My husband and I attended the 8 PM Saturday Ali Siddiq show, our first time at Macon City Auditorium. Knowing downtown parking can be a whole event of its own, we arrived an hour early and scored street parking right across the street! The clear-bag policy was strictly enforced, so thankfully I came prepared. There were a lot of women who had to make the long walk back to their cars since they didn't get the clear bag memo. Security was quick and easy, with metal detectors, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The auditorium is spacious but definitely showing its age. Our floor seats were close to the stage, but the chairs weren't numbered. Instead, tiny papers on the floor told you which seats belonged in each row. For nearly $200 a ticket, I shouldn't have to count chairs like I'm doing inventory at a warehouse. Fortunately, the loose chairs made getting in and out of the row easy. The folks sitting in the balcony didn't look very comfortable and the seats were super close. I'm glad I paid the extra money for more comfortable seats. The restrooms downstairs were surprisingly clean. Concessions were limited, and our $5 popcorn came in a box that looked like it was on a diet. Drinks were available both on the main balcony and downstairs. Leaving was easy, with no major traffic mess. Overall, the venue could definitely use some TLC, especially the seating, but the staff, security, cleanliness, and location worked in its favor. I'd return for another show because this is one of the few venues in Macon that you can get tickets for good entertainment. read more

Back in March I was gifted a ticket to see Jill Scott down in Macon. I did some research in this venue so I knew it was aged. I prefer smaller venues for concerts. They just hit differently. We had front row seats in the balcony right. Section 202/Row A Seat 5 and 6. Now let me just say this. If you are handicap or have mobility challenges be prepared to walk. There are no elevators or escalators available in this venue. If you have a seat in the balcony you have to walk up a set of steps. Also there is an entrance just for handicap. I used the entrance but I really didn't see where it made much of a difference. Another thing is knowing where your seat is and which door to use. We use the set of steps to the left of the venue not knowing that our seats were to the right of the venue. With that being said we walked up all those steps got to the balcony, and then we realized that our seats were all the way on the opposite side. We had to walk around the top of the balcony all the way around to the other side. I was out of breath honestly but the ushers were nice enough to let me sit down here and there on my way to my seat. Also if you are a height challenged or have some extra fluff y seats are tight. We chose the balcony front row thinking that we would have more leg room. Negative. You will not have more leg room just because you have the front row. As the night went on I noticed that there were no people on the end seats so I got up and moved to the end where there was no restrictions with legroom. That also allowed me to see the stage very clearly on the right hand side. I saw every movement just Jill Scott made very clearly. I will say the acoustics in this place were pretty good. I saw other reviews where people didn't like the sound but the sound was on point on this particular night. It was also very easy to get out of this place even though there was a crowd. I definitely would not choose floor seats because I saw where those seats some of them were zip tied together especially on the front row. You have no room to move around. This place is old and tattered and smell old but it was a good show regardless. read more

Truly disappointed and hurt that I had a great seat to see Ali Saddiq today for a 7pm show and drove 1.5 hours to this location to not be able to see him perform. Drove around for about 10 minutes, like many others, to finally find parking directly across from the Auditorium for $20 that only took cash. I looked at the Auditorium to see it was a chaotic scene. At about 720 there was a long line still waiting to get in. The Line extended from the Auditorium down the stairs onto the sidewalk. This told me that the show would be delayed as well, as people were looking for parking like me while others were waiting to get in. Afterwards, I drove around a few more blocks for about 10-20 more minutes then at 745 I gave up and drove the 1.5 hours back home. I called the box office to voice my disappointment. If you're not familiar with the area you wouldn't know where else to seek parking but I tried by following the crowd as they continued to look for parking. I won't be coming back to this location. Went there on 11Apr to see Jo Koy. He was very funny as was the gentleman who opened for him. Seats are tight, no knee room but I could deal with that. My issue was the ushers! They paced back and forth behind us all night talking. They were trying to catch someone taking pictures or videotaping so aggressively that they had no regard for us. They stood between us and the stage over and over and over all night!!! One kept leaning on the back of the seat right beside me despite the fact that the row was empty and they could have moved down, it wasn't necessary to stand over my left shoulder...but you did anyway!!! With what we paid for tickets and the $5.00 bottles of water we should atleast be allowed to watch the show!!!!! That was BS! read more

We found this venue fantastic for its purpose! The building is old and beautiful! Seating was comfy! Staff was friendly and fun. Rick Springfield rocked the house. Sound was amazing for this size, type of venue. PS parking was $20 on the same block. Convenient for sure! Easy in and easy out. read more

Food is downstairs and the main bathrooms, although it's awkward the big oddity of all is the seating, I can see how the room is used for various things but if I'm paying hundreds of dollars for a show, I would hope for a better seat than a old cushioned knee to knee with the person next to me seating situation, crammed in like sardines. Adding that turning in the air or heat would be a bonus, the room gets stuffy. Lines can be very long to get in, parking is a free for all, a designated lot is generally standard but not here. Went to two different concerts (Lee Brice & Gary Allan. The music was great. Everything else not so much. The building is beautiful but not functional. I'm only 5'3" but my knees were getting hit by the seat in front of me. Felt like I was in a can of sardines. Made no difference 1st floor center or balcony. I understand having enough seating for concerts. But when you're elbow to elbow with the next person, its not good. Please give us some elbow and leg room. read more

Attended the Bonnie Raitt concert and she did not disappoint! The A/C unit, however, did not cut it. We were in a bit of a steam bath. The staff did have their hands full. People were trying to film the concert even tho' the signs and announcement were clear. But keeping doors closed would have made a difference. Come on guys! read more

We came to see Eric Gales and the legendary Buddy Guy 9-16-23. The venue is big, was surprised to see loose chairs placed very close together for main level seating. Front row seating is right up next to the stage. Long, slow lines for bar service on the main floor. Went downstairs for the bathroom and was surprised to see a much nicer bar with no lines. Security was laid back at entrance and not visible inside. Not the best venue, was just ok. read more

Historic venue that so much potential, but clearly hasn't been giving the proper attention. It's a smaller venue and sorta bootleg in my opinion. Floor seating is comprised of folding chairs. They honestly weren't too bad for a comedy show, as it didn't last that long, but I can't imagine sitting in them any longer. Also, the rows are crammed together, so if you weren't paying attention that someone was walking behind you to lean foward you are as good as hit. I'm not sure what was going on with the air situation but it was hot AF. Packed in like sardines and sweating just sitting there made for a funny and very uncomfortable show. We came into town for the Reo Speedwagon concert. This was out first time at the Macon City Auditorium. It's a super cute venue. The lines were long to get into the show and they wrapped around the building. I'd suggest bringing an umbrella if rain is expected cause there is no cover. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house. There is a really cool bar right across the street from the venue so you can walk over for a drink after the show. read more

I went to the auditorium for a concert. This was my second time attending an event here. The place is in need of some updates, but the price of tickets for both events that I went to were half the price of what they would have been at a venue in Atlanta. I have only sat in the balcony. The view from the front balcony area is pretty good. Although seats on the floor seem more desirable, they look like folding chairs and I'm sure they would get uncomfortable and crowded after a while. The balcony seats are like old school padded theater seats. Concessions and restrooms are on the lowest level, so this may not be the best place to wear heels ladies. read more

Saw Jill Scott on 3/2, bought front row tickets thinking we'd have an incredible time - Jill was AMAZING, the seating was HORRIBLE! The chairs in the front row were ziptied together. WTF?! Numerous ppl complained that we were crammed in & literally sitting on top of each other but every staff persons response was either 'i'll see what I can do ' , or 'its because of the fire marshal, we don't want anyone to rush the stage'. The fuk? Why would I pay almost $1k for 2 tickets & be uncomfortable just because the venue/fire marshal - whoever - wants to use the front row as a barrier? Did they oversell the first row to make more? Why not space out the front row seats a bit & put up a barrier BEHIND the row if they didn't want ppl trying to come up??? The row right behind us wasn't cramped like us. I'm so disappointed! And the fact that the box office staff told us 'we've never had so many complaints before' really has me wondering if this was done due to it being a primarily Black crowd this was mostly a 30+ crowd just trying to vibe. Like my neighbor (who I was so close to we got intimately acquainted during our 3hrs of trying to shift & adjust so our bodies weren't overlapping) said - "it's not like we're all 100# stick figures!" Being close to Jill Scott was great but the place is so small sitting a few rows back would have provided more comfort & enjoyability as well as kept a few dollars in my pocket. Overall I'm extremely disappointed. I know my review won't mean anything to the staff or change anything (if this really is how the front row is set up for ALL shows) but best believe I for one believe in the power of social media & word of mouth & will be posting everywhere possible & telling everyone I can about the very poor seating experience I had! read more

This venue probably has a lot of history behind it so the outside facade and interior are a little dated, yes...but the sound and bones are still in good shape. If you want a good view of the artist/show I would recommend the side balcony seats or front 20 rows to have a decent view. I did not mind the interior because I came to listen to some music so I have no big gripes other than if you are seated in the balcony, know that the restrooms are at the bottom of the building and the stairs are steep. I found this out by following the paper sign with the word restroom and an arrow handwriting on it. I tried to ask an attendant in a yellow jacket that was sitting a few feet from a cordoned off area, but it was easier just to follow the sign and the foot traffic. They had two bars opened and a minimum of three people manning them so the queues were little to none. Middle Georgia is a different area, I felt like I was back in the 60'-70's but in a good way. I love architecture and the Neo-classical style of the auditorium and nearby City Hall was a delight. The doric pillars are still standing the wear of time. Almost forgot, do not sleep on a venue like this because you never know what surprise you might be in store for. For instance, Earth, Wind and Fire are coming March 11th... read more

Quite a flavorful venue. I drove down from Atlanta for a concert without any knowledge of this place; didn't hate it, but had to make concessions on a few things. It seems like it's pretty popular with the locals, or maybe just the cigarette-breath, bud light-slurping south GA folks. The concessions and large bathrooms are in the basement, which looks like a 1980s church basement. Gross carpet and a different vibe from the rest of the auditorium. Food-wise, eat before you go - their selections were limited to popcorn and nachos. Pack a flask if you want to get a buzz for less than $30. Dress in layers. We had balcony seats and got a little warm on-and-off during the night. Not entirely unexpected as it's an old building and hot air rises, but come prepared to lose a layer in order to stay comfortable (even in February). If you don't fit in a regular airplane seat, you will not be comfortable in the balcony unless you're in the front row (more leg room). Or buy your tickets on the floor so you can stand. Great sound-wise, and small enough that a screen isn't needed for a concert. There's really not a bad seat in the house for seeing the stage and hearing the music. read more

Hot. It's soooo hot. Never come back. Everyone was fanning. May 11, 2014 balcony. I'm 5'7" and my knees were hitting the seat in front of me. Also, if you buy a seat on the floor, it's a folding chair with a little cushion. Not worth it. The projector and screen need updating. I could hardly see Bill Cosby. I want my money back. It was that bad. The concessions in the basement were affordable. Since it was so hot, they ran out of cold water bottles. If you wanted a water bottle ($2), you were given a full cup of ice. I spilled my ice before leaving the basement. I carried too much stuff. A nice young staff member helped me carry the items all the way to the balcony for me. If you need a cool place to go to wait for the concert to end, stay in the basement. Also, I scored a refill on my soda while I stayed down there cooling off. Popcorn was VERY salty. Easy way to sell more drinks if you ask me. They sold plenty of alcohol. It was sold on he main floor. They scan your ticket when entering. Long lines outside, though the concert was sold out. If I knew of some legal recourse to get my money back I would. If I could sue this place and be awarded millions of dollars, I would. Then I would donate the money to charity just to shut this place down. Sad part is my wife got us these tickets for my birthday, so I really can't complain on FB or she would see it. What can I say? I've been to numerous events in the Macon City Auditorium, and I have to tell you that they have all been different experiences. First. The auditorium is the best place aesthetically and acoustically to see a concert. I saw the Allman Brothers Band on 4/23/2010, sat far in the back (floor level), and enjoyed the concert thoroughly. The concessions in the auditorium are located on the basement floor, which totally cuts down on traffic in the major hallways. The bathrooms are pretty much normal. So why just A-OK? The auditorium has lots of nice features; however, some are in need of restoration. I noticed tonight at my brothers high school graduation that the balcony seats could really use an update. Also, some of the curtains looked to have some sort of black stain. sure the interior could use a minor face lift, but let's be practical. Went there to see Vince Gill Feb.16th & while the building is pretty it's so out dated!!! We'll never go back! I have a disability & didn't know that there is no elevator there! I am still in pain 3 days after having to climb the stairs there! The bathrooms are in the basement & we didn't know that until we got upstairs so I just had to be miserable the whole time because I couldn't do the additional stairs! The sound was also horrible because you could barely hear him sing when the band was playing! The best part was when it was just him & his guitar so you could actually hear him sing! We went to see the Celtic Woman the other night the concert was awesome...was only in the Auditorium once before for a dinner (tables and chairs), but was totally disappointed the seating was terrible. Folding chairs with a cushion on them...and all flat on the floor...so not only were we uncomfortable for over 2 hrs we had to keep moving to see the concert because of the taller people in front of us. So although the concert was great...don't think I'll ever go there again for the price of tickets we paid for not worth it. read more
