Because Good News is situated in the heart of Soho, where all of London's hippest fashion houses, production companies and media firms are generally based, it needs to offer it's clients something different. Sure, you can get the usual paper, a juice and a bag of crisps but I've never seen so many magazines. If your looking for fashion, music, business or art, they have every single commercial, weird and underground paper and magazine you can imagine and even stock some industry mags as well like Music Week for example. Capital newsagents are well set up and cover every aspect you'd expect from newsagent. They have an excellent array of daily press and monthly magazines, the fridge is stocked full of drinks, there's a massive amount of sweets, whilst in the back you'll find an impressive amount of stationary, cards and wrapping paper. The owners are often overly agressive and generally unnerving to deal with. I personally avoid Oxford Street at all costs for this reason. Amongst the slew of garbage souvenir shops to be found in London, Destefanis is a gem. Relatively unassuming from the outside (where postcards are on sale for 1Pnd, 50P, and 5P (!!!) ), the shop is filled with reasonably priced trinkets, post cards, knicknacks, sweets, newspapers, and magazines. The shopkeepers are sweet people who are friendly and helpful, and very pleasant to interact with. The next time you need a tiny red bus to bring home to a friend at Christmas, Destefanis is your best bet.

I ordered ice latte with oat milk, which is pretty impressive as I didn't expect much anyway. It's quite "milky" but since it's plant based, it doesn't make my stomach suffer from digesting the drink (like I usually have to). I like the ratio of coffee and milk in my latte, the drink tastes creamy but neither of the flavor is overpowering. Overall it is a chill, warm, and cozy local cafe. It's also a good spot for 2-3 people to sit down and chat on weekend afternoon!

You look around and see Penguin Titles mugs and 5 pounds of the Mighty Boosh Book (not sure if this is a desirable book to acquire or not, you decide). It's not big, but not too tiny, and is independently owned and operated. They carry all the latest fiction and non-fiction, and not just the best-sellers, either. They do special topical displays. Yesterday was a rack of about 10 books about finance and the global economic crisis. They have a large section of Jewish books, catering to the local demographic. Their sale/discount section is one of the best I've seen. It's a couple of shelves near the back, and one right under the cash counter, but they're not the typical cheapo books you see in those sorts of bins. Like a portal to another world. You go down Hanbury Street, think you must've missed it and then...suddenly it's there. Stylish black shopfront with a nice inviting glow. This was only a very quick visit but I like how they do things in Libreria. First, I have to note that there was a Riga RP-1 record player with Velvet Underground & Nico on the turntable so...good start. No espresso bar here. No mobiles allowed. Comfy seating and little nooks to sit down and check out a book. Tick tick tick. Sally, Libreria's director, introduced herself to me and explained how things were laid out. Very friendly and helpful. Books are largely organised alphabetically, fiction on the left and nonfic on the right. However, within that, books are clustered into themes or ideas, in order to promote interesting combinations of books nestling next to each other. Great idea. Pure A-Z is so 2015. Also, they have asked celebs to do a mini-curation of their favourite books. Shami Chakrabarti's faves are currently on display. I think the idea is to change everything round every quarter. Events are also gonna happen here. I dutifully added my email to the mailing list on the front desk. Waterstones can do one.

I love how comfortable it is there. Whenever my friends and I go study we are never bothered by anyone. The coffee is also great! It's the perfect mix between bitter and sweet that I love. But the set-up - floor to ceiling bookcases creating a mini-warren of Nihon literature, anime and periodicals - is worth popping in to for the experience alone - very 'dépaysant', to borrow a phrase from across the channel. Its a second hand Japanese bookstore, within an ex-launderette, and with karaoke rooms in the back! I can't say much about the bookstore, but everyone else seems thrilled with the selection there. What I can vouch for are the karaoke rooms in the back! I can't quite remember how much it costs per hour, I think it undercuts a few of the major chains. Reservations require a deposit up front (I believe you have to go to the store to do this). The rooms are really cramped, but what better way to spend time with a bunch of people, screaming at the top of their lungs, than to be squished up against one another?? This place is awesome for a number of reasons: - good selection of English and Japanese songs - BYOB (they have a mini bar fridge for you to keep your stuff cool, and there's a Co-Op around the corner) - You can bring your own snacks and hot food, as long as its nothing too strong smelling Definitely one of the best finds I've stumbled into!
