Stay away. I'm sure Jane is a very capable attorney, but she's going to kick the majority of your case to her daughter Meredith, who made the incredible mistake of following her mother into the field. She's a crappy lawyer, and seems to know it. She is timid, and appears weak in front of opposing counsel and spent more time trying to make nice with opposing counsel than she did trying to argue my case. When I told her I had concerns about the direction the case was going in, she got upset and suggested I find another lawyer... so I did, and the case turned right around. Avoid at all costs. Didn't realize just how bad it was until I hired a better, though more expensive attorney. Do yourself a favor and cough up the extra money for a good one, because you get what you pay for. read more

Our Firm founder and lead attorney is Bristol's own Municipal Court Judge (2006-present) and seasoned attorney, Jane Fearing Howlett, who has been practicing law since 1987. Jane has been active in the Rhode Island Family Court for the last 30 years, and is the Chairperson of the Family Court Bench Bar Committee and has held the position for the past 14 years. Jane has served on numerous committees within the Rhode Island Family Court, such as the Committee to rewrite the Domestic Rules of Procedure, the Committee to review the Rhode Island Child Support Guidelines and the Permanency Committee.
