We're jammin' I want to jam it with you…read moreWe're jammin', jammin' And I hope you like jammin' too (Bob Marley - Jamming) One of the nicest moments we had at the Goshen Stampede was our visit to the Simply Jam booth where we chatted with the host, tried some samples, and bought a jar of their "Hot" Jalapeno Jam. They operate their business out of a household in Barkhamstead, CT where they hand craft six varieties of jalapeno jams. The basic jalapeno jams comes in three heat levels - mild, hot, and extra hot. Or you can go the flavored route and add garlic, mint or cranberry to the jalapeno. An 8 ounce jar costs $7, and their website says the jams are available at a dozen stores clustered to the northwest of Hartford and along the CT-NY border down to the Bronx. They also have a website for mail orders. I love seeing successful small businesses that put out great products. Try one of their jars, and I bet you'll like jammin' too.

Like, for example, they have an extensive selection of kimchi offerings. I also appreciate finding brands like Primal in stock. But, as other Yelpers have already stated, the prices are considerably more expensive than items found in your "normal grocery store". One reason might be the small ARMY of staff they have working here. I arrived just after they opened at 8am this morning, EVERY aisle had at least two or three employees stocking shelves. Yeah, the store is nice & clean, but I imagine the higher prices on stock reflect that level of staffing. The parking lot can be a mini adventure to navigate, but I try to get here early to avoid too much hassle. And since Whole Foods in Avon is a 20 mile round trip for me, I only come here to shop occasionally.

Depending on when you come sometimes they run out of what you're looking for like specific breads, yogurt, etc. On specific days they also have additional discounts like buy one get one 50% off on sushi and they discount things coming close to expiration like cookies and salad kits. They also still give out free paper bags, even at self checkout.

After several rounds of perusing all of the aisles, I feel that Accra is best catered to the West Indian and/or Caribbean American demographic. They have a huge selection of imported products of all types. Fabric, hair supplies, dry goods, make-up, apparel and footwear, and other odds/ends. I'm not confident that you could get ALL of your grocery shopping done here, but for some? Maybe! Overall, Accra has reasonably priced goods, friendly service and ample parking in their private lot.

Welcome to the great stuffed shrimp taste-off of 2021!!…read more In search of the best stuffed shrimp in the area to serve on Christmas Eve, I posted on various Facebook pages to solicit recommendations. Of course, I can't just trust strangers on Facebook, so we did what any self respecting Yelpers would do...we did a trial run of five spots over a two day period, ordering 4 stuffed shrimp from each. We sampled them plain, with lemon, butter, and cocktail sauce, critiquing the size, quality of the shrimp, taste and quality of the stuffing, and overall value for the price. With, of course, photos of both the raw starting point and the cooked final product. As Public Market received the most accolades in my surveys, it was our first stop. I had not been there before, it's a cute Italian market with a good selection of stuff. There is no signage for the stuffed shrimp, and they aren't in the case. So I guess it's one of those...if you know, you know. Otherwise, no shrimp for you! I audibly gasped when the woman handed me a plastic container with 4 shrimp and $32 and change noted on top. Was it upside down? Were my glasses dirty? No...at $26.99/lb, these bad boys rang in at $8+ each, the most expensive by far in the taste-off. They also topped the charts in cooking time, needing nearly 40 minutes to cook at 375. Most others were in the 25 minute range at 350. But just look at them - they're beautiful. I so wanted to love them! Unfortunately, the stuffing wasn't appetizing to me. It had chunks of what I think were fresh celery and onion, that remained crunchy even after baking for 40 minutes. It wasn't a texture I appreciated, and the stuffing was otherwise pretty bland. Better with lemon, even better dipped in butter, but for the price, they should shine alone. Hubby was hoping for something more like the ritz cracker type of stuffing, so he was also disappointed. Public Market came in at #2 out of 5 in the great shrimp taste-off of 2021. While I wasn't thrilled about the price or the taste of the stuffing, there's no arguing that the shrimp had a commanding presence, were fresh, perfectly cleaned, and tasty. I knew if we ordered these I'd be broke and figuring out how to amp up the seasoning at home, but my guests would have been visually impressed. And it seems like so many others love these shrimp, so maybe it's just an us problem. I will go back to Public Market to try other things, as the service was friendly and the quality of their ingredients to be top notch.

The directors of the program are genuine, authentic, salt-of-the-earth people, and I wholeheartedly recommend their various squashes, eggplants, tomatoes, and pickles. Delicious, flavorful, juicy, pure, wholesome, and sweet, and one of the things I miss most about working at the retreat center. While they do not use pesticides or conventional methods of IPM, the greens are surprisingly not as infested as you'd think, and with a proper washing process and bedikah, can be used for kosher consumption. If you live in the area, you owe it to yourself and your family to patronize these idealistic, trail-blazing Jewish farmers, who truly are changing the world, one pickle at a time.
