We were seeking a skilled family law mediator to guide us through our divorce. Shazi is bright, energetic, knowledgeable, and well qualified for family law mediation. Our initial introduction session was excellent. She made such an impression on both my wife and I that we stopped interviewing mediators and enlisted her services immediately. She offered two packages: 1) flat fee for completing and filing forms and a block of mediation hours. Time beyond that was billed at her hourly rate; 2) Employ her services at her hourly rate and complete the forms and do the filing on your own. Since we had already completed the first two steps including completing and filing the forms, option 2 seemed the right choice us. We opted for the hourly approach. That's when the troubles began. She asked us several time if we wanted flat fee option and warned us we were on our own to complete and file the forms. We told her we understand and stood by our decision. She immediately seemed annoyed. She was courteous and showed us out of her office. Her demeanor was professional at all times except the slight hint of annoyance. She request we send send her "financial disclosures and accompanying statements and documents to the mediation session." I asked her specify the content and format she wanted for the financial disclosure statements. I wanted to bring the correct information to our first session to ensure our mutual productivity. We got an non-response stating again she does't help with completing or filing the forms. This became her theme in every subsequent communication. She never answered my questions regarding the financial disclosure statements. This kind of passive-aggressive behavior is unexpected from a professional attorney. It's apparent we erred in not taking the flat rate package. Don't make the same mistake. We took are (unwanted) business elsewhere. read more
