Empanada's we're very good and very tasty. If you don't have a sharp eye, you will miss this place. Tired calling the business during business hours but received a text from store stating that they're having phone issues but was still able to place my order. I call that good customer service. Truly a hole in a wall spot - the restaurant was empty when we arrived, so we weren't sure if they were open or not. I think there's only one person working here. She takes your order and cooks everything herself, so don't expect quick service. There's a robust menu - everything from sweet to savory! We ordered 4 empanadas and a side of potatoes, but I think we could have eaten more since the empanadas aren't very large. She brings out your empanadas to order, so they are hot and fresh. It also wasn't greasy at all, which is a huge plus. I liked all of the empanadas I tried, so I would definitely come back to try more. Interior wise, you wouldn't think the place sold empanadas because it's decorated like a Caribbean restaurant (not sure if she shares the space or just never updated the interior). There's a small section in the front where local shop goods are displayed too. After having Madeline's at a friend's birthday, I added them to my list to check out the store front and dine in. My friend and I went on a Friday evening and we were excited to try the empanadas. There was no parking so we had to be very creative and we parked on the sidewalk next to the restaurant. We walked in and sat at the bar and browsed the menu. The owner came out and greeted us as the waitress took our order. I tried almost every non-meat option and they were all good. We stayed for about an hour and then left. Madeline's is a small minority owned business that certainly needs community support. This place is probably the closest vegan friendly places near my home. I found out the place from Yelp and was excited to try it. It is located in middle town avenue, New Haven (close to exit 8 on I91). I opted for pickup from here on Earth Day and my order got ready promptly. It seems they have a limited parking availability. So it's best suited for a quick take out. The lady who worked there was super friendly. Now coming to the menu, although it's a limited menu, most options seem very interesting. There are plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans. We ordered Congri (rice and bean) and Funguy (mushroom) both vegan, sweet plantains, jalapeño popper (vegetarian) and Yardi (chicken empanada). I like the rice and bean empanada but mushroom one was ok ish, I wish they sliced it smaller than leaving big mushroom chunks. My family liked the jalapeño popper empanada the most. What a great little spot! Their empanadas are fantastic, and we really appreciated the variety that was offered here. If we had to pick a favorite, it would be the Meek Philly! The banana pudding one was a great way to end the meal, and the touch of mozzarella inside was an interesting and tasty addition. Loved all our sides, and the Coca Cola wings were great! I ordered this to go as a celebratory cheat meal because I am about low carb life now. The empanadas here are really good, but they are small. You can definitely get away with buying four per person if you are especially hungry. I definitely enjoyed the tostones and the sauces that came with it. Phenom!! I've been waiting to post a review so I could include a picture but I always eat my food too quickly and forget. Madeline's catered my birthday food last year, and I've been a regular customer ever since. There are also Artist Nights and the ambiance is eclectic, creative and warm. This empanadas place is amazing--it was so fresh and light. I got my order through DoorDash so I wasn't able to come in, but this was a great dinner. I ordered clasicos, cheese, guava, and the curry chicken. All of them were great! They are generous with their fillings. I recommend the clasicos! I AM SO IMPRESSED! We had a Sweet Flame, Roasted Green, Sizzling Sausage, Cheeseburger, Meek Philly, and Birria. Absolutely zero complaints about anything! Madeline's food truck was at NEBCO on Friday night. I went up to the truck and they advised they were sold out of everything but Yucca fries so I said I would take an order of Yucca fries, she advised it would be 10-15 min. I said no problem and returned to my table and continued drinking. About 10 minutes later she shuts the door on the ordering window, starts the truck and takes off. Very unprofessional, I would of rather her tell me they were sold out and not taking anymore orders. Also when you're sold out of everything but one item you should probably remove the sandwich board that has your menu on it or write SOLD OUT on it. BTW the woman who took my order was very polite just didn't make my food or advise me that I wouldn't be getting my order. Woukd of loved to try their food but this experience has completely turned me off from them read more
