Monkey's Paw Tiki Lounge, Macon, GA: wonderful drinks, great ambiance, entertaining showmanship by Tony and his sidekick barman. Liked the retro background music, subtle, not intrusive even if not necessarily "tiki". Super fun decor--look for pinchy, skeleton, little touches throughout in this cozy getaway. Exclusive in that they ONLY seat 8-16 patrons at a time, in ONE-HOUR increments. And they really mean that....no early arrival and clear you out to keep on schedule, but all went very smoothly in our visits (twice in one night, ate dinner in between). CALL AHEAD for reservations. Pregame is a bit weird as you enter via an alley, checking at cigar lounge-y Downtown Grille, check in staff were pretty sweet & helpful though. *Zombie (best) *jungle bird *Mai tai (above avg, 1944 trader Vic recipe) *Navy grog (nice ice cone!) *Big willie D (White Russian, dairy free, sweet) *Pina habana (coco-.oil washed plantation 3 star, not too sweet) *Painkiller (nice addition of nutmeg/cinnamon) *The monkeys paw (cool mug! Unique & balanced & citrusy & smoky mezcal float) *Sputnik monkey (reminded Jarrod of nutty Irishman, reminded Jen of tiramisu, dessert drink) Tip: they do sell mugs & tshirts--ask!

What can I truly say about this spot besides that it's hands down my favorite place! Hidden Tiki Bar in Macon,GA - like who would have thought! It is by reservations only and you get 1 hour (which how these drinks are made trust me it's plenty of time). They have their set menu and each month they bring out 2 special drinks. They also have the Monkeys Paw passport where you get a stamp for each drink you have and once you have had all the drinks your name goes up in the wall! Clearly I have a completed passport my friends - that should let you now how often we come here. The owners are absolutely wonderful people and their drinks are SO crazy good. Their hands were blessed by the cocktail gods. Anytime I have friends who visit from out of town this is a must stop for us! Making 3 stops here in April so yeah that should tell you everything.

Could not recommend more. First, you need a reservation, so get one. They can hold a max of 8 patrons. Bring your mask and your appetite for everything rum. Both bartenders are amazingly knowledgeable of rum drinks and tiki culture. Fabulous ambiance, great addition to the downtown macon bar scene. Highly recommend the jungle bird; caution if you're wanting to try the Zombie, it is quite strong. Slainte!

It was a Friday night, so it was pretty packed when we first got there. We put our names down, and then grabbed a drink at the bar. There was outdoor seating that was available, so we grabbed a seat. We were then notified that our table was ready. It wasn't even 20 minutes, so this was great. The host took us to two seats at the bar. SOS is such a cool island type of vibe. They have so many different tiki cocktails that you can choose from. They are mostly made of rum, but they have a few other ones that are made with different alcohols. Me and my wife both got our own drinks. Hers was a special Valentine's Day themed drink that was on the menu, and mine was one of the tequila/mezcal tiki drinks. Both tasted really good! The presentation was just as good too! You aren't limited to these though, it's a full bar, so you can get whatever you want. They also have a few food options, but very limited. Our bartender, Heather, was super nice as well. My wife had asked (when I went to the restroom) if they did anything for birthdays, since my birthday was a few days prior. She did this cool fire presentation and gave us two little slushie shots. Awesome bartender for sure! SOS is a great place to go for some really fun drinks. It's good for groups, but keep in mind that they do get quite busy on the weekends! I'll definitely be back.

All the drinks were very fun and taste great and range from smooth to STRONG. The attention to detail put into crafting the drinks is very admirable. I can guarantee your drink will look exactly like how it's depicted on the menu. If only I could remember the names of all the drinks I tried....oh well. What I do remember is that they set the Mai Tai's on fire so that's pretty cool. Service was also great. S/O Charlie! Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. You're welcome!

Tucked away in an unsuspecting corner of Downtown Macon, this fine dining English-style steakhouse established in 1997, offers an experience that unfolds slowly, from a puzzling entrance to a surprisingly polished dining room... and ultimately to some of the best food I've had in Middle Georgia. ARRIVAL + FIRST IMPRESSIONS Because Downtown Macon was buzzing on this particular Saturday night, my husband and I ended up parking a couple of blocks away and taking the alley the GPS insisted was our route. Let's just say the alley definitely had "first date horror movie" vibes--but the beautifully framed photos lining the walls helped cut the sketch factor a bit. Once inside, we were greeted by a friendly, outgoing staff... and immediately greeted by something else: the cigar smoke. Downtown Grill has a full bar with an impressive oak humidor and a selection of bourbons, wines, and scotches that could easily impress the most seasoned connoisseur. But that also means the bar area is smoky--very smoky. I actually questioned whether we'd wandered into the wrong place until the hostess whisked us to the back dining room, where the ambiance shifted entirely. The dining room is intimate, classic, and much more aligned with "fine dining." Cozy booths, dim lighting, soft background music, truly an escape. And once seated, I didn't smell the cigar smoke at all. Bonus points for the restrooms using cloth napkins for hand-drying, an eco-friendly and elegant touch. We had noted on our reservation that it was our anniversary, but there was no acknowledgment. Not a deal breaker, but definitely unexpected for a fine dining restaurant, especially one that's been around this long. Our server was polished, professional, and consistently attentive. No complaints there. I started with the Elderflower Refresher and my husband with an Old Fashioned, both solid. But the star of the cocktail lineup? The Lavender Margarita. An absolute hit and something I'd go back for alone. For an appetizer, we ordered the Lump Crab Cakes. As a Maryland native, my standards are sky-high. These weren't "lump" crab cakes, but for Middle Georgia they were acceptable. They were flavorful, well-seasoned, and paired perfectly with the aioli drizzled on top. Then came the French Onion Soup. I'd seen the rave reviews and they were absolutely justified, easily the best I've had in years. Rich, savory, cheesy perfection. We both opted for the special of the night, the Salmon. My husband's came with mashed potatoes and green beans. I chose broccoli and green beans. The verdict? 5 out of 5. The salmon was cooked with precision--flaky, flavorful, expertly seasoned. The veggies were fresh, vibrant, and seasoned beautifully. Truly, this was the best meal I've had in Middle Georgia, hands down. Downtown Grill may not be where I'd choose to celebrate a milestone (the lack of acknowledgment and smoky entrance made sure of that), but it is where I'll go when I want a reliably excellent, well-executed meal. The kitchen is clearly the star of the show, and they delivered an unforgettable dining experience. We'll absolutely be back, maybe not for the anniversary, but definitely for that food.

My first experience was fantastic, and this time was just as perfect. The entire staff is friendly and attentive, clearing plates and refilling water as they pass by--truly exemplary service! Jordan was fabulous, striking the perfect balance between being attentive and allowing me to enjoy my meal. I arrived an hour before closing, but that didn't affect the experience at all. The French onion soup was just as amazing as I remembered--flavorful, slightly sweet, and loaded with onions and cheese. This time, I decided to try the chicken marsala for my entrée. The chicken was grilled to perfection with a lovely char, and the sauce was delicious; my only regret is that I didn't ask for extra sauce. The mashed potatoes and green beans were also bursting with flavor. Overall, another five-star experience!

The bar isn't very big, maybe 10 stools in all? The place is very dark and dimly lit with tiki vibes. The bartender was very slow to greet us and give us drink and food menus. Ordered the original Mai Tai and it tasted awful, second drink was a TZ Swizzle much fruitier nicer and light. My colleague ordered the stir fry and it looked tasty. I ordered the edamame pot stickers with shishito peppers and falafel salad. The pot stickers came fried which I wish the menu would have specified but they were tasty and the shishito peppers in the yuzu sauce were delicious. The salad was brought to me without the falafel on top so I had to struggle to get the bartenders attention to let him know and waited some more to receive the four falafels on a separate plate. Once I began eating it I noticed the salad was also very dry, it's so dark I couldn't notice at first until I started to eat it. Then I requested more dressing. To be honest eating at the bar was probably not the best choice because the service was slow as he was slammed making drinks and the bar top had such a huge thick lip it was hard to eat over your plate, so much sauce dripped on to the bar edge because it was so far away from me.
