Inn at the Mill - Ascend Hotel (Springdale)…read more This felt more like a retreat than a hotel! Centrally located to everything, yet feels like you're in your own wilderness paradise. LOBBY: If you enjoy history, step into a unique historical lobby that was once a Mill Plant. You will find so many original historical artifacts. Original thick wooden beams, an old white door next to the fireplace and above it, you will find some of the original carvings of some numbers when workers needed to write something down. By the breakfast area, you will see a big green Mill. When you check-in, they have a big jar, offering complimentary giant cookies; chocolate chip, macadamia nuts and Raisins. WI-FI: Wi-Fi doesn't work well on the first floor. My first night I could not get the Wi-Fi to work. When I went to the front desk to ask if they were having issues with their Wi-Fi, the friendly lady said, "First floor usually has issues connecting. But, I'd be happy to move you to the second floor, where our main router is located." I was surprised how kind she was and offered to move me. I took her up on the offer and the service was much better on the second floor. ROOM(S): As you walk to your room(s), do keep in mind the hallways on the first floor has great A/C, while the second floor doesn't. The rooms A/C do work great. My first room was 115. The rooms was nice, clean and spacious. I had a king bed that was really comfortable with a desk, chair and a brown shelve with small TV inside. It doesn't have a microwave. It does have a small fridge. My second room was 214. When I walked in to this room, she did a complimentary upgrade to a King Suite. If you are looking to stay here, you won't go wrong booking the King Suite. My room was really spacious. The king bed was very clean and comfortable. It had a comfortable couch, a coffee table in front of it and a working desk with a chair. The TV was bigger in this room and modern, vs. room 115. BATHROOM(S): Both rooms had good bathrooms. I would say the sink countertops were small with limited space. Shower space was a bit small. The towels were ok, but I would recommend to elevate them to a premium material. Toilet paper was premium quality. STAFF: They were absolutely exceptional. They love every guest that comes through their doors. You can tell they genuinely take pride in this Boutique Hotel. They are more than happy to share with you some of the history about it. That really stood out to me. The staff here are not your typical hotel staff. They're just good different. You need to experience their genuine hospitality. BREAKFAST: Since this hotel is part of Choice Hotels, I expected mediocre breakfast, after previously staying at some of Choice Hotels. Not here. You get real plates and utensils, not plastic ware. They really do put out a good spread for their guests. They have cheese and meats plates, croissants and muffins. Bagels, toasts, four different cereals, yogurt and variety of drinks. They offer a smaller fridge with complimentary beverages throughout your entire stay. They do brew fresh coffee throughout the day that you can come down to the breakfast area and grab any time you wish. Another thing that stood out to me about their breakfast service is how attentive and non-judgmental they are if you come to get breakfast right at 9AM. That's usually when breakfast stops being served. About fifteen minutes before, they will come out from the kitchen area and remind you, "Breakfast will stop being served by 9AM, and I will start putting stuff away. Feel free to grab anything and everything you want before I put it all away." There were few guests that came in at 9:15AM and the staff didn't refuse. Instead, offered the same thing to grab anything they would like. OVERALL: I would highly recommend this Boutique Hotel. To elevate their hotel, add microwaves in their rooms. It's a unique hotel. The staff do their absolute best to accommodate every guest. Do go and explore the outdoors of this hotel. They offer seating areas and lounging spots to unwind.

I especially appreciated that the outlets were located in convenient places around the room, which makes a difference when traveling with phones, chargers, and devices. The air conditioning worked very well and kept the room comfortable all night. The common areas were also clean and well maintained. The lobby had a welcoming feel, the indoor pool area was bright and inviting, and the breakfast area was organized and easy to use. Breakfast was decent, and I was pleasantly surprised to see they offered a turkey sausage patty in addition to the regular breakfast items. One thing worth noting is that they no longer keep coffee makers in every room as part of their sustainability policy. Instead, they offer fresh coffee in the lobby 24 hours a day. It means a little extra walking, but the sign explained that it is part of their effort to reduce single-use waste, which I can appreciate. Also, the front desk can provide a coffee maker if requested. The only minor issue was that the downstairs beverage machine did not have a water option because that feature was broken during our stay.
