I just left an artist reception at LithaMoon and was amazed! This is definitely a treasure in…read moreDowntown Greensboro that you need to uncover. Tonight's showcase was stunning and was such a unique contrast to last month's showing of art. The pieces here are unique yet stunning - like artwork you'd see in large museums. The perk? It is located in a quaint downtown area close to other shopping and dining. The curator is VERY friendly and knowledgeable and takes the time to walk with you and discuss the pieces. She is a resource you'll want to tap into when it comes to the history of the area as well as the techniques behind the artists' pieces that come through. To summarize: make this a stop on your trip to Greensboro! Actually, make a trip for it. You'll be able to soak up some of Georgia's best kept artists and even take pieces home with you. Also, if scheduling allows, make sure to attend an artist reception where you get to meet and chat one-on-one with the talent behind the pieces. This is truly a gem of a spot!

The gift shop has cute and creative things all year, but the draw at this time of the year (fall) is the huge annual pottery sale. There is a lot of variety and some beautiful creations by artists from all over the south. It's a good opportunity appreciate the giftedness of many different potters and to buy unique gifts, for yourself and others.

It appears to be a former school auditorium. There is plenty of parking, but it was hard to see initially. We entered via 3rd Street and drove by a baseball field. The OCAF is on a rise about 5 - 8 feet above the level of the road, so you can't really see its closest parking lot until you walk or drive up. I moved the car closer after I realized there was a parking lot up there. You enter past the office and along a hallway of displays of pottery / art for sale. There is also a table with historical objects from the building's school history. The exhibit space was at the end of the hall in the former auditorium. It was laid out as you might expect, with works displayed around the perimeter walls and on some freestanding wall segments in the center of the space. This exhibit was nice, but as I said it was temporary. I assume they rotate other exhibits through the space. This was within a 15-minute drive of Athens, so if you are in that area it is easy to check this place out. We drove out from Atlanta and stopped a a few places on the route, but if you drove straight through it would probably take at least 90 minutes to get here. Depending on what they have on display this is worth a stop.
