A Japanese restaurant in the heart of southwest Virginia seems a tad out of place at first, but to the great credit of the owner and staff, they definitely make one feel very much at home while offering a dining experience that is not only very tasty but also unique for the region. The food is quite good and plentiful. I've ordered the bento box on multiple occasions, and they never skimp on the portions nor on the quality. This and a little jug of nice warm saki make for a delightful dinner. The ambience of the restaurant works well and is split into two parts, with one half an open room devoted more to family style seating and the other half designed for a cozier, more intimate dining occasion. What really sets Yummy Yummy apart, however, are the owner and staff. They are exceptionally warm and welcoming. Sure, they make certain your order is served correctly, but more notably they make certain you are treated exceptionally. You are regarded as a welcomed guest or, if a repeat customer, a returning friend. All in all, Yummy Yummy scores high marks in quirkiness, quality and character, and I give it a hearty recommendation. read more

Terrible service. Waitress was confrontational and acted like we were a bother to her. we asked for a different server and waitress said we couldn't have one we could only have her. Waitress kept handing everyone's plates/napkins/glasses to one person at the table for us to pass around ourselves. We had to ask another server for chopsticks and soy sauce. Waitress told me they had no hot water for green tea that I should choose something else or wait. i waited, tea served after i ate most of my food. tea pot was less than half full. The whole experience was awful. I gave my friend a big hug after we left because she was still upset our experience out was ruined. read more

Portions ok meat was kind of bland considering I asked for hibachi style and they served it to me with no sauce on the meat just in a cup. Service was good Kinda chilly inside eventhough we were seated beside a window we could have used some more light. read more

I'll start with the good things first. The female server was very attentive to our table. My nephew is non verbal and autistic. She was so patient and good with him. The food is not terrible. Could be better. With that said, we won't be coming back again. My parents live here and eat at this restaurant all the time. I live in Florida and I'm a travel nurse. So whenever I'm in town, we come here. Tonight, the server was talking to my nephew (and us) and I noticed the owner (I'm assuming), Amanda, kept looking over trying to get her attention. Instead of Amanda walking over and seating the guess herself, she made the server stop talking to us to get the door. Amanda was also closer to the guest than the server. The way she talks to her employees and guest is disgusting. I went up to the register to ask for an additional box. Amanda couldn't even look at me, motioned behind her and said 'SHE can get you a box'. Amanda I paid $122 in your restaurant tonight and not only did you treat your employees like trash but you dismissed me like I was bothering you. This is probably why you have different employees every time I've visit your restaurant. Also, does your husband and family know how crappy you treat people. I work with the public as well and it isn't that hard to put a smile on your face and treat people that are paying your bills with some kind of respect. read more

What universe have I stumbled into where most of the reviews are five stars of this place?! My brother brought me here seemingly as an awful practical joke and I was taken. Let's get one thing out of the way, this is in no way, shape or form anything even remotely Japanese. I know this because you can get far better food in Japan from vending machines. The trash they're serving here is adulterated spoilage. If you think this place is "gourmet" then you probably have never left Smyth County and don't know what the difference between sashimi and sushi are. Our waitress (who was devoid of a personality or any people skills) asked us if we wanted tater tots or rice. No, I'm not joking. I opted for rice and it was the most disgusting rice I've ever tasted and rice is exceedingly difficult to ufck up, but this place managed to do it. The vegetables on the platter were canned. The chicken tasted like it was cooked a week ago, frozen, recooked and placed under a heat lamp for 12 hours. The food is pitiful. We were presented with soups; they were as disgusting as the rice. It was like brown flavorless liquid with a few scallions floating about. We were also presented with salads; they were embarrassing. It was all iceberg lettuce, and when I say iceberg, it was all yellow, no green. There was one cucumber slice, and it was only partially rotting (turning semi-opaque on the outside) and a haphazard wedge of tomato. This is a seriously sad place, so if you're from out of this godforsaken town of Marion, then I implore you not to eat here unless you want to sit in the middle of a deserted "downtown" where a roving trio of hilarious Honda Civics circles endlessly because, well, it's Marion. read more

just pulled into the town of Marion for the night . Asked some folks where is the best place to eat. After assessing their recommendations, Yummy Yummy was the winner. So, my husband & I gave it a try. Well, what a wonderful gem this Japanese restaurant is in the quaint town of Marion, VA. We both ordered bento boxes. Mine had strip steak & scallops. My husband had shrimp & scallops. The sea food was cooked to perfection. The best scallops I ever had! My husband loved the scallops too along with perfectly cooked shrimp. Everything in our bento box was pure perfection. Loved the rice, sauces in the meat & scallops. The spring rolls were crispy & flavorful. The bento box also came with soup. A wonderful brothy soup. We have been regulars here for about 11 years now. Staff can be tricky at times not all are friendly. My husband and daughter love their sushi. Prices have definitely went up since we first started her I'm guessing so to shortages. Definitely recommend stopping in and trying them read more

Their sushi, well it SUCKS! I know sushi having lived in Japan and eaten at many restaurants that specialize. First of all the selection is extremely limited, no biggie, however, the yellowtail tuna I ordered was horrible and the eel was covered in so much sauce it was not good at all. The spider roll was OK, but what killed the deal was their rice. When I spoke with the waitress after the meal and what my complaints were, she casually told me that I should come on Tues when the truck with fresh fish arrives, I went on a Sunday. Then I ask why the rice was a bit mushy and she told me they put vinegar in it because the locals preferred it that way. SERIOUSLY? I've never heard of that, but oh well, at least the locals liked it. My wife ordered chicken and shrimp hibachi and it was so salty she could barely eat it. Even after making these complaints and getting the explanation from the waitress, she did nothing to make me want to come back, especially acknowledging that the fish wasn't fresh. After taking a look at their sushi station, I figured out why. It was open slightly and there was stuff packed in there so high the door couldn't close. I MOST DEFINITELY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. Go to Tokyo in Wytheville for MUCH better food. read more

We just ate here and the food is A-OK but not the service. Our server Amanda ruined our evening out. She took our drink order but never brought it and came back and asked us what we wanted to drink! We gave it again and our food order figuring we wouldn't get that in. She brought our soup and salad and we never saw her again...the kitchen brought out our food and we had to flag her down to get our check. When we went to pay someone else came over and I told her we loved the food but the service was awful. She said Amanda has been there a week and needs more training but you shouldn't have to train someone to smile and return to the table to offer more drinks or dessert. The salad dressing is really good...we even put some on our entrée. We always leave 20% or more for tip but we left her 10% which she really didn't even deserve. read more

We stopped at this restaurant on our way out of Marion, VA. We were the only customers in the restaurant when we arrived. The service was very slow and our server, Amanda was not friendly. We ordered potstickers, sushi and ribeye steak dinners. The potstickers and sushi were good. There were three of us in our party and we were shocked when we received our ribeye and scallop dinners. It was obvious that they had cut one ribeye steak in to three portions. At least I received the file portion. I'm not exaggerating when I say that my ribeye was 2 x 3"! I even asked Amanda if this was seriously all of the steak I was supposed to receive. She just said yes and walked away. The scallops were sliced horizontally to make it look like we had more on the plate. I could understand them doing that if they were large scallops. They sliced three scallops to make it look like there were six on the plate. The ribeye dinners were not worth $17.82 each. This was during lunch on a Saturday and Amanda said that we couldn't order off the lunch menu on the weekends. The total bill was $92.86! It was so disappointing and frustrating to think of all of the wonderful restaurants we could've eaten at for that amount. read more

This establishment gets 5 stars because it is one of the best dining experiences Marion has to offer and if it's Japanese cuisine you're looking for, you're not going to find a better value or a place offering better service. The menu here has a wide variety of items to choose from with daily specials and lunch deals on weekdays. The sushi is always freshly made from fresh ingredients in a clean and well-maintained environment. The food here is prepared to your specifications with choices of seasoning and sauces. Unlike other similar establishments I've around the area, the food here is NOT greasy and doesn't all taste the same. Each item has a distinct flavor and the food quality has been consistent. This is my dining preference when visiting Marion. As mentioned before, you won't find a better value on Japanese cuisine anywhere in the surrounding area. read more

I love this place, and I resisted going for a very, very long time simply because the name, to me, was off-putting. Plus, it's Japanese in Marion, and I was skeptical about the quality. However, I was SO surprised by how delicious their sushi is! I love the cowboy roll, the eel roll, and the spicy tuna roll. Thus far, I haven't had a bad meal there, yet! I always get the hibachi chicken and it's enough to eat on for days. Great place! So glad to have sushi close to home! read more
