So I called and talked to Beth the owner. She was so personable and positive. Even when I mentioned my son who has Down Syndrome and how he needed structure. She assured me he would do well there and they were completely accepting of any child no matter their differences. This alone made me shout inside. Loved the acceptance and they proved this right! When starting there five years ago -my daughter was a beginner and my son was in hip hop only. They loved it immediately! Teachers so supportive and encouraging. Good structure of classes and as a teacher in a high school I appreciated that. My daughter would come home and brag about Miss Brooke and how she was her favorite teacher- still does. In five years, I have never had to make them go to dance. They tell me when it is time to leave. Now, my daughter is still in classes and also is on the dance team. she has gotten so good- they have scores and has improved so much in three years of team. My son is still in classes for hip hop and loves it. I cannot stress enough the positives that have come out especially since in quarantine but Miss Allix, Miss Janelle, Miss Brooke, Miss Beth, Miss Rachel, Mr. Miguel and Me. Robert- I cannot say enough about the staff. Miss Becky, Miss Taryn, and Miss Kaitlin for also subbing for my kids. using online teaching and keeping them busy as well by still focusing on technique! I could not ask for a better staff. My daughter and my Son absolutely enjoy going there. The shows are wonderful and so well organized. I always help because I enjoy helping Madelyn and helping the studio for all they have done to be this positive force. Doing online classes and having lunch with our kids during this time of quarantine. I can not say enough about this studio. Even the receptionists are so helpful and polite when needing anything. Thank you to everyone that pushes my daughter - and encourages my daughter and son to enjoy, motivate, encourage, and being such a role model to my kids. If you are looking for a studio for your family-THIS IS THE ONE! They even allow you to try a class before enrolling to make sure you like it. Now that is amazing! I feel like part of a family there. Honestly, the only regret we have regarding ADA is that we didn't find it sooner. Shortly after starting here and experiencing the caliber of instruction they provide, our daughter was thrilled with the immediate improvements in her dancing. I was thrilled as well, but also a tad miffed at myself that we had wasted so much of her time/ our money for so long elsewhere. She had previously been commuting from Naperville to Chicago to a studio where she was treading water in a sea of talent. If you were not one of the top dancers in the room, you were lost. Under 1 of the instructors ( half of her time there), she only learned by listening to the corrections she gave to the "really good girls" (my daughter's words ). She loved it there, but we didn't know how much better things could be. When quarantine happened and commuting wasn't an option, we looked locally and found ADA; it was less expensive and so close to our home in Naperville and seemed too good to be true. As a nurse, I was nervous about her starting back in a studio full of kiddos huffing and puffing during Covid (pre-vaccine) but was amazed at the level of precautions in place. The studios at ADA are beautiful: spacious, new, and clean. They had thought of everything to keep the students safe and dancing back in the studio again rather than the sometimes necessary zoom dancing (which ADA also executed really well). Sherry Moray, the founder and Artistic Director, saw our daughter's potential but immediately recognized some habits she had developed that had never been corrected. Sherry quickly got to the root of problems that had been challenging our daughter for years, and she began to improve dramatically. Sherry, Irina, and Diana are amazing instructors who continued to fix the cracks in the foundation and challenge her in new ways, all in a manner that built her up. They believed in her, and that helped her to believe in herself. So much of succeeding in dance comes down to confidence, and that is what made the change exponential. ADA has a family/ community feel, and the staff was/ is truly invested in my daughters' best interests. Louise (Studio Manager and fellow dance mom) was amazing in helping our daughter navigate a new studio and the world of competitions. She's an incredible resource and a kind person. Sherry frequently checked in with our daughter regarding her future plans and what she thought would be best when it came to auditioning, etc. Their expertise was invaluable, but the staff's level of caring and investment was such a pleasant surprise and something which I believe to be a rarity. Our daughter has been dancing for 15 years, and we have experience with 4 different dance studios, never has she grown as much as she has in these past 2 years at ADA. It has truly been such a great experience!

First off, the dancing was fine. The teacher did a great job with the kids. I am not blaming her. When the studio re-opened in June, we received a letter explaining how the studio was handling keeping our children safe. It went from mandatory masks, which is the only reason I agreed to let my daughter go back, to student preference If they wanted to. It was over the limit of 10 people and no social distancing. The teacher didn't even set the example to wear a mask during class. Only a few girls wore a mask period. As I sat and watched the kids come out of the building after class, parents and children weren't wearing masks. It was a free for all. The last straw was the "recital." We were specifically told only 1 person per child could attend , again that rule wasn't enforced. I had my husband waiting in car while I went in and watched. Karyn, the owner, said she sent put a revised email the day prior, which I didn't receive. There were 22 people in a room yesterday watching with no social distancing at all. The number involved singing, which the governor has banned without a mask, and they were told to sing as loud as they could. If you are AT ALL concerned with protecting your children and keeping everyone safe, I would not recommend this studio. Maybe when this pandemic ends, it'll be a different story.

Originally just my now-4 year old was enrolled in weekly intro to dance lessons (she started summer of 2016 and kept it going year round), but since my almost 2.5 year old was dying to get in on the action, I now have two dancers. Well, let's be honest, the little one does more hopping than dancing but whatever. The good news is that Dorothy's is affordable and the teachers seems enthusiastic. The studio itself is pretty bare bones - a narrow front lobby of sorts with three screens showing the dancers in action, one restroom, and a open locker room/shoe change area. While the main office has snacks and drinks for sale, there's not a water fountain in sight nor is there an alternative to the single restroom if you have to change/change your child. Communication from the studio is regular and consistent and prices for dance gear seem on par with Amazon. While I wish my daughters' recital costumes didn't cost an arm and a leg, it is what it is. Viva la Dorothy's.
