About 3 years ago, my family and I got on the list to have our couch and 2 hi-back chairs re-done. M&M had re-upholstered our dining room tables and we were quite pleased. So I'm not sure what happened. They explained the backlog was about 6 months. So I put down $50 cash to hold a place for the following spring and spent a week looking through their fabric books. We picked out some great fabrics. Well, 6 months came and went. A year came...and went. And so on. Both my daughter and I tried calling and emailing them. We never heard a word back. We still haven't. I have no clue what happened. We were returning customers who had a positive experience. I'd recommended them here on Yelp and to friends. OK, this review is for a couple chairs that Tony & Maria re-upholstered for us (back in 2017 -- apologies for such a late review, but I got distracted.) Tony schlepped the chairs out of our house, then when they were done, delivered them to our new apartment. KUDOS to the guy who can manhandle such things with ease. The fabric selection process was fun; Maria knows her stuff. The chairs were returned in EXCELLENT condition, and to this day (3+ years later) look great. This was a strip-it-to-the-bone job (new padding, new fabric) on some classic, swiveling club chairs that I inherited from my folks -- they have sentimental value as well as now being super comfy. Tony & Maria run a great business! I had a unique, family heirloom chair that needed all forms of transformation and this was my first upholstery experience. Tony explained the process over the phone and happily answered my lengthy list of questions. I took the chair to them and he welcomed the challenging project with confidence and curiosity. No upcharge for its complexity or the cat pee smell either, which I thought was very generous. They have literally 1000s of fabrics to choose from in all price ranges, and Tony was very helpful guiding me from infinity to what worked with my carpet and paint samples. He estimated 3 weeks, it was done in 2 1/2. Maria did all the handiwork and as you can see by the photos, it is incredible craftswomanship. It looks like it came off the factory floor yesterday, despite its frame and design being built in the 60s. I have been dragging around this sad chair from residence to residence for over 30 years. My mom gave it to me, and after a couple of decades she lamented that I would never get it done. But she's coming to visit, so I decided to finally do something about it. I got a couple of bids and based on the Yelp reviews of M&M, I decided to take a chance with them. You can see the dramatic transformation done by Tony and his lovely wife and the crew, I made an excellent decision. Every aspect of the chair was is poor shape: the exposed wood, the stuffing, the frame and of course, the covering. They transformed it from a literal garage mouse nest to a living room showpiece. If you've read any reviews about M & M Upholstery, then it will be no surprise that I also had a wonderful experience with them. I recently moved to Happy Valley and installed some cabinets in our living room as well as a window seat. I knew that I would need to order a custom cushion for the window seat, so I went on Yelp! and found that Tony and Maria were located nearby. I sent Tony a photo of my window seat, and he responded with a price estimate within 10 minutes. He gave very clear directions about what I needed to do next: send him measurements, choose fabric (either of my own choice or from their selection), and choose the foam and style of stitch. I decided to purchase my own fabric, which I brought into their shop. From there, he asked for my preference regarding foam and stitch and then told me it would be ready within two weeks. Two weeks was exactly right! We picked up the window seat cushion today (photo posted), and we're pleasantly surprised that they made two pillows out of the extra fabric. So sweet of them! I will definitely go back to Tony and Maria for any other upholstery needs. My only recommendation is that it would be helpful if there was a sign at the end of the road so that it is easy to find them the first time around. read more

A year and a half ago we bought some leather to recover a chair from m and m. we decided to try dyeing it instead but kept the leather as a courtesy. we went back to m and m to have the work done and on June 30th, 2022 gave "Tony" a $200 deposit and he told us Feb or march for the work. I started calling him in April and he has been putting me off with excuses and "just one more job ahead of you" on 5 calls back since then. On Sept. 19th Tony agreed to refund my money as he could give me no idea when, if ever, he was willing to do this work. on Sept 24th a box arrived with the leather that he sold me and is useless to me and a check for $200. Maria made an outdoor umbrella for me with just an old one that was worn out as the pattern. I had to cut it off the frame, which is permanently attached to our house, so that she could use it as a guide to seeing the new one. It wasn't even something that was "replaceable" but I came to M & M and they tackled the job. Maris is very talented. The work was done with great craftsmanship. The only caution is that you must not be in a hurry as the whole thing took almost a year. With the exception of making a few adjustments for fitting due to miscalculations on sizing in creating the pattern, it's a perfect umbrella. All the credit to Maria! read more

An absolute pleasure to work with! We had three vintage chairs and a vintage sofa we needed reupholstered and we made a number of calls around the Portland area trying to find someone that would use all-natural and period-appropriate materials for the pieces and they were one of the only companies willing to do it and the only company that quoted a reasonable rate. We took the four pieces to their shop and they worked with us to select fabrics from their books for two of the chairs and gave us yardage requirements for the couch and remaining chair that we wanted done in Pendleton Wool. The couch was going to be a prominent part of our living room so we wanted it done right and they did just that. They completely rebuilt/retied the original springs, used natural horsehair for the cushions, covered that in cotton, and expertly worked with the patterned Pendleton fabric to create an amazing showpiece. They even reworked the back of the accompanying chair to match the button pattern of the sofa. When the pieces were ready they even delivered them to our home in Vancouver and surprised us with a few matching throw pillows and even an ottoman for one of the chairs! I dropped off 4 chairs in the beginning of June to be reupholstered. I was told it would take 2-3 months as they are very busy. In August, I texted asking how my chairs were coming along and was told they couldn't get the fabric I wanted. I looked it up online myself and said I could order it and have it delivered, but needed to know how many yards of fabric to order. After no response, I asked again. Also, no response. Finally, I said I preferred to get my deposit back and pick my chairs up. Which I just did. Not once did they apologize or acknowledge the inconvenience and lack of communication. read more
