I will admit it here and now ... I am a Mac addict! I'm onto my third laptop, love my iPhone and have just discovered the joys of Apple TV. Occasionally though, even when you're a Mac geek things go wrong and you need to visit the even geekier Mac addicts. That's when the guys from Mac Alert come in handy. They know their Macs and their not frightened to use their knowledge. Mac Alert have recently moved into new premises on South Road at Edwardstown and they're now opposite the Avoca Hotel. Business must be going well for these guys because they have significantly upsized their shop. I have my eye on a 27" iMac in Mac Alert store at the moment. I think they understand that people like me come in a few times before they actually make a purchase. At least I hope they do, if not I apologise for visiting your shop so often. read more

Not owning a Mac myself, I walked into this store with a friend who was about the purchase one, and neither of us had any prior Mac knowledge to work with. Luckily for us, the staff at Mac Alert were really great and helped explain it all to PC users (or traitors as they would commonly call us) like us. The store was modern and spacious and has a huge range of every kind of apple product you could ever think you would need. The best thing about the staff was the way they didn't force us into buying anything we didn't need in terms of extra hard drive space or accessories and when they did, didn't insist on the most expensive version. As we had zero Mac knowledge this was so helpful because we would have had no idea if we were getting ripped off or being sold equipment and accessories we didn't need. Flashy store, but crap service. Being in the industry I suggested them to a few clients needing Mac gear. Not any more after the negative feedback I got. So I thought I'd test myself and help a client. Just wanted to confirm a replacement power supply would fix a flat battery in a Macbook. All too hard. After waiting 5 minutes in an empty shop, they wouldn't sell me one without a service fee. WTF! As others have said go elsewhere if you want service. Try Marion David Jones or even JB HIFI that has better service and way better price. read more

Went in for a software upgrade and was sold a total hardware and software diagnosis for $99. Diagnosis failed to detect non-operational CD/DVD drive and keyboard backlighting. When I queried the CD diagnosos I was told it was a 'presence only' test! I already knew it was there, I thought I was paying $99 to find out what was wrong with it. The test didn't even detect that it was faulty! read more

Took my Mac Book to them after some software cause it to only start up in safe mode.Was charged $99 and told that the hard drive needs to be changed for between $279 to $1549 depending on what new hard drive I brought.They could attempt to retrieve data for an extra $300 but with no promise that they would be successful. So I took the machine away and a friend who is a diesel mechanic went through it and un installed everything else that had been installed the day that the installed software infected the machine,lo and behold everything is working fine.I had uninstalled the software that caused the problem but didn't realise that it sneaks other software in as well.So the Lads at Mac Alert are either incompetent or dishonest either way steer clear of them.They are very friendly but what did I pay $99 for? read more

I have been there twice for 2 separate repairs. Both times their service has been friendly and efficient. No need to make appointment's and free parking right out the front of the store. read more
