I purchased lipstick from this store and one of the sales associates separately assisted me and a group of tourists from Europe. I noticed when the associate assisting tourists, she actually gave them the item they wanted. However, when she assisted me, she decided to take the item to the counter instead of placing in my hand like she did with the tourist group. Therefore, I was not treated equally as the associate must have assumed I would steal the item. This treatment was definitely discriminatory. Buyers, please be aware of how you are treated particularly as a woman of color in comparison to other ethnic groups in the store. Keep all of your products. This is a good location to stop in if you know exactly what you want to purchase from MAC Cosmetics. I stopped in today; the staff was fair and I was able to check out quickly. I wouldn't say that I walked in and was greeted (and with so many people on the floor that's a good tip; greet your guest the same way locations in midtown and throughout the nation do.) Outside of that I would recommend this location but come in knowing exactly what you need a head of time. I probably would have picked up a few more items if I felt the energy was inviting. However the staff took care of my purchase needs so I have no complaints. Every time I shop for new cosmetics, I always head to the MAC store on 125th Street. The energy at the store always puts me in a good mood and I'm always satisfied with the products. The service is always warm and inviting! The makeup selections and suggestions are top-notch. The location is also very convenient for me and it's close to an express subway station. I recently had the pleasure of working with Kaye at the store and we laughed a bunch throughout her helping me find the makeup I needed. By the end of the session we even had an inside joke which gives me more reasons why I want to return to that store. I had a great experience at MAC cosmetics on 125th Street. I was assisted by Javon! He was so sweet and very informative. I'm not a big makeup girl so I needed a foundation that had medium to full coverage and was easy to apply. He helped with just that. He also recommended a concealer. I bought the self care skincare duo which is originally $68 and I got it for $42 as a package deal. I was also gifted some freebies. A lipgloss, makeup bag, lipstick and eyeshadow. Customer service is the worst, I have ever experienced, I ordered online and paid for same day delivery. When my order arrived I was sent the wrong shade. I called the store and was told by the manager, "oh that is human error" , she didn't offer no compensation or understanding. Mac need to do better. The store is on 125th street in NYC. read more

I'm a MAC Pro member. As an actor I was given the membership because I fly through make-up but I don't wear a lot on an everyday occasion because my skin needs a break. I have to say this is THE WORST MAC location in the city. Like avoid at all costs. There is a lack of professionalism here that needs to be overhauled. I've stopped by this location on several occasions and have NOT once had a good experience. Not once. I've had MUA insult me about my foundation color that I wear every damn day meanwhile their make-up is looking clownish. I've had girls ignore me when I asked for a product. I've had security follow me like I was gonna steal. I've had to wait 15 mins to buy something because the girl who helped me disappeared in the back some where and the other MUA didn't want to take her commission. I literally live down the street and I would rather go all the way downtown to the 59th Street location to shop because at least there is some level of respect for customers/clients. I took a drive here today (about 1hr) since the 2 Mac locations near me closed, I had to stock up my kit and wanted to make the trip worth it so I made a big purchase. I made a list for the girl and she got everything for me, while being there I also saw somebody getting their makeup done and it looked impeccable!! I went to MAC to exchange a foundation. Previously, a MAC makeup artist recommended the incorrect color. No biggie , because I have 30 days to return or exchange a product. First of all, the security person followed protocol. He, made sure he didn't allow too many people in the store because of safety. When I entered the store , I was greeted by a friendly, pretty, smiley person name Lyric. She was the only person working that afternoon. Perhaps the other makeup artist were on a break. Lyric was helping a customer. She told me she will be right with me. She didn't complain and say she was alone , nor did she ignore me. She acknowledged me and let me browse. When another customer came into the store. She was hospitable as well. She kept her composure when more customers where allowed in to the store. After she finished with the client. She thank me for my patience. She didn't rush me and she was thorough in answering my questions. I finally have the correct foundation match. This has never deterred me. I'm not intimidated by makeup artists. I'm a MAC girl. I usually know what I want and how to get the attention I need. Not this trip. Stumbled upon this MAC outpost after leaving the Studio Museum of Harlem. I needed mascara. I'm not a huge fan of MAC mascara but I figured since I was right there, I'd give it another shot. I walked in with a big smile (maybe my inherent Midwesterner friendliness gave me away?) and was igged. Like looked at DEAD in the eye, and then the dude looked away, as if I was hurting his eyes. This was an early Sunday afternoon. Which is to say, despite the smallness of the store, it was not busy. I kept trying to get the attention of various workers and was either *altogether* ignored or given a dismissive "be with you in a minute..." Undeterred (I told you, these chicks don't scare me!) I went over to the mascara counter and helped myself. I know how this goes at MAC. Tray full of disposable wands, eye-makeup remover nearby, counter full of mascara, I was good. FINALLY a young lady came over to ask if I needed help. I said no, that I was just trying to find a mascara. She told me I'd picked the best one to try, and left me be. Told me that if I needed anymore help to let her know. Uh huh. Yeah, so by then I had already decided that I'd just dazzle up my eyes courtesy of MAC, and get some mascara from Duane Reade. My sale for this MAC store was lost at the 3rd brush-off. I've been to MAC stores, literally, all over the world. I've been to MAC pro stores, including the one on Spring Street -- where I was treated like Queen Elizabeth. I am so glad to come on here and see that I am not the only person who has had consistently poor customer service every time I visit this MAC location. If you go in with a question, they look at you as though you are inconveniencing them with your lack of product knowledge. If you go in knowing what you want, good luck trying to find someone to check out you in under a half hour. There is never one employee designated to work register so patrons have to wait around for an artist to be done doing makeover just to check out. It's ridiculous. Let me just say that I am not into makeup nor do I use it often. One of my friends was constantly telling me about the wonders of makeup and every time I saw her looking amazing she would say that was coming from the MAC store. I met my friend here to try on lipsticks and it turned into a full blown make-up application session. This store is pretty small and it was a packed on Friday afternoon. There were people everywhere trying on makeup or waiting to pay. Although there are a lot of employees working here it appears as though only 3 out of the 15 are actually working. This seems to be the root of the problem. There is no organization and instead of everyone working they seem to mill around aimlessly while the limited people who are actually doing their job try to do everything at once. The girl doing our makeup would have to stop and walk over to answer the phone even though there were about 5 others behind the counter just chatting. My friend wanted to wait for a specific girl to do our make-up and it took forever. I honestly can't remember the make-up artist's name but she was soo patient and extremely thorough. She ended up trying several looks on me and actually demonstrating how to do them myself. If this review was for her alone she would get 5 stars but the lack of organization at this store is just ridiculous. read more

Love this MAC store! The staff is very knowledgeable about the products and work with your style. I work in a somewhat conservative environment and wanted an eye shadow for everyday, with a little color. Ended up getting two great suggestions and buying both of them. Much better experience than I had at the Macy's MAC counter where the staff was rude, not helpful or customer focused. I went there on an unglamorous day to inquire about a foundation that a friend recommended to me. When I asked, the irritated-looking employee said yes we have it and picked up a makeup brush and started poking my cheek with the brush in a hostile way like he was almost stabbing my face with it even while I was trying to talk and pull away. I hadn't asked for a makeover, if that's what that was, just to see a particular product, so I really didn't want him to put some random makeup on my face. He had a disgusted look on his face that he had to help people and just kept stabbing my neck with the brush after I dodged contact with my face. It felt like he was mentally spitting at me. Lots of other employees there stood around and watched while I defensively threw up my hands to block the brush as he actually made it hurt. I said nevermind and walked out and WILL NEVER RETURN. It's been a long time since I came to this MAC location. I haven't been since my girl Kem left and I see why. Attitudes attitudes attitudes. It's either the girls who work there hate their jobs or they are so understaffed that the they are taxed. Either way my experience was far from pleasant. It took forever for my items to get pulled the girl who rang me out didn't ask if i needed anything else, barely checked for one of my products before telling me they didn't have it and didn't say thank you once she was done ringing me up. The make up ''artists'' are very ameture. Please hire better ones. The first woman who did my foundation to cover acne, didn't know what she was doing. The make up looked terrible, you could still see my bumps, and bags under my eyes. I get bags if I don't sleep a lot, which has been often lately, and I need concealer/foundation, to look fresh and lovely. When I told her I wanted to erase my bags she actually said there was no way of doing it. Which is a freaking lie! I saw Youtube videos of regular people doing it. I even told her, and she had the nerve to still claim there was no way to remove bags with make up. She even tried doing a make up trick to make my cheek bones stand out. Excuse you? I did not ask for this, I ended up looking ridiculous, and like a drag queen. WTF?? The second time I went here a guy did my make up, he did a much better job, but he gave me attitude, so I didn't end up buying anything, cause I didn't want him to get credit for it, hahaha. I went to this store on April 4th, 2015 in a bind. I wanted my makeup done for my birthday that evening, but hadn't made an appointment. I walked in and asked a lady at the counter if they had any openings and was informed that they were booked. :( However, she said she could check to see if she could squeeze me in with someone. Cue JJ! JJ was not only gracious enough to fit me in, SHE WAS THE BOMB! I am admittedly not a makeup wearer (besides a little tinted moisturizer and a mascara) my face is pretty bare. However, I knew that I wanted something a little more dramatic than the usual (it was my birthday after all) but nothing that would make me unrecognizable. She had the perfect touch. Not only was my face painted to perfection, she highlighted all the parts of my face that made me beautiful. I had this beautiful, classic Hollywood glamour look (all humility aside, I looked amazing). She even talked me into getting lashes, worth it. Overall, it was such a pleasant and worthwhile experience. I've read the reviews about this store but I had such a pleasant experience dealing with all of the ladies, not just JJ (I can't say enough good things about her work, or her spirit, she's actually this amazing), that I have no problems not only giving them five stars, but recommending them to my friends. I did want to take the time to express what a great experience I had while shopping at MAC Harlem 125th today! My salesperson Julie went out of her went to assist me with all of my purchases even though they were several customers coming in and out. Being the makeup geek I am (and quite selective if I am being honest) Julie was patient, friendly, welcoming, and kind. This truly made my day; I went in only looking for one lipgloss and left purchasing five items because the clerks made me feel so comfortable looking around and swatching different products! This store is clean, organized, and they have a great selection of MAC's classics and some new exciting products as well.
