If you go to this pub for drinks, you'll might be ok. If you want food, go elsewhere. Me and my wife went to get mozzarella sticks for an appetizer and a wrap and a hamburger for the main course. It took an hour to get to mozzarella sticks after getting multiple updates that they should be out shortly, then they told us the order never got input into the system. The food all came together and the food was not good, it may have tasted better with how long they kept us waiting and it was still not good. After talking to the manager we got a third story that they had a new chef all alone cooking and apparently that was the reason but never GOT ANY COMPENSATION BACK OR ANYTHING TO ACCOMMODATE other than some pistachios. Management was mean to the other servers and customers while we watched waiting for food and does not care for anyone it seems like. Worst dining experience I've ever had, don't go here unless you want to just drink. read more

I will say it's already questionable on my part to go to an "Irish" bar in Italy but to be unkind to actual paying customers is next level. I wouldn't recommend this bar to any American customers. Terrible service. The bar manager is bald with a receding hairline and a tiny little three stand pony tail . If you're American avoid this place AT ALL COSTS. And I hope to god the manager and the staff never visit America and if they do they're treated with the rudeness they greeted us with. Don't waste your time or money. Very sad being back home in America the Irish pubs are always welcoming and lovely especially in heavily Irish first gen places. This place is embarrassing to my families home country of Ireland. After five weeks in Italy we needed something other than pasta, pizza or risotto. This place was just what we needed and the food was tasty. Burger was very juicy, chicken curry had tons of white meat chicken and the chicken fingers were real chicken with a nice, crunchy breading. For those that know me I write quite lengthy reviews but this place does not deserve one. I tend to avoid Irish bars/British pubs abroad but we needed to use its electricity and toilet.We walked in and we received nothing but stink eye. I naturally thinking Italian beer would be cheap in well..Italy..he poured that and lime and soda..then claimed it was 10 euro..for a pint of beer and squash.. He was just dickish in his manner. My friends and I popped into Abbey's a couple weeks ago, during the day while on vacation. Michael was our bartender and he was HILARIOUS... Knew his stuff and was very entertaining. Rome was very overcrowded that day - we were all hot and annoyed, but we left Abbey Theatre feeling great and refreshed (with the help of some beer, of course!) We only walked in because it was around the corner from our air bnb. 1. They overcharged us - 3 beers was $40. 2. Then an extremely rude Canadian who identified himself as the "manager" claimed he did not want "our kind" in his establishment. You can't miss him - he has a receding red hairline and wears a ponytail that consists of 4 strands of hair. We are three American women. He turned us away from ordering a second round and took our current round and poured it on the bar. He then pushed the bar stool against me and pushed my other friend out of the way. 3. He appears to discriminate against Americans based on other reviews and if I was there with my men he probably wouldn't have walked out the front door that night with two legs after aggressively pushing women. If this is the behavior of the manager I feel very bad for the owner because clearly he doesn't care about ratings or money. Bars are in the money making business and this guy is definitely costing you money. Beware. It's mostly a joke of a bar and while in Rome tourists should be around friendly and welcoming Italians. This summer I spent a month in Europe and about 1 week in Rome. This was by far the favorite bar my buddies and I went to throughout the trip. Absolutely incredible service and conversations to be had with Darien- probably my favorite bar tender of all time (this guy deserves a promotion). Also, The Abbey has plenty of TV's inside and the people there are happy to turn on anything you would like to watch. We had some snacks from here as well, and they were good, but overall Darien really made this place what it is, and was the reason my buddies and I came to say hello everyday while in town! I wasn't too happy with this place after an awkward experience from one of the bartenders. It's the young female bartender with like acne in her face and blonde hair. I hate to give bad reviews but we ended up feeling really weird after two drinks that took forever. We never asked to close the tab and that bartender brought us our check to close out. Supposedly they were really "busy", which they were but we never saw other customers before us receiving their check. Then, she kept passing to see if we were finally done with our drinks. She never for once asked if we wanted more, yet was very helpful with other non American customers! There are multiple TVs showing different sports events (though usually football / soccer and rugby) and there is live Irish music on certain nights. Based on the fact that there was a bouncer at the door, I got the impression this place could get college-y or rowdy later in the night but we had a chill night evening watching American sports games and drinking beer. I have a love-hate relationship with the Abbey. I love it because it plays international sports. I mean around the world - basketball, football, American football, rugby, etc. I watched a Chicago Bears game here while eating steak fries with ketchup. The diversity of the crowd and the sports makes it fun. What I hate is also the crowds. Don't come here on a night a big team is playing against Roma in an away game. All the traveling fans get plenty liquored-up here and the atmosphere becomes rather unsavory. However, the Abbey is THE PLACE on St. Patrick's day in Rome if you must celebrate it. read more

'Cause everyone wants to go to an Irish bar when they're in Rome, right? Great atmosphere here, came here on a Tuesday night for karaoke and it was packed. Although that was because they were playing the Bayern vs Barcelona game. Once the game was over, me and about 20 others in our group were able to find places to sit. But overall, good atmosphere, fair drinks, and really fun to hang out in- especially if you're in a big group! I didn't come to Rome for a sports bar, but.......we were in Rome for the opening of US College Football weekend - so of course hubby had to see some of the games! Just walking around the old town area where we stayed, we saw little sights of TVs or anything resembling a "sports bar" - we stopped by another place that billed itself as a Pittsburgh Steeler/Penn State bar - well that was NOT a sports bar by any stretch of the imagination since they had one projection screen with a crap feed. Luckily another patron directed us to Abbey Theatre - easy to find, close to our hotel near Piazza Navona and located in the great area of Campo de Fiori. It is an Irish Pub no doubt. Lots of nice dark wood, that cozy atmosphere you get from an Irish Pub - but the place is actually quite large. LOTS of nice flat screen TVs for good viewing and direct feeds from sports stations. We were able to watch the Univ of Wisconsin football game. I also saw MLB game on another TV. Service was friendly and not rushed. Great beer and prices. We came here on the recommendation of a friend, who said it's THE place to go in Rome if you want to watch American sports. It does show all kinds of international sports, but we did NOT have a good experience here. The place was packed to the gills and was very busy. We were there for two hours and only had one drink because we just could not get anyone's attention, even though we were sitting right at the bar at first. When we were finally served, they didn't even know what a Half and Half is. We had to tell them, and then they mixed the layers instead of using a layering spoon. What kind of an Irish pub doesn't know how to pour a Half and Half? We then moved to a table in order to see our game better, and no waitress ever came by to see if we needed a refill. To top it all off, they were having reception problems getting our game. The action on the screen was in slow motion and even froze at times, so it was impossible to tell what was going on. We finally gave up and just left. Maybe the service at this place is better on a night when there's not a big game going on, so we might try it again.
