Up until we reached the Gun Range counter, every staff member we interacted with had been welcoming, respectful, and genuinely pleasant. Unfortunately, that changed the moment we spoke with the employee at the Gun Range counter -- the one with ginger-colored hair. When he asked whether it was our first time shooting, I answered honestly that it was my first time. My husband also mentioned that our friends would be arriving shortly and that one of them, who teaches Senior MilitaryTactical Fire Arm Instructor for 19 years would be helping us. Instead of responding professionally, the employee made an unnecessary and disrespectful comment. He said, first, that it was "freaking awesome," but then immediately followed it with, "people in the military are the worst shooters we've ever encountered." Our friends haven't even arrived yet. That statement alone was aggravating, unprofessional, and completely out of line. He didn't even see or talk to our friend before making that judgment. It was insulting not only to our friend's service but to anyone who has served. His tone and attitude were dismissive and condescending from that point forward. It is completely unacceptable for a man who has risked his life in service to this country to be spoken about or to be belittled in such a manner. He then turned to me and said he was "honestly concerned" that this was my first time shooting -- speaking to me as if I were a child rather than an adult customer. I already struggle with confidence, and his approach was unnecessary, rude, and completely inappropriate for someone working in a customer-facing environment. Instead of making me feel safe, informed, or supported, he made me feel judged and talked down to. When I entered the gun range, the same employee who had already made unnecessary comments about it being my first time shooting continued to behave unprofessionally. He stood there staring at me and making a face that was clearly judgmental and unwelcome. His demeanor made me extremely uncomfortable. I ended up firing only one round before deciding to leave because the environment he created did not feel respectful, supportive, or appropriate for a first‑time shooter. What makes this even more disappointing is that my husband was planning to take classes there and buy his guns. After this interaction, it's clear that this employee needs to be addressed. His attitude, his comments, and the way he speaks to customers are unacceptable. He needs to be reminded of what professionalism looks like and how to treat people with basic respect. I would also like to note our interaction with the second gentleman who approached the counter. He was very polite and spoke to us in a respectful, reassuring manner. When I mentioned that the previous employee's behavior had made me feel nervous, he responded by saying, "Oh yeah, he's a ginger -- he's just like that. He's not as bad as he seems." Although he was kind in his approach, his attempt to excuse the earlier unprofessional behavior was inappropriate and did not address the underlying concern. Since I am aware that your facility has a history of reviewing camera footage to justify an employee's behavior, I want to clarify what was occurring at that moment. After the employee's inappropriate comment, my husband was simply trying to talk to me and lighten the mood because he could see that I was uncomfortable and upset. His intention was to reassure me, not to escalate the situation. He was simply trying to calm me down and reminded me not to let an employee's overinflated ego interfere with my ability to enjoy the experience. I would find any response that deflects accountability for your employees actions is unacceptable and disrespectful to our Men and Women of our Military.

My wife brought me to GUNTRY for my birthday, and it was an awesome experience from start to finish. We kicked things off with a simulation session, which was so cool. I am already planning to do it again. The shock pack that zaps you when you get hit is wild. It is a little crazy, but honestly really fun to try. We spent an hour at the range afterward. It is definitely loud and a bit tight, but it gets the job done. The staff was friendly, patient, and very helpful the whole time. The retail shop is huge too, with tons of firearms and accessories to browse. We ended the night at their cigar and whisky event, and that was a great time. The whisky was strong and plentiful, and dinner was delicious. It was all catered in house by the cafe. Pricing is pretty reasonable overall. Their lesson rates seem lower than a lot of other places I have seen, although I have not had a chance to take one yet. My only complaint is that I wish it were closer. I live in DC, so it is definitely a trek, but it was worth the drive.

My comments apply to both. Mark Briley (Capital Defense Instruction LLC) and George Lyon (DC Learn to Shoot) did an outstanding job with their tag-team style of instruction. From the beginning, the Capital Defense website for course registration was easy to navigate, and the various classes are offered regularly, making the entire sign-up process a breeze. The classroom instruction was excellent, with both instructors able to offer insights and tips based on their vast personal knowledge and experience. Both were able to deliver a common sense approach to self-defense, going beyond just the required curricula and legal aspects and explain in plain language how to think about various self-defense scenarios. The live-fire range test was equally satisfying, with a flexible scheduling process and Mark providing helpful insights, tips, and encouragement during the actual live fire. I plan to return for my required renewal training in the future.

Want to start out by saying "Thank you PTP". I currently own my own firearms that I purchased prior…read moreto the Maryland legislation act for "Regulated Firearms". I did this as I was informed incorrectly mind you, that IF you purchased your "regulated" firearm you would be grandfathered in. Meaning I would not need to take any additional courses. I thought, great. Well I have since come to find out that you do indeed need to have additional hand gun courses if you want to purchase a hand gun. All this law does is make the general law abiding Maryland resident put out more money to the state. This law will and has not stopped any criminal from doing what they want. With all that being said, let me tell you my opinion on the HQL (Hand gun Qualification License) Class I took on Saturday in Callaway, Maryland with PTP and Ryan Gass and all his fellow PTP staff.. The day starting out wonderfully, it was a normal July day, nice and humid. I got there around 7:45 for the 8am class, got in line, signed in and had a seat. Ryan came in and said we would be holding off for just a few minutes to let some last minute people to either finish signing in or to show up. Which is nice that he was willing to hold off for a few minutes, you never know what traffic can be like. About 8:10 we started, I figured (like most) here we go, time to just keep my eyes open and not fall asleep, boy was I wrong, Ryan was great, he was polite, funny and most important engaged and very informative. Yes, I already knew a lot just from being around guns, but I have to admit, I did learn a lot too. Every question was answered directly and towards the group and all the questions that where asked, he was able to answer without hesitation. The class was less than 8 hours long including a couple of breaks and lunch (provided I might add). During the class one of the things you need is to have finger printing done, this is required to obtain your HQL in Maryland and PTP had a person on site to do it, HQL also required at a minimum a single shot from a fire arm. I was thinking to myself, there are a lot of buildings around here and I know darn well, PTP knows they can't do that here, so I figured we would all have to finish the class and meet some place to do the shot, NOPE, they have a system set up to where the shot can be done on sight and well in all the laws. Very cool. I would tell anyone that wants to get their HQL to contact PTP and get your training through them for a few of reasons. 1. Very knowledgeable 2. They come to your area, vs. having to drive all over who knows where 3. Friendly staff 4. Small classes 5. Lots of guns to tryout (if you sign up) 6. Prices are not going to break your bank.

Nearly all 5 stars so I decided to give it a shot. My first experienced was signing up. The webpage is clean and easy to navigate. I used the live chat for questions and the owner Will responded in real time (not some automated bot). Five stars for the website! My wife went first for an HQL. She is shy and never held a gun. I was nervous about her going alone. Will, said he would take good care of her. She came home beaming with pride. SHE DID IT! She said Will was very kind and patient. She said she loved the course. So we went and bought her her first firearm (S&W Equalizer 9mm). Now me. I went next for a wear/carry on 6/24, 6/25. I only own a 357 revolver. Will was gracious enough to let me use one of his personal semi-autos. I am not implying he does this for everyone. You are expected to bring your own firearm and should, but he graciously made an exception. His resume was impressive. I liked the fact we both did Basic Training and AIT at Ft. McClellan Ala. and were both MP's. You could tell from the opening moments of instruction he was prepared. He had a nice blend of mixing the formal PPT material with classroom interaction and hands on exercises to keep the students engaged. I appreciate this since I was an instructor on US ARMY Depo's for many years. I am a vet. I could have skipped the training with my DD-214, but I am sure glad I did not! Will taught me about things I was not aware of, from tactical techniques, to laws, to how to apply for my permit. Well worth my time and money. Never once felt "bored". I have six pages of notes crammed with important information from the sessions. On the range, I felt comfortable and safe. He took command of the range. I scored 100% I shook his hand and left. I will use him again for recertification for sure. Oh, I forgot to mention his wife is available right in the classroom for you fingerprinting needs. Trophy to Will.
