I really loved it, and I'm proud to have gone there, but with the school's reputation getting worse and the marching band having gone downhill since I graduated in 2005, this school is most likely on its way out. I'm going back one last time for alumni band, and to bid my high school band director farewell and a happy retirement, but beyond that, it kills me to admit that I could care less. We had a little bit of everything. An English teacher who reportedly slept with a male student and had his kid (years before I attended the school), a math teacher who slept with the senior cheerleaders so they'd get A's and graduate (it was on the local news for years after!), a football team that never wins, and a long-standing rivalry with West High School. During my years there (2001-2005), we had three different principals, and only Mr. Shreiber was worth anything. Our band director, Mr. Aaron Jackson, has been lauded through the years as the best teacher in the entire school - every teacher has a story about AJ and his band students, which we honestly can't say about any of the other teachers. I won't deny that I could've gotten a better education at another school. I might have had more opportunities at another school. At the time, though, Briggs was the best fit. I'd spent three horrific and hellish years at the absolute worst middle school in the city - on the complete opposite side of town - and going to Briggs was coming home. I really don't know how gay-friendly the school is now, but it was weird while I was there. The gay guys were out and proud and everyone accepted them. God forbid a lesbian came out at any point during her time there. There were a grand total of four lesbians in the marching band, and only one came out during high school. She dropped out because of the toxic and hateful environment. The other three - including myself - learned from her experience and came out after our respective graduations and have been treated well. In summation, Briggs was great for me while I was there, it was a good school before I was there, but after I graduated, it's gone downhill pretty fast.

This is, in fact, the Franklin County Board of Developmental Disabilities Early Childhood Education Center. The school serves students with and without disabilities which is awesome! Front desk staff are very friendly and make check in easy. You must check in if you are a parent or a visitor. The school is pretty updated and it well kept. The restrooms were nice and clean. They are also very spacious -- this is likely due to the fact that this is a Special Needs school and kids with gross motor difficulties need space to do their business! The halls are also very spacious and well decorated. There are so many resources here. They serve 700 students aged 6 weeks to 6 years. There are many services including OT, PT and other specialists. They have multiple partnerships including the YMCA for childcare and OSU dentistry! Head Start too! It's very comprehensive. They have a "Wonder Lab" that helps kids regulate their emotions. This is awesome for kids emotional needs. It has weighted pillows, fiber optic lights and a water bed! This place really has it together!

First, the strong support and encouragements given by teachers and staff. My children know all teachers, and they know them. Everyday they come home to stories about how this teacher helped them this day and another, the next. When we have had issues arise, I have always been impressed by how communicative the teachers have been and how receptive they are to listen to my concerns, and those of my child. It truly has been a loving environment from day one. Second, tying to the support and encouragement, I have seen amazing academic results each year because of teachers taking the time to address individual needs and work with my children. My children feel confident when it comes to learning and have been well prepared when it's come time to take tests. Third, I love the fact my kids are growing in their Catholic faith through partaking in community service, attending mass weekly, and daily religious instruction. I feel confident that they are becoming good stewards of their faith and better and more compassionate human beings because of it. Lastly, I love the sense of community. Parents and students alike enjoy spending time at the school and school functions. The smaller class sizes facilitates getting to know each family and it also encourages and enables any and everyone to be involved with the school. They have taught me so much about how to deal positively with conflict, emotional and behavior issues in my own kids. The kids get lots of outside time, do field trips, and have classrooms where they are encouraged to develop lots of different skills in an age-appropriate way. Parents are encouraged to be involved in one of many events throughout the year including a carnival, halloween party, and things co-sponsored with the church in which the center is housed. We even attended a parenting skills class taught by some of the senior instructors at the center and learned a lot. Kids can sign up for optional activities like yoga, music or dance classes. They also offer week-long summer camps. Unfortunately Clintonville has far too few childcare facilities, so there is a waitlist for the full-time program. Sign up before you need it, or enroll in the part-time program while you wait. Openings in the summer and after school programs go first to current students/siblings/former students, so going there for preschool is a good way to get your foot in the door if you are looking for options once they are in elementary school.

The track is setup around a really nice football field and the officials were very professional for the event. The school grounds were kept up nicely and the track was well established. The setup was really nice as they had bathrooms centrally located and the food shack was well stocked with hot and cold foods.
