What a surprisingly great restaurant in such an unassuming location. We went for our Mom's birthday. We started with chips and salsa. If you like spice, you'll definitely like their salsa. If you don't like too much spice they have another option or one of the bottled salsas (i.e. Tapatillo). Then, we got the shrimp and octopus cocktail. My wife and I shared a medium serving but a small would have probably been enough because they don't skimp on the amount. It was so fresh and tasty. For my main meal, I got the Pablito burrito, which was basically a California burrito. I really enjoyed it because of the way they cook their carne asada. My wife had the fish taco and it was really good too. I can't wait to go back the next time I'm El Centro to visit Mom. The photos on Yelp don't do this place justice either. One of the nicer Mexican restaurants in Imperial County. Open for breakfast and lunch and closes at 7 now. Nice decor inside in-spite of being attached to Aten Express. Friendly service. These people are taking pride in what they're doing. Typical Mexican food, burritos etc with some unusual dishes like birria. Our burritos were made with homemade flour tortillas - delicious The chef sent over a sample soft taco for everyone at our table It was excellent The burritos can be customized with your choice of ingredients -think Chipotle. They also have hamburgers hotdogs and chicken strips for the rebels in your family who don't like Mexican food. This is a fairly new restaurant so they're still getting the kinks out. If you're looking for a better Mexican Food place to eat at, this is the one. I've passed this restaurant many times saying to myself, "one of these days I need to try that place out." Well, needless to say, today was that day. I had one of the days specials, shrimp quesidillas with a side of rice. Three corn tortillas stuffed, I mean stuffed, with grilled shrimp and cheese. The shrimp were small but tasty. Along with the shrimp came some salsa fresca and a habanero salsa. Both salsas were delicious. I will definitely continue not to pass this restaurant by and stop in more often. I highly recommend this place for those of you who are looking for a level up from the traditional mexican restaurants in the valley. read more

Soooo, I was hungry and it was close to lunch time. Since I only get a half hour lunch, I know, not enough time for anything, I decided to try this place. Called in my order, just a carne asada burrito "con todo," whatever that meant. It took me all of five minutes to go pick up my burrito and come back to the office. I love when my food is ready on time! Ok, the burrito was big, which made this fat boy happy. "Con todo" meant with beans, rice and salsa.. which i usually don't like in my burrito but what the hey, it was good. The tortilla was good too. After passing Ma Lupe's many, many times, my wife and I decided to give it a shot. We were pleasantly surprised. Had heard mixed reviews but were personally pleased with the service, portion size and taste of food. Prices are fair and meals are served promptly. There was some lack of organization as waiters went back and forth attending tables and assisting people with to-go orders and the register. The first time I went to this place, I didn't know any better. The 2nd time I was just stupid. Ok so, once I went there ordered a few burritos. The burritos had very little meat, was full of cabbage, and generally dry. Terrible food. The 2nd time I went was in the morning, ordered an oatmeal or something like that right off the menu. I literally waited over 30 minutes and was like the only table in there was me and my friend. After 30 minutes we left without even receiving the food. If it was gonna take that long for 1 oatmeal, I'd hate to see how that place is if it ever got actual customers. The waitress made this gesture like "oh my god you just made the fat cook work her ass off for 30 minutes making your oatmeal and now you are leaving without eating or paying for it????" Maybe they literally forgot about us and were just too ashamed to admit it. Horrible service and generally bad food. read more

I had been wanting to try this place because I had heard several rave reviews. I ordered a little bit of everything when I finally made it down. 1st off, carne asada fries....they weren't great. Sombrero's (next to the mall) has carne asada fries that are 10x's better. I can even make better at ones at home and have! The carne asada burrito...the only thing good about this was the homemade flour tortilla! Other than that it was, eehh. The special quesadilla had absolutely no flavour. Personally, I think Celia's has better. The Jamaica was WAY to sweet. It was obviously from concentrate. Antojito's has aguas frescas that are delicious. When I hear "home made", that's what I expect....for all the food to be home made, as well as the horchata and aguas. Maybe I went on a bad day, who knows. I will not be returning. My new favorite spot for great Mexican Food. Located on the corner of Aten Rd and Imperial Ave (right next to Aten Express). Had the best Horchata around. Had one of their combination plates w Chile relleno, enchilada, sope, taco, rice and beans. Food was beyond delicious. A big plus for me was the Excellent service and CLEAN environment. Awesome little marisco platter...well made. i will be back the gobernador tacos were also pretty bomb...only thing id recommend is larger portions because it isn't cheap but you don't feel robbed either. not bad for imperial...the best little mex restaurant around the valley. read more

My husband and I went on a Friday evening after work, I had been wanting to try it out for awhile, since I saw them advertise "fresh tortillas." Ended up ordering mariscos and everything was delicious, we had pulpo and shrimp dishes. We have been back several times since and I have recommended it to friends and co-workers, all who have been there have raves about the good food. Everything I have tried has been excellent. Wish the owners lots of success, they definitely have something special going on. Looking forward to my next dining experience at Ma Lupe's! read more
