The desserts were minimal and not what we expected - especially since we've been on the bakery tour by the same company and absolutely loved it. Based on that experience, we expected much more. Two of the four "desserts" were a pre-packaged cookie and chocolate, which didn't feel festive or special for a holiday-themed tour. Another thing not clearly mentioned is that the tour includes a lot of group sing-alongs. While that may be fun for some, it felt like filler after the first few songs and went on longer than necessary. Becca was very patient and kind with the children on the tour, which we appreciated. However, the presentation itself could have been more polished - there were several moments where information was forgotten or counting had to be redone, which made the tour feel a bit disorganized. Overall, the tour could easily be condensed to about two hours and would need to be priced lower to better match the quality and quantity of desserts. It wasn't terrible, but it didn't live up to expectations given the cost and past experiences with this company.

We loved hearing all the fun facts about the buildings we passed and the eateries we visited, which added so much to the experience. As out-of-staters, we never would have thought to explore Brady Street on our own, so it was really cool to discover a whole new part of the city while eating amazing food. Highly recommend!

Great friends (with the "ugliest tree sweaters" in the attached photo) organized it for us, and it turned out to be one of the most fun and memorable experiences we've had! Devin was an outstanding host--knowledgeable, engaging, and genuinely passionate about Galena's food scene. The tour was perfectly paced, the food stops were excellent, and the holiday twist made it even better. The ugly sweater theme added so much energy and laughter, and Devin leaned into it in a way that made everyone feel relaxed and included. What really made the experience special was the atmosphere. We went with great friends, had a blast together, and also met wonderful new people along the way. It felt less like a "tour" and more like a festive day out with friends--old and new. If you're looking for a fun, social, and delicious way to experience Galena--especially around the holidays--this tour is a must. We would do it again in a heartbeat and can't recommend Devin and Galena Foodie Tours highly enough.

I've been on food tours where they give you a few bites of something - not here, this was a super generous amount of food. Everything in this tour is connected to honey somehow. Classic things you know your'e going to like (honey lemonade yes please!), but unique things I wouldn't have tried on my own too. Everything was delicious. There was a full wine tasting at one of the stops, with I think 5-6 different wine/alcohol samples and a super educational explanation by the owner. And it finished with a honey tasting led by Dry Creek Beekeeping. That was really fun - I never thought honey could taste so different! And of course a glass of mead. And last but definitely not least, Devin the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable both about food and the history of Galena. It was part history tour, part food tour, and he was an awesome guide in both. He had such a natural way in front of the group, and was nice to chat with along the way too. This is a must-do tour during your visit. It was our family's favorite thing we did on our trip. Come hungry!!

July 28, 2025 - ordered tickets for my mom, my sister and me…read more August 1 - asked for a refund for my mom's ticket, her sister-in-law passed away and she would have to be traveling to Utah for the funeral. Mind you the website says no refunds, but I thought I would ask (the two other places we schedule tours with gave us a refund and I was appreciative). August 4 - I get an email - all three tickets or just one? August 5 - just one, my mom's, my sister and I are still coming. August 7 - am I able to get a refund? August 11 - I can get a refund, but they need to add a $13 tour insurance fee and I can get a partial refund. August 11 - I reply - that works. (Something is better than nothing.) August 15 - am I getting a partial refund? August 21 - am I getting a partial refund? So here comes the partial review - I can't even get into all of it - your head would explode... Within the first five minutes the tour guide talks about how his boss makes up stories. (I take a deep breath and say, zone out, enjoy the beautiful weather and trolley ride.) He starts off a story - "It was a dark night..., no, it wasn't a dark night, it's dark tonight." Head slap! We're parked in a cemetery, he shines his light on a headstone, then says, wait, that's not him. He then proceeds to tell a story about people putting coins on the headstones, then says no, they were rocks (which I, me, writing this, believe is a Jewish custom), then he proceeds to talk about the coins laid on the headstones. What the what?! The final crack up was near the end of the tour where the guide brings up Annabelle (which I only am vaguely familiar with seeing movie trailers, being 53 and the youngest guest on the tour), I have no idea how he is incorporating this into the tour as my sister turns to me and says - who is Annabelle? We drove around for 30 minutes after the tour to burn off energy, laugh at the ridiculous things the tour guide said and decompress. We were open to a fun, interesting evening. For most of the tour I zoned out and just looked out the window. To me what the driver was saying was too rehearsed. For me the best part was the cemetery which I went back to on my own the next day and wondered around. For me the tour was okay but won't do it again. This was easily the most expensive trip we have ever booked, and we did it through Travelex International in Barrington Illinois. An issue came up where one of the travel finders wanted to levy a $500 penalty for a documentation change. When I asked Judy F. our sales person to help the resolve the issue, her response was "I am just the messenger", "I don't make the policies.". For context, I have a unique spelling for my middle name and Judy was completely clueless as to the challenges of having a name that is different from Bob, Dave or Sally. Her response and lack of initiative was so lackluster that it made me wonder if the company is unfriendly towards people who are different or minorities in general. I was taken aback, and still struggle to how understand person can bill themselves as a "Concierge" experience with such poor service and lack of empathy for the customer. Never again. To the owners, I would highly suggest they look beyond their current hiring practices and strive to bring on a more diverse staff that better understand the needs of people form different demographics. I realize there are many Travelex International locations. The one I am referring to is at 2061 N Barrington Road. Perhaps the other Travelex International locations offer better customer service.
