My sister and I went here for lunch and it was excellent! We had the chip and dip appetizer brisket sandwich and huge corned beef sandwich. Everything was so good- love the onion dip. I came here for the football game on Sunday. Definitely seems like a local bar; I was sitting with a bunch of locals who seemed to have the whole political scene of the town on lock. Decor: From the outside it looks like a converted police station; when you walk in it gives you a feel of an Irish bar with the dark wood and tile. I don't really know how large the place is, as I just sat in the bar area. Service: The barstaff was attentive and helpful, but the service wasn't really out of the ordinary though. Food: They had good drink and food specials; 1.50 mugs and .25 cent boneless wings. Their hot sauce really brings it here. I ordered the super hot and I completely forgot how hot it is.......it's most likely inedible for the average person. If you like things to hurt, then I highly recommend it. Their wings are breaded and are on the small side, but the boneless wings are where it's at. It's all white meat chicken that comes in a decent size. There is a variety of flavors to choose from; I recommend the sesame ginger. All in all it's a good spot with a decent selection of drinks and food. Stopped in for a quick to go order, wait staff, older women, struggled with whatever she was trying to accomplish on the computer terminal and seemed disinterested in taking our order. Upon returning to pick up the order I noticed we were missing one of the side's (onion rings) we had ordered, no problem, asked for it and someone else retrieved it from the kitchen as she had vanished. Headed out only to later discover that one of the sandwich's that we ordered was not correct and one of the sides accompanying the sandwich was no where to be found. *WARNING-BUGS IN FOOD* Came in early one Saturday afternoon with my brother in law to grab some lunch. We walk up to the hostess counter and no one was in sight. We wait 10 mins. Several employees walk by but no one seems to notice or care that we are waiting to be seated. We finally just seat ourselves, Menus and all, between two tables already occupied thinking someone would notice us . Wrong!!!! We sit for 10 more minutes while both tables on either side of us is took care of but not one person comes to greet us. Very aggravated at this point we get back up and proceed to stand once more at the hostess counter. Finally some guy, bigger heavyset with pants falling off, shirt unbuttoned and smelling like tobacco, seats us. After we get our meal I got through half my sandwich and pick up the second half and notice a live ant crawling around on my turkey!! Disgusted at this point we get up and leave! First off, I can heartily recommend Macado's in Farmville VA, Boone NC, AND here in Marion. Marion has however, been my favorite. The staff and patrons are all interesting folks and great conversationalists. The atmosphere is much more of a laid back hangout then the at-times-cluttered looking Macado's I've seen elsewhere. My family and I arrived just after noon time on Labor Day. Restaurant was not full or terribly busy. We were seated and the waitress took our order. Then the long wait, 45 minutes, before we found-out the waitress did not submit our order. We left, as we did not want to waste more time waiting and we had 3 more hours to drive home. Stopped by while traveling across country. Beautiful area, cool old down town. Needed to sit and work on some wifi (hotspot so I am not sure they have free wifi). Waiter was a great guy - very accommodating while I worked and my BFF drank afternoon shots of apple cider ale with sidecars of Fireball! She was having a good time. Its like a TGIFs in that it is decorated in that fashion - bar, restaurant - lots of stuff on the walls but none of it relevant (you know?!) But I ordered a club w/ turkey, ham and bacon - it was delicious! They make homemade potato chips - yum. Drunk BFF had a sandwich called the Pendleton - she loved it - take on a Reuben, I think. Great list of burgers, sandwiches and salads. Some are daring and the menu takes a bit to read through but everything looked good. Place was clean, prices were decent. Hit or miss at this Macados. First of all, there are often new faces here, which suggest a high turn over rate in staff and results in inconsistent service and food. The menu is massive and has something to please everyone, however you never know what you're going to get. I hate floppy bacon and specifically ask for it to be crispy, 9 times out of 10 it isn't but other Macados I've been to (bristol and princeton) have no problem accommodating this. Sandwiches sometimes have meat falling out of it from being so full and other times a lot less meat. They have good drink and food specials but almost every time I've ordered boneless wings during a wing special, they come out cold, wouldn't even call them warm. The bar area is extremely too small for events and specials/happy hour, often not even standing room left thanks to the new health sciences Emory & Henry location in Marion which bring in a bunch of rich young adults who don't know how to act in public once they get a drink in them. The poor bar staff simply can't keep up and there's no relief for them and it just leaves everyone bitter and holding an empty glass all night. The booth seating in the bar side is also broken down and wore out and has been for a while now. Eating on the restaurant side (not the bar) can be extremely slow and we've been forgotten about on more than a few occassions. And just as a side note, the place could use a really heavy cleaning. The kitchen appears mostly clean but the dining room and bar have a constant shut-up, stale smell and just never smells fresh or clean. read more
