We went with the steel-cut pizza made with Wisconsin cheese and beer because it seemed like the better option, and it was amazing! The crust was thick and crispy, with plenty of sauce and flavor. We ordered a 14" pizza for the two of us and still had half left over, which I was actually happy about because we got to enjoy it again later! The wood-fired pizza at the table next to us looked even better, though, so I'll definitely be trying that next time. Always a must stop for the pre Great Taste of the Midwest Central Waters tap takeover on the Friday before the festival. This place is big, two floors, with a large central bar on the first floor. We arrived around 4pm on a Friday and of course the place was busy! We found a few seats on the drink rail across from the bar. We ordered up all the Central Waters deliciousness and were eventually able to move to the bar as people left. They satvus on the second level, the pizzas might take between 15 to 20 mins, however, those pizza are wood fire cooked, it is not pricey and also they have good selections, still you can make your own pizza if you want to. We went here last night to celebrate my daughter's graduation. I had made a reservation in advance since the holiday time is their busiest time of year from what I hear. I was absolutely stunned when I walked into this restaurant and saw all of their holiday decorations. It was beautiful! We had to wait about 15 minutes for our table, then headed up the stairs to be seated at a half circle booth for eight people. It was very tight, so we asked for a chair to be placed on the end which definitely made the seating arrangement better. However, the one spot on the end seemed as if the cushion part was missing from where people had been sitting, so that was not comfortable, and it should be replaced. The service was outstanding and I'm sorry I forgot to note our server's name. I ordered the chips and salsa, which was delicious. I had to question whether the salsa was indeed vegan since it seemed creamy. Thankfully it was vegan! For the entrée, I ordered a vegan mozzarella cheese pizza with mushrooms and spinach. It did not disappoint! The crust was amazing; I appreciate that it wasn't too salty. The tomato sauce was incredible. Great spot! This restaurant gives industrial-chic, and overall great vibes. We were in town for the weekend and our friends (who are locals) booked us a rez here. Good thing too because it was poppin' on a Saturday night. Turns out it's great for groups, as there were six of us and we were seated in a huge booth upstairs. Love how it's a big open-concept where you can see downstairs from above. Our server didn't seem all that delighted to be there, but she was attentive nonetheless. She returned quickly with a handful of drinks, including the three espresso martinis us gals ordered. These were so darn good! They do them great here. One of our friends ordered for the table, including the harvest salad to start. It was alright, just your average salad in my opinion. But the pizzas were the real enjoyment - we got a steel pan (which is Detroit-style), and a few of the wood-fired options. I think the umami pie was my fave as it has black garlic cream and a balsamic glaze. I'd certainly look to return here on another visit to town. Everyone in our group ordered a pizza, but only three came out at first. After about 5 minutes, the server checked and told us one pizza had been dropped in the kitchen, so they were remaking it. There is an upstairs area and a downstairs lounge area (perfect for company dinners/parties). During Miracle on King Street the drink menu changes to suit the holidays. The drinks here are both delicious and strong. They also sell vintage style Christmas cups to which I couldn't resist and bought a dinosaur cup. Great stop before a concert at Camp Randall a few weeks ago. We split a Caesar and The Queen. Loved the spicy Caesar with the chips on top! And the Queen was simple and delicious. The Mexican fusion with pizza is such a fun restaurant concept. Service was great especially since it was a really busy day. Make a reservation if you can. Super cute space. Visited Lucille during their Miracle on King St pop up. (Ends 12/24/24). Super fun holiday themed drinks due to the pop up and an explosion of holiday decor. Their menu has a good selection with a variety of salads, pizza, and shareables. Staff was very friendly and they kept us in the loop for example that we were going to have a switch in servers etc. They do note this in their reservations page but it is a two level space. Quite the stairs to go to level two so make sure if anyone in your group needs accessible seating or cannot do stairs well that you request seating on level one. read more

I arrived early to meet hubby at the Yelp event, and parked at the bar to warm up after walking from campus. The "Miracle on King" decor is super fun. The quantity of ornaments and lights was huge. The seasonal collection of cocktail glasses in use is amazing. The sole bartender was super busy, and I got to watch him make some fairly complex drinks. I'll tell you im 57 years old and this by far is the WORST PIZZA I HAVE EVER HAD. It was burnt, cheese was only in the center, most of this was just warm burnt bread with little sauce and basically no cheese. Our bill was over $70 dollars. They took off $10.00. The waitress was lovely and attentive. However, our pizza had to be remade after we asked about it several times. My pizza didn't arrive until about 40 minutes later, and when it did, it had a hair in it. They initially offered a 50% discount, and after mentioning the hair, the manager agreed to remove it from the bill. What surprised me the most was that the manager never came over to apologize or acknowledge the situation. For a restaurant of this type, that level of service is disappointing. Located on the Capitol Square area of downtown Madison Wisconsin, Lucille serves up a really good version of Detroit style pizza We first visited Lucille shortly after it opened, and at the beginning of the Detroit style pizza craze a while back. On this stop, we dropped in for Saturday lunch after visiting the Saturday farmer's market. We had a furry friend with the four of us, so needed a restaurant that had a shaded, outdoor patio that allowed dogs, which Lucille does. We got on the waitlist, quoted a 20 minute wait, and was seated before then. Service was fine throughout. It's a smaller menu, with two types of pizza available: wood-fired (Neopolitan) and steel-pan (Detroit). Both only come in one size, with the steel-pan ($33) having 8 pieces (enough to feed 3-4). We didn't like any of the specials, so just went with Build-your-own: ordered pepperoni and sausage (replaced by bacon...not sure what happened there). The pizza uses Mozzarella instead of Wisconsin Brick, and the toppings were quality. Delicious pizza, and easy to bring back to the hotel. An order of chips and salsa ($6) had good, well made salsa though the chips were a bit stale (probably because of the humid air). Two white rascals were good (had many of those in california) for $7. The fat orange cat kittens draft was good, but costly at $12 because of sourcing costs. Paying was easy directly at the table using Toast. read more

This is the second time I've been to Lucille, the last time was many years ago and the experience wasn't great. What a difference this time, my friend and I were looking for something close to our hotel and kind of wanted pizza so we gave it a try. On a busy Friday, we didn't have to wait for a table and had the choice of the patio or inside, we chose inside. We had a nice booth upstairs. I love the atmosphere, it's an old building and they have it open and industrial. Unlike last time, our service was great, but not intrusive, we had our order taken quickly, and our food was delivered quickly but she didn't hover, it would have been great to get more water but we survived. The drink menu is far better than most restaurants with some great cocktail options, you almost never see a French 75 on the menu. But having the drinks in the menu isn't enough, you have to execute them as well. My friend had a Hugo spritz and she is picky having had the in Italy, she said this was the best one she's had in the states, as good as the ones in Italy. We had cheese curds as an app and the serving size was perfect, they were breaded and served with a red sauce and ranch and everything was flavorful. Our pizza came out just after we finished the curds and it was so good. My friend had one of the specialty pizzas while I built my own. Both were great, the wood fire oven gives the edges some nice crispy spots but there are also chewy pieces. There was just the right amount of sauce and toppings and they didn't overdo the mushrooms which can cause the top to get watery. Overall it was a great experience and I will definitely go back next time I'm in Madison, definitely recommend. read more

Here's my food rundown: - Cheese curds (5/5): great seasoning, crisp outside, delicious ranch, no notes - Nachos (4.5/5): flavor was great, we got it with the pork shoulder and we actually ordered the 1lb and received the 3 lb version ??? def not complaining though haha. my only note is that the dispersion of toppings was a bit uneven (there was a TON of pickled onion on one side and rather sparse on the other) - Weekender pizza (3/5): the flavor was great !! all the toppings meshed together and the sausage was very flavorful; where it gets not so good is the construction-- the crust was perfectly crispy and amazing but the inner dough was undercooked and tasted a bit raw. also, the toppings were heavvyyy, i definitely appreciate the generosity but there was so much on top of the pizza it was sliding off (which i also suspect is a reason for the middle being underdone) This is a side note but my N/A margarita was missing its rim-- not a big deal but was kinda sad abt it :') Overall would totally come here again and give it another try! might've just been an off day with the pizza but the food was pretty tasty and the vibes were good read more

Great location, atmosphere, and pizza. We started with the nachos and guacamole. Portions were huge!! I loved that the guac came with Jicama and celery, I wish it was a little spicier. Nachos had the perfect ratio of toppings/cheese. They also were very big, and we ordered small. Tried the weekly special pizza and deep dish. I love that Lucille always has unique pizza options. If you don't want pizza, there are other entrees, like rice bowls. I tried the Bodega bowl and was really surprised - since they're known for their pizza. Service and atmosphere were great! We sat upstairs and it was so fun, very large open space with an industrial chic vibe.
