We recently had services from Madres Kitchen for an engagement party at my daughter's house. Michelle was incredibly helpful in planning a menu, and this accommodated both vegetarians and small children with a range of appetizers, entree and side dishes, and very delicious brownies and fruit for dessert. The food was delivered exactly on time in disposable containers that could keep things warm, and everything was delicious. It looked very colorful, all spread out, and our family really enjoyed it. Erika and the team at Madres Kitchen are amazing! We worked with them for our wedding (60 guests) in March of this year, and used them for full-service catering (taco bar), bartending, and day-of coordinator services. It was incredibly easy to work with them. I planned my own wedding, so it was important to me to work with vendors who were organized, professional, and could help me fill in the blanks when needed. Erika was very responsive to my many questions, and met with me multiple times to walk through the day-of timeline template she'd created (which I was also able to share with other vendors so that everyone was on the same page). In addition to day-of timing, Erika also helped us plan the layout at the venue, which we needed for the ceremony, dinner, and dance floor; she and her team did a beautiful job of setting up the space just as we'd envisioned it. And the food - oh my gosh the food was SO GOOD...and our guests agreed! Additionally, we had some waitstaff for the family tables, and the staff was so kind and helpful. The team truly went above and beyond to make sure our guests were comfortable, and that we were happy throughout the wedding celebration. Erika and the Madres Kitchen team exceeded our expectations for our wedding day catering! We used Madres for their full-service catering, bartending, linen/tabletop rentals, and day-of-coordinator services. From the initial proposal (which was very detailed!) to the tastings to the wedding day, we felt well-taken care of and knew our guests wouldn't leave our event hungry! Erika and the chefs worked with us to craft an entirely plant-based menu that was truly delicious. Erika was our day-of coordinator and met with us several times to go over the timeline, menu, dinner table and decor setup, and a myriad of other details to make sure that everyone knew what had to happen when and how. Our table place settings were set perfectly and our decor was placed to our specifications. She made sure that my husband and I had a celebratory drink in hand when signing our marriage license immediately following the ceremony, she rounded up a plate of appetizers for us to enjoy while waiting to make our reception entrance, and helped keep the event on track even when the lightning storm of the decade hit our September outdoor wedding! She helped pack up our car and sent us off with leftover food (that was devoured at the hotel almost immediately). Take note that the services we required were "full-service", meaning that Madres was there for setup with their mobile kitchen and tear down and disposal at the end of the night. We had a few servers for the passed apps and bartenders for the beer and wine service. (Shoutout to the bartenders! Our guests have brought up multiple times how nice they were!) We also opted for the additional day-of coordinator services. Erika coordinated the rentals for table linens, stoneware, glassware, and flatware. And, of course, they provided all the delicious food! This was a large number of services requiring many hours and several staff members. Needless to say, catering and all the associated labor involved was one of the big ticket items in our budget. However, we were so happy with the level of service and quality of the menu we received, that we feel the pricing was more than fair! We were also so pleasantly surprised with how the food and bar were setup! I honestly hadn't given this much thought and I was so struck by how beautiful everything looked. Madres provided signage and some decor for the buffet and bar (complete with "B-A-R" lettering). The dinner buffet was staged beautifully and made everything look just as amazing as it tasted. Our photographer, Tanya of Tetiana Photography, was so excited to see the buffet that she asked my husband and I to wait a moment before serving ourselves so she could snap a few pics! Madres have been nothing but wonderful when it came to hiring them as our wedding caterer. They really love their work, and it shows! We tried 3 caterers in one day, and the food they gave us to try was hands down the best. My parents and I had an endless list of questions, and they never seemed to mind. They've been nothing but accurate, timely, pleasant, and humorous in all of our communications. (There are a lot of communications for a wedding!) When the dancing started, I was happy to see them getting down while they were still working. I am SO glad we picked them for our caterers. Madres Kitchen catered my 40th birthday party. They were a joy to work with from bringing to end. During the quoting process they were able to customize a menu that fit my budget and planning was made easy with their friendly staff. The night of the party we had three staff who pulled off a delicious spread with efficiency, friendliness and talent. The party was so wonderful! Everyone had a great time and several people commented on how great the foods was! The staff were extremely skilled, efficient, clean, fast and friendly. They were so, so kind to box up our food and help with so much of the clean up. I will definitely hire Madres Kitchen again if the opportunity arises. read more

Madres makes a delicious taco with all the accompaniments you could ask for. The server was fantastic at getting setup and was a genuine pleasure to be around. Downside - They were at least 1-1.5 hours late and then had to set up. With only one staff member, it took a while until the group was able to eat. While the wait was worth it in terms of food, it was embarrassing to have recommended Madres and have them show up so late. read more

I found Madres Kitchen through vendor fairs. A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to order from them to cater a work event. I love supporting a woman-owned green small local business. They get their food and drinks from organic and sustainable sources whenever possible. I ordered sweet potato and black bean quesadillas, cheese and cracker platters, veggie spring rolls, Thai chicken skewers, cookies, brownies and organic coffee. It was all delicious and healthy! My husband and I had Madres cater our October 2011 wedding at Mt. Baker Community Clubhouse and we couldn't be more pleased with the great job they did! Actually, they were the first and only caterer we met with, but we were so comfortable with them from the very first meeting (and the food was delicious -- we loved their hazelnut-crusted salmon in particular) that we decided to go with them right away. Madres was so gracious and responsive to our millions of questions leading up to the event and so understanding about our continuous need to change numbers, tweak the menu, etc. They understand how important budget is and are happy to tailor a menu to work within it. They are truly a full-service caterer, and will do everything from setting up your decorations to taking the garbage out. They are also honest and straightforward, and there were zero tacked-on hidden charges. Kristen (one of the owners) was in charge of our event and she did a great job leading her team. They all worked very hard to make sure everything got done on schedule. Madres has our hearty recommendation! And if you are having your event at Mt. I loved working with Madres Kichen! Kristen was flexible, full of ideas, and really accommodating with our million changes leading up to the event, and was very quick and responsive to the changes and questions. They also let us bring our own alcohol, with very affordable bar package, which worked out really well for us. The actual event went very well as well, and the staff was amazing! They were quick with set up and clean up, and more than accommodating with last minute changes during the event. Both Osiris and Rocio were fantastic - cannot say enough good things about them! Rocio made several suggestions in terms of layouts, timeline, lighting, etc. which definitely made the event even better! As the sole event planner of the night, I was so busy running around like a headless chicken making sure that everything - including live band, DJ, late arriving guests, etc. - was going okay, so it was so helpful to have a second set of eyes and ideas! Just for one example, I really thought we will not have much room for dancing when the band started, but the captain came and asked me if we would like them to start clearing the tables away so we could have a room for dancing. They were quick and quiet about it and in no time we had a dance floor. There were also other staff who solved some unexpected food restriction issues by bringing extra food out, etc. I was really happy with everyone! read more

I love the slogan, "These mothers can cook!" I just tried this catering company for an office lunch session and it was pretty delicious. The box lunches came in good portions and were quite healthy. The bread was all very fresh and the cookies were super tasty. I had a Chicken Caesar Salad. The lettuce was clean and fresh, the chicken was perfectly grilled. The only reason I'm giving 4 rather than 5 stars is because I thought the dressing wasn't flavorful enough for me. That being said, the fruit salad was a great addition. I will definitely be ordering again. Madres uses organic and locally-produced ingredients. That also use less packaging for the lunches in order to produce less waste which I greatly appreciate - it also made clean-up easier! read more

I needed to provide a catered dinner for 13 with a strict budget. Kristen provided me with a menu that met all of the dietary restrictions of the board members without compromising any of the luxe, delicious flavors. The grilled chicken in white wine shallot sauce was so great; well-cooked and not dried out. It was a crowd pleaser and I wanted to keep dunking bread in the sauce after all the chicken was gone despite how full I was. The roasted potatoes were great; not super exciting but a nice side dish with that delicious gravy from the chicken. The roasted, stuffed sweet potatoes filled with orange-tarragon quinoa with caramelized onions and garbanzo beans were healthy, filling and loaded with vegetarian protein. Yay! The salad was fine, the bread (as I previously stated) was perfect for dipping in the sauce and even the butter for the bread was beautifully salted. The desserts were yummy but I didn't really have room by then... I will use Madres for future catering events and encourage you to do the same! read more

We used Madres for a large welcome dinner we threw the night before our wedding. We were using a space we were unfamiliar with and that hadn't hosted a group of 100+ for a sit-down dinner before, so we were quite nervous about the outcome. It couldn't have gone any better. Madres was really attentive, helpful, and on-top of everything. They were very patient with us and answered all of our questions, and the workers who actually were at the event were really great. Madres catered a luncheon for my company's clients while they attended a class. We had the Italian buffet. We were provided with an attendant to keep the buffet stocked with warm, delicious food. They also provided vegan and gluten-free options, which are so tasty you'd never know they were vegan nor gluten-free. We had so many compliments on the food from our guests. It is with great sadness that I report that my husband and I have just polished off the last drop of the most bewitchingly delicious sauce I have ever eaten, left over from our party that Madres Kitchen catered so brilliantly last weekend. The food was inhaled with raves from all our guests (and although we are thrilled that they liked it so much, we would have loved some more leftovers). Pedro was the lead person on site and served as bartender. He was masterful at his job, and managed to be charmingly high-energy and personable while remaining always appropriate. Claribel was wonderfully capable and a delight to work with. She serenely handled the demands of keeping things flowing in our tiny 1929 kitchen and made it all look easy. From the first contact we had with Kristen Cole at Madres Kitchen, it's been a delightful experience. Based on our brief and incoherent description of the kind of party we had in mind, they put together a fantastic menu, organized all the rentals we would need, and helped us figure out the staffing. This was all for a price that was less than we told them we had budgeted. Almost as much as the great food, I appreciated how thoroughly they understood and respected our wishes. Even though the party was a wedding reception, Madres Kitchen never urged any traditional wedding stuffiness on us. We were going for elegant margarita-laced funkiness, or perhaps funky margarita-laced elegance, and they nailed it. I look forward to the day when I have another excuse to hire them, eat their pork arepas and chocolate cake, and take a bath in their rosemary lemonade while drinking from a gallon jug of their pepper sauce. read more

With my mother in law in charge of catering for our wedding, Madre's worked so well with the two of us to arrive at just the right menu for our taste and my mother in law's budget. I used Madres Kitchen for two different events -- a business luncheon and a party with heavy hors d'oeuvres. Both went extremely well, in large part because Madres Kitchen had my back in the food department. Ordering was easy, as was tweaking suggested menus to come to a final decision. Delivery and setup happened on time and very smoothly. It was great to have help during my party so I could attend to the guests and not have to worry at all about tidying plates and glasses through the event, as well as refreshing food platters. I found prices to be comparable with many caterers, lower than some others. The food was creative, well presented, and very tasty. I found Madres Kitchen on line when looking for a catering company to bring in an office lunch for 60 people. I wanted a hot lunch, not sandwiches, and had a very limited budget. Let me just say WOW Madres was awesome to work with. They were not deterred by my budget, instead they took the amount I had to work with, reviewed what they had already going on for my date to find ways to reduce cost, came back with a menu they could offer. Then they proceeded to deliver one of the most delicious lunches we've served in our office made from fresh, wholesome ingredients and loaded with flavor. Our office is a tough crowd, but they LOVED this lunch. Many of my coworkers gave me rave reviews like "best pasta I've ever eaten outside of my own home" ... Kristen and Heather were awesome to work with from beginning to end. Totally responsive and receptive to our questions and requests, and what's even better: really excited about the event and their part in it. We made an almost unconscious choice to go with only vendors who really enjoy and geek out about their work, and it makes a huge difference. As for the food, this is not your standard catering fare. You know how often when you go to a catered event, the food is just food? Edible, even tasty, but nothing to write home about? Everything Madres supplied at the vendor faire we found them at, our tasting, and at our own event was fantastic. It's the difference from a cheap pizza from a major chain, and a meal at your favorite restaurant. The quality really shows. I dream of those shrimp and sweet potato cakes. I might have to see if I can get them to deliver a box of them to my apartment once a week. Also worth noting: They share their space with a pretty fantastic baker (I don't recall the name,) and can provide super-delicious mini-desserts for your event as well. Madres recently catered a reception for me and did a wonderful job. Kristen was very helpful throughout the planning process and very responsive to my many emails. We had a pretty casual event of around 50 people with heavy apps and a bartender. We were able to provide our own alcohol and they also let us bring in our own cheese plate and dessert, which was super helpful since we had a small budget. All the food that Madres catered was delicious and I got lots of compliments from my guests. My event was near the stadium and there happened to be a concert scheduled the same evening - so it was basically mayhem and parking was scarce. The Madres staff (Pedro and Erica) acted like it was no biggie and just went with the flow. Their professionalism truly helped me keep my calm throughout the night.
