In trying to find a particular vine around the Houston area via phone calls, I ran into some of the most abrupt, uninterested persons. Leon at Maas Nursery, however, was by far the acceptation. In our phone conversation, he mentioned he was not familiar with the vine right "off the bat", but asked for my name and phone number, the botanical name of the plant and said he would call me back after he had investigated. How incredibly nice of Leon to take time out of his day to research. He called back within 15 minutes and although he does not stock that plant, he was interested in the unusual vine which he was unfamiliar with, gave me tips on possibly getting it online and left me feeling as if THIS is the nursery I'd love to do business with in the future. Maas is amazing. I had innumerable and detailed questions for the plants and trees I was looking for and many of the employees went above and beyond for me. The layout of the nursery can be a bit overwhelming but it's so varied and the plants in such good health that I couldn't help spending hours here. They have several types of each plant and if they don't have something, they won't try to push you into anything. The owners knowledge of cultural importance of plants is evident in their products as well, ranging from statues, enormous pots, and exotic plants that are extremely hard to find. The nursery is kind of hidden but still in close vicinity of the city, essentially making it one of Houston's hidden gems well worth visiting. read more

I spoke with Maas Nursery concerning a rose bush I purchased from another vendor in which the other vendor is not wanting to assist me. Maas Nursery has asked me to send them the pictures and they are going to assist me. They did not have to help but I am so grateful for them helping me. This is by far the best nursery in the gulf coast, well that I've been too, kinda hard to go to every nursery. It is setup in such an original manner, it is as if you are visiting a public garden, amongst the many plants that they sell they have set up fountains, ornaments, pots and even planted trees growing amongst the ones for sale. All of their plants are blooming and thriving, they are in great shape, and they offer only plants that they know for a fact will thrive in the Texas gulf coast. It is a lengthy drive for people living in Houston but it is totally worth it. read more

Exotic and hard to find selection. Pricey, but High Quality. Knowlegable(?) staff. Great workshops. Great at helping to identifiy and address pests and biological issues with my citrus trees. Easy to track plants. Most if not all seem to be Texas grown. No complaints really. Id rather pay a bit more here for a higher quality plant. read more

This is an outstanding place! It's very large but very well organized and feels as if you are in an ancient garden. You cannot beat the pottery pieces, plants, wind chimes and bells and the service. Bring a compass and a lunch! You may need it! Well worth the visit whether you are passing through or live an hour away. read more

Maas Nursery is so amazingly zen and relaxing. Whether you're here to buy plants or just take a stroll around the nursery, this place is great. There is such a wide selection of plants and decor, and the scenery here is breathtaking. Every time I come here I feel like I'm on a peaceful island. The nursery also has classes that teach you how to care for certain plants, and they also have Sunday service here as well. What a giant plant paradise! This place is inspiring and will give you plenty of gardening ideas. I suggest you walk around and get lost among all of the trees and plants. It's like stepping into another world and can be a nice break from the stress of work. The best time to visit is obviously in the spring when everything is in bloom. This place is HUGE. You could easily spend your entire day exploring every nook and cranny. It's like your grandmother started a nursery in her youth and it ran wild while still under operation. There are amazing places to discover on the grounds with darling vignettes featuring statues, plants, mosses, stumps, you name it. Their selection of plants is crazy. They get in a large selection of roses in the spring, including, to my surprise, some David Austin roses. They also have a wide selection of culinary herbs and vegetable plants. I was happy to find some of my favorite heirloom varieties of tomatoes, including Cherokee Purple. The selection of bonsai trees is really nice. I know of no other selection like it. They also carry a lot of bonsai trays so that you can make your own. If you are looking for a fountain, look no further. They have free standing, disappearing, and hanging fountains. Do you need a decorative piece for your garden, like a tiger, panther, or velociraptor? They have those too. I also especially love the classroom area that is covered in beautiful benches which you can select from and take home. If you just want a nice, peaceful day to wander around in a lovely environment, this place will do the trick as well. You owe it to yourself to visit. read more

I went in today to find a tree for my front yard. There were several things I wanted in a tree so I asked a sales person for help,and I got friendly, helpful, information to all my question. There's no doubt that I will be back again. It's so refreshing to walk into a business and then leave after a totally enjoyable experience and a new tree. read more

I had been searching for "Pride of Barbados" for years in the Houston Area with out any luck. I did a search online and discovered Maas Nursery. I called and spoke to Carol. She was so helpful, professional and went to see personally if they had any left. Hurray, they only had 5 left. I asked if she would hold them for me because it would take me a couple of hours to get there. When I did, there they were with my name on them. Like all of the other great reviews, I can't imagine going any where else for planting material. They also have lots to select from as gift giving, Ideas to galore, and the staff, the most helpful, friendliness I've ever experienced. I wouldn't mind working there myself, but you know, I'd never get home with a pay check. hahah I trust their horticultural advise as to planting, how to mix plants etc.. Very very satisfied. I'll be back and will go no other place. Thanks Maas for being so great. A nice day trip, after enjoying the nursery, we drove to the end of Pinegully park and had a picnic too enjoyed the few of the view and gulf breeze. read more

A heavenly garden tucked cozily in the trees, a stone's throw from the Gulf of Mexico! It's been decades since I've visited a nursery that had so many plants, flowers, statuary and more. The setting is calm and the proprietors are welcoming! Prices are very reasonable in my experience, and I felt as if I should have packed a lunch, and just camped out in one of the beautiful sections. This is a review of the recent seminar I attended. The speaker was Loretta and she is a Plumeria expert. Friendly, knowledgeable and just absolutley full of information! She is a recognized expert in her field. I was so looking forward to her lecture and we had so many questions. Unfortunately, while she was giving her talk, the business owner kept rushing her and getting things off track. He was interrupting to give out prizes when people had their hands up to ask Loretta questions....he was totally distracting. It was even difficult to tell when the lecture was over as he invited everyone who hadnt had their name called to come up and grab a bag....Loretta never got to finsih her presentation. While he obviously knows his stuff this was not the place to try and show case it. Loretta was a 5 Star lecturer and this was a 3 Star experience. read more

This place is awesome and worth the drive! The staff is super helpful and will spend a lot of time helping you decide on plants and answering any questions you have. The prices are very reasonable and the plants seem high quality. They have everything!! It is a huge property but the staff will help guide you to what you need so that it's not overwhelming. This is one of my favorite places in Seabrook! They carry a huge variety of flowers and plants and the people are so friendly. Even if you are in the ideas or planning stages of your landscaping I recommend going and looking around. I got so many great ideas by just walking the place and seeing their layout and decor. It's just a great, peaceful place to visit and there is a gorgeous park near by. I definitely recommend this place! read more

Maas has a huge selection. I have been very satisified with all my purchases. I have bought several fruit trees and all are doing well.

I would have given this a "no" star rating, but it wasn't an option. My husband and I have been doing business with Maas for years without a problem. Today, I tried to return a honeysuckle plant that I bought a few weeks ago, and I was treated like an idiot. The woman in charge told me that there were a couple of new leaves on the plant and that I needed to go back home and replant it. She told me that I should have read the small print on the receipt that said to water it every day. I have never been treated with such disrespect and been made to feel so badly. Apparently, everything is fine with Maas, unless you have a problem. I wish I could upload a photo of the plant. And I am talking about a $30 plant! When I left there this morning, I was in tears after being treated the way I had been treated. I threw the plant in the trash. Even though Maas is close to our house, my business now goes back to Houston Garden Center, or even to Home Depot. They both have guarantees that far surpass Maas's.
