Our yard was unsaveable and the HOA was breathing down our necks. We bit the bullet and got 3 estimates to have the old sod removed and new sod replaced. We chose Madewell because they were reasonably priced and didn't try to BS us like the other two. Not sure why some contractors think eveyone is ignorant just because they dont want to be bothered with doing the job themselves. We did our homework. This was a 3 stage process. Stage one...spay and kill off the the old grass and weeds. Stage 2...the next week they removed all the old dead grass and weeds. Stage 3...laying of the new sod, which actually happened over a month later because of COVID-19 and waiting for good healthy sod. They also adjusted all the sprinklers if needed to make sure there was adequate coverage. The sod was delivered from the sod company and looked beautiful and healthy. We watered for 30 min, 2x a day for a month. Our lawn is absolutely beautiful and healthy and by week 3 had already taken to the soul. We get compliments all the time. My neighbors are probably just happy not be looking at a dirt yard any longer. Things that I found issue with along the way: clean-up wasn't as good as I would have liked, but I am very particular; and communication was not the best. We had to replace our septic tank & we needed new sod after the septic was replaced. We called Madewell & there were no rollers used, We were told the new sod would grow together with the old grass. It didn't & after Ian it really opened up! We were told that they would come out to correct it three Wednesdays ago, They never came & never answered phone calls or texts. We hired Will and his team for our landscaping needs when we moved to our new house. We spent almost 10k since our property was full of dirt, weeds, shrubbery and trees. We were working on a budget so we decided on having them clear the yards, trim and remove shrubs and trees, lay new sod, and put pea gravel in areas. A couple of weeks after they finished, I noticed some sod in the backyard turning brown. I figured maybe it just needs time to root some more but it quickly started going down hill. One of the palm trees they removed from the front yard grew back immediately and lifted up a huge patch of sod. I texted Will numerous times to get it fixed without a follow up at first but he did eventually text me back and apologized as his team was pretty busy. He did eventually send someone out to get it removed but of course the sod was dead after that.. Will asked about the sod in the back and I told him it wasn't doing well but he assured me it wasn't dead so I assumed it would recover...it never did lol quickly more issues followed. First, they didn't lay landscaping fabric down for the mulch border so weeds grew...then I noticed weeds growing in the side pea gravel yard and found a 1ft gap between the two landscaping fabrics so weeds emerged...after more work investigating I found out they only used 2 landscaping pins to secure the fabric in like a 30 ft long area. I found broken tile, trash, giant pieces of concrete all under the fabric. Then the sod in the backyard died. I dug up the brown stolens and found that the sod never rooted because there were giant surface level tree roots right below the patches of sod. I also found a random pink plastic cap underneath one area of dead sod. They laid sod over brick and a cement pad? They laid sod on the water meter area where the city checks so the city had to dig up sod.... I've had to fix all their mistakes myself which is challenging since I'm a single parent of 2 babies while my husband is away for military training. We spent the money to get this done because I wanted to be able to fill mine and my children's time with outdoor activities and play while their dad is away but we've had to fix mistakes that could've been avoided if they were just more careful and passionate about their work....pretty disappointing. Lesson learned on this bad investment. read more

Their prices were very reasonable compared to other companies. The crew was friendly and professional and fast. After the initial installation I needed some adjustments made to existing heads after new sod was installed and they came right out to make those additional adjustment quickly. We thought we had a small irrigation leak and then woke up in the morning to find water spewing into the street. I called Madewell in a panic and he rearranged his work to come out as soon as possible to assess the issue, turns out we had a main line water leak due to a huge oak tree. He assured me he could fix the problem and a couple hours later after some major root hacking the problem was solved. We really appreciated them taking the problem seriously, being very understanding and taking care of the issue probably much cheaper than a plumer. Had a broken main irrigation line to my sprinklers and requested quotes for the repair. Will was one of the first to answer my request and said he could be out the next day (on a weekend). If I could give 1/2 star, I would. My issues began last year, and Madewell had difficulty discovering why my pump would not work after re-locating pvc pipe. After several hours of my turning the pump on and off and opening/closing spigots, water began to flow. This could have been diagnosed by a pro within half an hour. A month later the pipe into the lake floated to the top, and I had no water. I was told Will the owner would be out there. He sent his workers and he never showed. Now, a year later I have a floating pipe in another spot. I called and was told it would be this week and I would get a confirmation call. Nothing! read more

Was able to get an estimate and response after sending a few pictures of a broken sprinkler head. Other companies wanted to inspect in person and charge a fee just to come out. This company will always be our number 1 spot now. Will just completed a big job for us. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about Will. His work is amazing. Our irrigation system was put in by DR Horton (Joke) it never covered the area so my grassed would die. I would have to go out and water it myself. Who really has that time or should I say even want to? Will thought outside the box since I have such a big yard. It was like day and night as far as my system. For what he has done now it will cover my area correctly. He never tried to sell me anything. He and his brother are hard working. I have cameras on my back and yes I did watch them LOL. I always saw them working. He was always on time and even if he was 3 mins late he text me to let me know. He honestly is a good person. He knows his job and takes great pride in it.
