With many new flavours, the brand spanking new location is on acres and acres of their farmland right off Highway/Trunk 1; big black building, you can't miss it! The cider is what you come for. It's on tap or try a flight if you're not ready to commit to an entire glass. Bringing the kids? No problem, there's an ice cream take out window out back and doughnuts are available Thursday to Sunday. LOTS of room for them to run around the muddy fields (for now) or over into the sunflower patch. Sit outside on the back deck or under the picnic shelter. There's also seating inside if you're not into the Valley heat/humidity. There's lots of work still going on here but this is also a wonderful market with fresh produce and lots to offer. Free parking on site but this place gets packed quickly and parking spots are tougher to find. Looks like there will be a lot more expansion here as they only just opened to the public a week ago. One very special thing about Hennigars is that it's open 7 days a week all year round. True, there is less produce in the winter, but it's still treat to visit. And you can always pick up some of their homemade apple cider - direct from their apple orchard. Right next door, on their farm you'll find some great parkland and trails to hike all summer long. Everyone was so kind - especially if you get lost! They gave out maps to help show you were the varieties of apples were. The hay ride was a blast - and surprisingly long! They helped people with strollers and trouble walking up and had no trouble with any of it. Definitely one of my favourite apple picking experiences! They've got beautiful local greens and fruits, your regular convenience items, an interesting little garden shop and array of yard statues (including the strange and mythical cow pig!), but where they really shine is the ice cream. There's about 20 different flavours including Grizzly Tracks, Blueberries and Cream, and Maple Nut. The portions are plentiful and the taste is just divine. So when you're passing through, make sure you stop, grab a few scoops, and luxuriate at the picnic tables for a few minutes. I certainly will.

Located less than an hour outside of Halifax, in Windsor, is the Dill Family Farm - famous, around the world - for their giant pumpkins. But lucky for those of us without acres of land and a forklift, their pumpkins come in all shapes, sizes and weights. And while yes, you can get a pumpkin for the same price from your local grocery store, there is something magical about being able to walk in a pumpkin patch and have a love at first site moment, with a gourd. The Dill Family Farm also has local apples and is on record as having the pond where the first game of hockey was played. In 2012 I noticed they have an admisison fee for the first time, which they refund upon purchase. And believe me, you will purchase.
