I've lived in Madison since 2014, and somehow there are still so many places I've never explored. That's what inspired me to step outside my routine and become a tourist in my own city by joining a Madison Eats Food Tour bike tour--and I'm so glad I did! Our adventure began at Garver Feed Mill, where we picked up bikes and set off to discover Madison one bite at a time. What surprised me most was how much I learned about the city's history. Even after living here for more than a decade, I heard stories and facts about Madison that were completely new to me. The food stops were fantastic and showcased the diversity of Madison's local food scene: * Kosha Retreat - The kitchari and chai tea were incredibly comforting. The kitchari felt like a warm hug from grandma on a chilly day. * Roll Play - The spicy tteokkochi paired perfectly with the sweet peach lemonade. A delicious balance of heat and sweetness. * Buraka on Willy Street - The sampler plate was excellent, but the yuca fries stole the show. Easily some of the best I've ever had. * Starkweather Brewing - We enjoyed cauliflower wings, fried chickpeas, and a Helen Mule. The fresh-made sauces were absolutely delicious and elevated every bite. * Calliope Ice Cream - The aguapanela sorbet sounded unusual at first, but it was incredible. Think brown sugar lemonade in frozen form--refreshing, unique, and completely dairy-free. One of my favorite parts of the experience was being intentional about supporting local businesses. It's easy to get comfortable visiting the same places over and over, but this tour reminded me just how many amazing small businesses make Madison such a special city. Whether you're a longtime resident, new to town, or visiting for the weekend, I highly recommend this tour. It's a fun way to explore the city, learn local history, meet new people, and discover hidden gems you may have otherwise overlooked. This was a great experience with the Atwood Brew & Chew tour. I was in town to run a half marathon and had not previously been to the town of Madison. This was a great way to explore a local neighborhood, try a variety of food and drinks, and learn about the history of the area. Everything we tried was wonderful. Levi, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and friendly. I'm going to search my town when I return to see if there is anything similar where I live. read more

I booked the $48.99, 3-hour Atwood Brew and Chew Tour for a Tuesday night at 6:30p. I was very happy at the price as I am used to paying more for just 2-hour tours. On this tour we had a food item at all the following stops: 1) The Alchemy Café Tour meeting location. Beer sample included. Sampled the Batch Bakehouse Grilled Bread with daily dip. Sampled the twice fried Sweet Potato fries with jam. 2) Harmony Bar & Grill Sampled cheese curds. Sampled The Classic Reuben. Sampled a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie. 3) Next Door Brewing Co Beer sample included. Brief brewery tour included by one of the restaurant's partners. Sampled the Yam Crisps with chermoula sauce. 4) Lao Laan-Xang Atwood Sampled Beef Lao. 5) Tex Tubb's Taco Palace Dessert stop - sampled the Sopapilla Sundae which is a crispy fried cinnamon sugar bowl filled with vanilla ice cream and drizzled with chocolate sauce. Any full sized drink included. I liked all the food that we were given. It was all at local, non-chain places. The cheese curds were the only true Madison dish however. Stop 1 was my favorite. Stop 2 was my least favorite - it was the least physically appealing place and the most basic food option. It was also running behind and was the place that put our tour a bit behind schedule. Atwood is a neighborhood to the east of downtown and easily accessible whether via a ~$6 UberX ride or a $3 B-Cycle ride down the Capitol City Trail which is a mostly off road, smooth trail. I've done lots of food tours and each one is different in terms of how much food is served, how much history is included, how much walking occurs, how long you stay at each stop, etc... This tour contained just over 1 mile or about 20 minutes of walking, though on flat smooth surfaces. Some of the walking between stop 3 & 4 was on the Capitol City Trail past community gardens. Portion sizes on this tour were large, possibly only owing to the fact that there were three people total on the tour. At each stop we sat down inside the restaurant and were served by a waitress. We had ample time at each stop to eat. Some history was included as we walked between stops, but I have been on tours where more information was provided. The guide and company owner, Otehlia, was personably, and knowledge and willing to answer questions. She was engaging with the group and created a good dynamic. read more

It was a sunny day in Madison, and Patrick was our tour guide. We went on the downtown taste of Madison and sampled some cheese, drinks, pasties, Korean food, and a dessert. On Sunday we went on a brunch tour with Madison Eats Food Tours. Stopped at the eastwood BCycle station and started with pastries and banquettes from Batch Bakehouse-local bakery with some great roots. One of the owners came out and chatted with us on their philosophy's, as well as a huge cookie sheet full of goodies. It was a quick bike ride to the first location, and about a 20 min stop. Next a little longer ride to Heritage Tavern for eggs benedict and a taste of their popular cocktail- not a favorite of mine, but if you like cream soda you may like it. For that ride we were in the main street most of the time, which is not my comfort zone. So that was more stress inducing being next to cars and cars behind us. But made it there and was able to relax in air conditioning from the 90 degree day. We next biked back to the near east side (longest trip) and tried the new restaurant, Ogden's North Street Diner where we were served pancakes, scrambles-tofu and bacon and broccoli, hash browns , toast and their cherry pie with fresh/homemade whip cream! --Great breakfast joint, if you like cherry pie-good stop was amazing! Next we biked back to the Eastwood Bcycle station and dropped off our bikes. All together we started at 11 and was bake to the bike station around 3. So for 4 hours 3 restaurants and biking- my butt was sore haha! However not done just yet, then walked about 3 blocks to our last stop-Next Door Brewing for beer, wings, Yam chips and cheese curds. I only stayed at the last place for about 20 minutes then headed home. All in all, if you are a local looking for a new adventure, or someone visiting from out of town i would definitely recommend! **Keep in mind you should be aware of how to ride a bike around light traffic comfortably-if you're not-i may not pick this tour for you.** We had a group of 12 people, about $50 a person, and 4+ hours of activities and food to keep you full! Was a great tour of east/downtown Madison area! I would do it again. read more

We live in Madison, so I saw the "Ethnic Eats" food tour option for Willy (Williamson) Street and decided to check in with Otehlia (the proprietor) and see if there might be some vegan options available. I knew some of the restaurants on this list, so I knew I had a shot... Otehlia went the extra mile and checked in with each establishment, and let me know we were set to go. When we got to the event, she announced that this would be "the vegan tour!" Every place we went had vegan meals to serve. I could not have been more spoiled and delighted. For someone who is used to making due with a mixed greens salad in exchange for being social, I was in heaven. We attended Bandung, where the owner was so gracious and talked to us personally. Then we went to Gib's for a cocktail (our second of the evening), in place of the usual stop at Underground Butcher (thank you). Then we went to Buraka for Ethiopian food, where I purchased a cocktail but we had enough food to feed 20 people, and again got to chat with the owner. Next stop was El Sabor de Puebla. There was some confusion here on the owner's part, but to my mind it was minor - even so, Otehlia issued everyone a partial refund afterwards. However, we had the best mole sauce I feel that I've ever eaten there, and I got to take most of is home, and I ain't mad! Last stop was Lao Laan-Xang, and the proprietor there was so friendly, funny, and the food was fantastic. Again, a feast for twice as many, plus dessert, and I took food home. We had a new tour guide, and she was so sweet and fairly nervous. Once she settles in to the job, she will be great and the tour will be even more relaxed and casual. My feeling is that folks want to be led to the food and drinks and there is little pressure to do much else except provide the experience (don't worry Otehlia, you guys are great!!) Also be ready to do some walking on this tour - we enjoyed it but it might be harder for some groups (I think ME has tours with less walking). My brother and his fiancee came in from LA, and they prefer to eat vegetarian also. I also wanted them to see some great eateries in Madison, and we only had one night that we were going out to eat. This is such a great way to sample several great places in Madison, learn a little history, and hear from the owners themselves about their personal stories and cuisine point-of-view. For the price, it is a great value for doing so (we basically had five huge meals and two cocktails each). As locals, now we know more about places we'd like to go back to. So glad we did it, and I'm personally knocked out by the way I was catered to for my dietary choices. :) Thanks ladies! read more

We booked a last minute private, corporate food tour with Madison Eats Food Tour and they were extremely flexible and accommodating. We changed the number of people attending several times (ended up being 18 people), but it was easy as could be! We all loved the tour, which is not always possible with 18 people. We started off with pork buns and bibambop at Graze, then wood-fired pizza and daiquiri shooters at Lucille's, and then bratwurst and beer at Great Dane, and finished up with ice cream on the Terrace.
