Reasonable Turkish food The food was quite good at this Turkish restaurant in the Southbank dining precinct. We were quite disappointed with the Manti though - it was described as dumplings/ravioli, but turned out to be a plate of very expensive pasta! everything else was quite delicious! I've been here twice now and the food was great on both occasions. The Kofte Izgara is my favourite, and the chicken casserole was unexpectedly delicious (I'm typically not a fan of casseroles lol). I found the serving sizes for some of the dishes to be quite large so if you've got a small appetite, keep that in mind. Definitely check this place out if you're in the mood for Turkish. read more

It's hard to review this place without bursting out in capital letters. But screw it. MADO IS THE BEST TURKISH I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. A gastronomical delight, everything on menu is rich and oh so flavoursome. Words just cannot express the love I feel for the Musakka (a fragrant turkish eggplant and meat stew.) ground lamb layered with eggplant, with fresh tomatos and topped with cheese it was served with delicious fluffy rice (and made my stomach weep tiny tears of happiness.) (The groaning dessert counter is also well worth a visit, the sticky baklava and turkish delight was dee-licious!) This restaurant tucked away at the very end of southbank is lavishly decorated and full of turkish charm. (Especially the belly dancers on weekends!) But be sure to book ahead as this place does gets a lot of traffic. A definite must-try in Southbank! read more

Did you book?? Good. We can be friends now. Ok seeing as we are BFF's, let me tell you about the slice of Turkish heaven known as Mado. Mado is Miley Cyrus to Turkeys Robin Thicke. You're a little aroused by it, a little confused by it and wondering what those smells are. But the one thing you can be sure of, is you'll be talking about it for weeks to come. As you walk up to Mado, your nostrils are already flaring with the sweet scent of traditionally spiced lamb shish, garlic and the faint zesty notes of yogurt. It beckons you closer, adding subtle notes of fresh ground coffee, the much loved but always forgotten taste of rose water from the freshly prepared Turkish Delight. By now you're hooked, the always friendly staff know why you're here and pretend that your drooling words of sheer nonsense have translated to "Table for two please!" Its coming in to summer, so naturally you have chosen to sit outside. The seats are comfortable and the tables are both sizeable and well presented. Within minutes you have been provided a hard cover menu, and had your drinks orders taken. After cruising the menu, you remember that your old pal Karlen recommended the Dolma Sarma for entree and the Lamb Shish for your mains. So you order that, because he's a good guy and wouldn't steer you wrong. By now your drink is going down a treat and you're taking in the colourful surroundings. Within what feels like seconds, the entrees have arrived, and you have started drooling again. The entrees are delicious, and you've had to resist going caveman on your dinner guest for asking to try some of yours. Just as you're about to defend your plate for the fourth time in minutes, the air is filled with the sound of live bongos. The belly dancer has come out and is melting your face with her years of dancing experience (its a good thing you sat outside right?). While enjoying the entertainment, your main meals have been delivered and are heavily invading the free space on the table. To say these are generous helpings would be an understatement. The Lamb is fresh, the rice is herbed to perfection and the spiced mash is adding in that final note to send your mind to a busy turkish food market. Nows the time to share, you've got enough.. Hell, even offer tradesies with your neighbour, everyone is friends here. About halfway through your meal a mysterious man with friendly facial hair will come over and ask if you would like to have shisha tonight. No he isn't offering you drugs, and yes whatever it is, its going to be smoked out of a big glass pipe with a long hose. Now lets get serious for a moment just so there is no confusion. Shisha is a flavoured tobacco that is smoked through a device that uses water to filter the smoke. This is a million miles from smoking cigarettes, and does not contain any nasty chemicals, however it does have enough nicotine to give you a friendly head spin if you smoke a little too much too fast. Many of my non-smoking friends enjoy having shisha when we dine at Mado. With that out of the way, if you are interested in trying out the shisha, i would recommend asking for a mix of watermelon and mint in the one pipe. Coupling this with their fresh turkish coffee (with bonus side of that sweet sweet turkish delight) this is the perfect way to chat and digest all of that amazing food. The watermelon flavour is sweet, and the mint leaves your mouth feeling fresh and clean. The shisha pipe has enough to last three people for about an hour and a half. Its my friend's birthday. We had our dinner there. Definitely the best Turkish foods I have ever tasted. I had Turkish bread and mixed dip platter as entree. Their humus dip is too die for. So goooooood. For the main meal I had wood charcoal mixed grill that consists of scrumptious, juicy, specially marinated lamb cutlets, chicken cutlets and lamb patties served with aromatic rice and a creamy, cheesy mashed potato that I still think about everyday. So good I want to cry. I also had cheesy pide (Turkish pizza), it is a pizza-like pastry filled with cheddar and fetta cheese. Yes, its a combination of cheddar and fetta, how yummy is that? Can't never go wrong with cheese. And the drink, I had a Turkish lemonade, I think. Which turned out to be the best lemonade in the world. Me want more of that drink! Tried out their bread with humus dip as well as Lamb Shish (marinated and char grilled lamb skewers which comes with rice and mashed potato). The entree had already rendered me in awe as the bread was well-baked with a tad of crunchiness. Its taste was enriched by the humus dip with a harmonious combination between chick peas and garlic. The amazement did not cease when the main dish was served. The lamb skewers were perfectly grilled without the unpleasant scent that raw lamb usually has, not to mention the tenderness and juiciness experienced with every bite of it! Two sauces were provided to enrich the flavour of the lamb and they didn't disappoint me either! Their homemade mashed potato served together with the main dish deserves a compliment as well. All in all everything was good and seemed to match just nicely. Service-wise, the staff was friendly and courteous which made the ambiance even more comfortable.
