I still need questions answered by text or email (deaf). I would like to understand what buying a cottage in Mackenzie Place is about. What happens if the parent company goes under or sells. I am not sure if this is like a regular HOA?

Hi Jim! Thanks for reaching out. Can you please send me your email in a private message so a member of our team can follow up with you? Thanks!

He had been in his home for over 30 years and just couldn't wrap his head around the idea of moving. I called Rigden Farm and spoke to Kathy. She was extremely informative and answered all of my questions. She made me feel so comfortable about scheduling a tour. Kathy explained that she is off on Mondays and that Dad and I would be touring with Kirstyn. Dad and I arrived a little early and Kirstyn was just finishing with someone else. The receptionist was so friendly, showed us to the sitting room and offered a beverage. Kirstyn built a great rapport with Dad, she wasn't afraid to laugh and smile. The community is absolutely beautiful. The 2 bedroom apartment my Dad chose is large, bright, and more than enough space. Dad particularly liked the gym and the ability to walk down the hall for fitness classes. Everyone we've met along this journey has been fantastic. Angie took the time to answer all of Dads question during lease signing. She knew residents by name and shared many smiles. Since moving in Dad seems to be more himself. He is relaxed, eating well, and socializing. I wish he would've moved a few years ago.

Staff consistently went "above and beyond" to provide skilled/compassionate care/support. I always enjoyed eating with Mom and her friends in the dining room, as the food was great, schedule was flexible, and the atmosphere never felt institutional. Entertainment/recreational opportunities were always varied and fun. I especially appreciated the in-house (but separately-contracted) physical/occupational therapy and home health aide services. I am a RN so I saw, personally and professionally, how well this place operates. I hope I can find a home as wonderful as this when I am older!

I thought long and hard before making this review. I think it's helpful for those making decisions…read morefor their loved ones to know what others have experienced. My parents lived in the Worthington, an independent living facility for 5.5 years. It was part of the Columbine system. When their health started to fail, and they needed to head to assisted living, we never questioned it because we made the assumption the quality experienced at one of their facilities would pour over to the others. In that we were mistaken. Mom never got a chance to live there as she ended up across the street in a long term care facility before she died three weeks later. I don't feel like we had enough experience there to review it. Dad, on the other hand, moved into memory care at New Mercer in June of 2025 as he could no longer live alone without Mom's help. My brother lives in MI. I live in CA. We took turns visiting Dad in CO, at least monthly, and more often as time went on. We truly never had many concerns about the care he got in his little community. For the most part, he was well taken care of. The staff was kind and caring and very friendly and approachable when we were there. However, the front office staff is another story. There was little to no communication between them and his caregivers. It was very obvious many times when we visited. A few things such as signing him up for both haircuts and manicures. We were told many times he needs to sign up for those. The 94 year old man is in memory care! He can't do that. My brother and I would try to do it when we were there, but often times he was overlooked, signed up or not. His hair and nails grew out to where he looked unkept. He was on hospice for his first few months. He was gaining an alarming amount of weight. The nurse suggested half portions at meals. Mom and Dad always ordered half portions when they lived at the Worthington. We approved it. But he was often served whole portions, and one of his caregivers told me it just depended on who was in the kitchen and if they paid attention. He was a "clean up your plate" kind of guy. So if it was in front on him, he usually ate it. I often times went to the front office to talk about these things. It was recorded, and I was assured they'd be passed on at scheduled meetings. I have no evidence that ever happened. While there, his billfold disappeared. There was nothing of value to anyone else in it, but we searched high and low and couldn't find it. After he died, we got a call that his billfold has appeared on someone's desk. She laughed and said things were always showing up on her desk. She wasn't the least bit concerned how it had disappeared or where it had been. So, bottom line, if you live near you'll probably have more luck than we did. Living as far away as we did, we worried constantly. I looked into moving him closer to me, but he was 94 and confused. The last thing I wanted to do was to make that situation worse. He died 2-11. The last few days he had 24 hours nursing care and then was moved across the street into a long term care facility where he died after two days. I wish I could do it over again. I'm so glad he's now with Mom.

After a few days, he was discharged from the hospital and moved to the Suites Fort Collins for rehab. It is likely that he was discharged too earlier, but I don't think this was the right kind of facility for someone with heart disease like my Dad. Firstly, he needed to be monitored at all times and a lot of the time he was left unattended, like he was just on vacation. There is no permanent doctor at this facility, but my Dad was still in a very weakened state. The physical therapists and occupational therapist pushed him too hard and weren't listening to what he was saying. They were most concerned with the incision where the surgery took place, but didn't have much experience with a more complex elderly person with serious cardiological issues. On Friday, he was very frustrated that his concerns were being ignored and he complained that his condition had worsened since he left the hospital, where he had been making progress. He was already able to walk with a walker and assistance. The following day, we went to see him. When we arrived the staff was running around frantically. We approached my Dad's room and he was lying on the floor. Apparently, the staff had just discovered him. We heard them say, "Call 911," and they were trying to revive him, but it was too late. We don't even know how long he was there before they found him. Someone in my Dad's state needed to be monitored at all times. I blame the hospital partly for releasing him to soon and to the wrong type of facility, but the staff at The Suites, Fort Collins was simply too negligent and inexperienced.
