I live around the block and walk by this place twice a day. Small, understated and quiet, m.a.e. offers vintage and luxury consignment at competitive prices. The shop carries dresses, both casual and dressy which are organized by color. You can find some real gems here. I've gotten lucky with high end skirts and sweaters. They are not as easily accessible as they are folded closet style and not hung like the rest of the clothes. Along the left side of the shop are shoes-any type you wish. There are also accessories including designer bags and sunglasses, scarves, jewelry. The only downside to this consignment shop is that you must make an appointment online to bring him clothes that you'd like to consign. Without knowing this I brought in several spring formal dresses and was turned away because I have not made an appointment and was told they were not accepting dresses at that time because they were at capacity (March). You know how when you find that shop with such great stuff you almost don't want to tell anyone because they might snag the best stuff when you're not there? Okay, I shouldn't tell my secret, but since I live in California but spend a lot of time in New York, I figure it's safe enough. And besides, I want the owner of this amazing treasure to keep it going for a long, long time. m.a.e. is a sweet little shop: on one wall is all designer clothes at inexpensive prices -- I understand it's all consignment, so really reasonably priced. Pucci, Chloe, Chanel, and even some classic Banana Republic thrown in, because it's all about style, too. Then the other wall: GASP. Shoes. Shoes. Shoes. In real girl sizes. Sure, there are size 5's and 6's, but also 8's, 9's and 10's. And oh, did i mention that they are mostly Manolos, Louboutins, Pradas, Cynthia Rowleys, Jimmy Choos... and for a fraction of the price? Yeah. Pretty dreamy. I never thought that I would own a pair of Manolos, but I now have 2 pairs, and for what I would have paid at Macy's for 9 Wests! I both consign and buy from M.A.E. I am a a designer consignment store expert in the NYC/CT area, as I have been doing it for years. I have in recent years decided only to consign with Marci at M.A.E. for two reasons. 1. Although I may get a little bit more money when I consign elsewhere I know the reason why is because things are being priced ethically at M.A.E. People who may otherwise not be able to afford a high end designer will have the opportunity to buy something special. Marci caters to both spectrums of the slope community. It is a inclusive and non-judgemental environment. 2. I try to buy secondhand as much as possible, and M.A.E. has been a wonderful resource, but for buying and selling. I've found everything from unique office/work clothes to cocktail dresses to jeans here. And I've also sold a few items too. The owner, Lucy, is wonderful and just loves to talk fashion, especially if it's not busy. Her eye is great -- perfectly in tune with the neighborhood. If you are looking for designer items with an edge, this is the place. It's a small shop, but that's also what I like -- Lucy has curated everything so you don't have to wade through racks of junk and old t-shirts. Highly recommended!! read more

This review is long overdue. I have been a customer and partner in M.A.E.'s consignment set up for a couple of years. This is just a gem of a store. I wouldn't call myself an consignment expert but I would spend hours in various high end vintage and consignment stores in Manhattan during my single, free years. M.A.E. is up there. Lucy is the owner and extremely knowledgable, fair, and just easy to chat with. She has a great eye for fashion and great selections of mid to high end designers. Her inventory is extremely organized and she will help you find exactly what you need. As a personal preference I love the size of the store...It's on the smaller side which means that Lucy much choose wisely her consignment choices. Just wonderful. I'm giving 5 star because it covers exactly what I expect in a store like this. read more

I ended up with a check for $45. She does not answer her phone ever. I sent her an email. She called me and told me my take was 35%. She is a liar and deceiver. I hesitate to tell y'all about this one, lest you snake me for the good stuff... but it's ALL good stuff! Designer labels, oftentimes brand new, marked waaaay below retail. The staff is helpful but not pushy, and they're always spinning my favorite tunes. I have a chronic vintage shopping addiction, so after imbibing multiple margaritas at Fondo, I staggered down the street to Mae. These ladies were endlessly patient and ridiculously lovely while I tried on half the store. I've only ever had customer service this good at Collections in Bushwick, see my review for the gorgeous Lucy who owns it. I went here for the first time just to briefly look around and ended up purchasing 10 designer items for only around $195, which actually valued between $500-$600. This place is an absolute gem of South Slope and has a great selection of affordable and trendy clothing/shoes/bags/etc. The service is excellent and I HIGHLY recommend this place to anyone who is fashion-forward, but also not trying to put a dent in their wallet. I bought a really sweet top for $10 and the collection of items had great prices! There a nice little fitting room to try on the finds. I spot Chanel, Henri Bendel, and Louboutins (might be gone now) But I was there two weeks ago! She is really sweet and has a great store! I look forward to going again this weekend or the next again! Love this store and they just moved one block south into a bigger location, with two dressing rooms and twice the merchandise! They have great stuff - mostly dresses and shoes, but also skirts, sweaters, blouses, purses, sunglasses and some pants. To the reviewers who said that it was expensive, I say, only if your idea of a thrift store is weeding out the stained clothes in the 5$ bin. This place has beautiful vintage pieces, designer pieces and more modestly priced basics - but everything is well below retail and thoughtfully selected. e.g. I got a Ralph Lauren wool shift dress for 60$ and a practically new peasant blouse for $30. Her shoes are fantastic and unusual - I have gorgeous, vintage yellow, wood platform, t-strap sandals for $40 from here. read more

I love this store! It's very clean and well organized. So far there's a different girl working each time I'm there but they're all helpful and easy to talk to as I'm searching through the racks. I have yet to be disappointed. My only suggestions would be to include a measurement chart for shoes and maybe an increase the amount in more flat shoe options as not all of us ladies can walk in heels. :) read more

This place has a really nice, carefully edited selection of luxury designer shoes (a whole wall of Manolos etc!), a smaller selection handbags (Furla, Tods, etc.), and a really nice mix of clothes ranging from Betsey Johnson to Chanel, etc..
