style sauce, and it was actually really good! This place is awesome! Starting with Peyton, our precious waitress, our visit was wonderful. We started with the gator bites for appetizers, then had the fried catfish with remoulade (her) and the blackened redfish with collards (me). And those collards; I'd go back just for another bowl of those! Peyton learned it was our first visit to Abilene (and our anniversary!), and treated us to dessert. food is so salty I cannot eat it. Both branches deliberately either soak their fish and shrimp in brine or deliberately OVER SALT their fish and shrimp. Not sure fried catfish is really catfish. Not only oversalted but somewhat tough. Does not look like freshwater catfish. i grew up on Texas Gulf Coast and we ate fried shrimp, salt water fish, and freshwater catfish all the time. I do not know if they have a location in Galveston, but the food is unique and excellent here. I've had three meals here this week while working in town the portions are large, the seafood gumbo and crawfish etouffee were both excellent soups,,,i ordered a cup each time but they are served in a small square bowl. It's a lot to eat. My third trip was a side salad in the same bowl. Tonight i tried the catfish on white rice with etouffee gravy and 3 shrimp. Worth another update! I finished my meal and thought that was incredible! I still can't fathom that there is such great seafood in Abilene, Texas! This food was somehow fresher than the meals I had on a recent trip to Port A! The crab cakes are delicious. Quality and Quantity here.. just phenomenal! The AC seemed to be broken the day we decided to come here for dinner, but the food made the dining experience worth it! I think that says a lot in itself. Our waitress went above and beyond! 5 days before Father's day we reserved a table. When we got there it was stifling hot inside. We found out from the waitress the AC was broken and other reviews support this. She waved me off and said I'll get a manager in less than a minute the hostess came over representing herself as a manager. I asked her WHY y'all are not telling people who makes a reservation that the AC is not working at all just ceiling fans it had to be 110 with no air circulation. I did tell what I thought the manager then witnessed cockroaches and just over all nastiness. The owner ROB came from the kitchen sweaty, crazy eyed and my thought he looks intoxicated. He asked what was wrong and I told him his waitress was being a rude heifer WHY aren't you telling people when they make reservation that the AC is OUT or put a sign on the door his response GET THE F-CK out of my restaurant and that set him off and he set me off. My large group already started walking out but despite this he followed me out ( with the 3 other people with him all yelling get the F--- out of my restaurant like they all owned it. The 3-4 people followed me out cussing. Wow when the only question was all due to filthyness, cockroaches and a inferno inside in June. We didn't eat the food so I can't judge that. After we left our group had to go and stand in line for an hour at another restaurant we actually ended up getting a discount because what we went through. My question is WHY would you put your employees through working in extreme heat to turn a buck. It doesn't seem like a unreasonable request to ask to be informed about NO AC. The owner will not take responsibility for a filthy building, the cockroaches or the AC being out. Has had many of his friends complain about my review. We had 13 people in our group and every single one of them were extremely upset by the response of the owner. He uses him being a vet to draw in customers but he doesn't act like a veteran. We had 2 elderly gentleman that were also veterans thats why we choose to eat there but in actually he's using his time in the military to scrape up business. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Super inconsistent. Sometimes we eat there and it's outstanding - and other times it's really bordering on awful. Not sure if it's just a difference in cooks or what but it really is quite a difference from day-to-day and week to week. Today I ordered my usual shrimp Poboy and it was terrible. We had the seafood platter (fried catfish & shrimp) and the fried shrimp po'boy. The catfish was light and crispy, fried to perfection. The po'boy was so loaded, it was impossible to eat it as a sandwich (I tried). It was so delicious though. Bite sized shrimp with just the right amount of batter and lightly fried. Restaurant was nasty saw roaches and wait staff rude. The best part they are cooking seafood with no Air Conditioner at all in 100+ weather Sweat is pouring off the cooks and staff and customers. I hope that the sweat doesn't get on people's food. We can't fight off the roaches or the 110 degrees in the building with only I would rather eat fish sticks from the freezer. As soon as we walked in the hostess was rude. We had made a reservation and she loudly said we didn't have one that it would be 45 min wait. (There were over 10 empty tables) When we confirmed the number and address we called from yelp she went to the back and spoke to someone and magically figured out we had a reservation. Ok, we like Galveston Seafood so much, here's another update. Here lately, this place has really impressed me. The senior menu is great for a lighter meal, and I see lots of seniors here. It even includes dessert! The lunch menu has a lot of variety and good prices. But my go to lately is the daily specials. Different every day and priced right, the specials are really good! I've done the hamburger steak and the chicken fried pork steak. Both are excellent, and come with 2 sides. Next I want to try the New York strip and the smothered pork chops. We ate here the night before flying out of Abilene airport. We ordered probably over half of the menu. Most of it was delicious and hearty. It reminded me of the kind of food that you would get in Louisiana. Leland was an exceptional server. We have eaten here several times. The food is amazing, to begin with. The gator...delicious! The grilled shrimp...fantastic. But today. Today stole the show! My daughter had her gall bladder removed and cannot digest Soy bean oil, without severe agony. I contacted them, via Facebook hoping they could tell me what oil they use. They replied. First response was they use vegetable oil. I was happy to hear that. We had a reservation for this morning. Then, within minutes, a compete apology that while they do use vegetable oil, their vendor was delayed until Weds. So they would be using soybean oil. They offered to grill or blacken whatever we wanted. But, of course, we opted to simply go another day! Full transparency and honesty and it does NOT get better than that! Our daughter almost talked us out of stopping when we pulled into the parking lot because the building is unremarkable but we are all so glad we came! Hubby and I ordered the senior meal with two catfish fillets and he had Cole slaw and I had fries. The catfish was delicious and served hot and crispy. The homemade roumalade sauce was a great addition. Our daughter ordered the salad off of the lunch menu u with blackened salmon. Nice owner, The food taste like farm raised products. Not wild caught like someone would want to put into there body. It's fried in seed oil thats bad for you. The owner has done a great job with Facebook, his sides are good for stuff out of a can he doctors up. Fresh fish in Abilene is hard to find because of location. We were driving across the state on our way to the west coast. We stopped in looking for a good meal that was not fast food. We came in about 30mins before closing and we were greeted by the host and taken to our table. The restaurant furniture is a bit out dated and but clean. The service was great although we felt rushed as they were cleaning up all around us. The most important part of our visit was the food which was excellent.
