Rice Ball Salad (Nam Khao) - "Crunchy marinated rice salad with sour pork, roasted peanuts and herbs served on lettuce and betel leaves"
    Ed H.

Huddled in Korea BBQ territory is this place. I must have passed it a thousand times and never really noticed it was there. That was until Yelp told me that this was one of the few Thai restaurants in the local area. From the outside it may not look like much but once you're inside you will know what good Thai food smells like. It's sleek orange walls match the orange napkins which decorate every table. One of the first things we noticed was the sheer size of the menu. A total of 114 different meals on one side, large by even Thai restaurants standards. I must admit they I was concerned that so much variety might lead to underwhelming food, that old proverb "A jack of all trades, is a master of none." But how can I judge before I taste? A salad for starters, two mains, small rice ($2.50) and two lemon, lime & bitters ($4 each). The wait time was minimal before our Rice Ball Salad (Nam Khao) came out ($12.90). Quite a hearty dish, superb flavours and textures which really makes me appreciate salads a whole lot more. Full on yet delicate, soft and crunchy. A real unexpected masterpiece that ticks all the boxes. Our mains soon followed. A beef Massaman Curry (with chili added - $15.90) and a beef Pad Thai ($14.90). The Massaman's slow cooked beef was melt in your mouth perfect, the sauce was creamy and settled the spice of the added chili. By far one of the best curries I've ever had in a Thai restaurant. The Pad Thai lacked nothing. It was full of fresh flavours, nicely cooked beef and noodles with some bite. Went down well. The waitresses were attentive, they were polite and ready to help. There was hardly any wait time at all. All up it costed around $55 which was reasonable considering the amount of food we had. We will definitely be returning here again.

Have been wanting to try this restaurant but could never pull myself away from all the Korean options in Strathfield! We had the salt and pepper eggplant, tamarind prawns with special fried rice. The dishes were nice and flavoursome, but nothing to rave about. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

The place is quaint and has that family ran feeling. Most people take-away. PAD THAI CHICKEN $12.50 (with one prawn) Funny: with one prawn. That's exactly the description on the menu. When the dish arrived, it had exactly one prawn, at least they are honest. The Pad Thai was of a good standard and value. Of course it wasn't not the best ever but still very good for Ashfield. MASSAMAN BEEF CURRY $12.50 (The most famous Thai curry cooked with potato mild curry sauce) The massaman curry was the dish of the day. The beef was super tender and fell apart with a spoon. The result was a stringy meat in a well-balanced sauce. The latter wasn't overly sweet but still had a slight kick of chilli. The potatoes were cooked to breakdown point. This dish was the ultimate comfort food on a cold winter's night served with rice. thai number one ashfield massaman beef curry THAI MILK TEA ~$4 One of the best Thai milk teas after Green Peppercorn. It was well balanced and not too sweet. The signature robust tea taste was there. This is the perfect reliever if you are less chili tolerant. Conclusion Thai Number One is one of the better local dining options in the area. It is a no non-sense Thai restaurant that served great value food efficiently and more importantly tasty for most palettes. It is catered to a general audience as it isn't overly spicy. I will be a regular at this place as they seemed to be one of the better Thai places around Ashfield. They are also on Menulog (look out for vouchers). @thesydneynoob

It is such a tiny place and there was not a spare table in the short time we were there. Also, the passing parade of takeaways never stopped. The parking is a nightmare. This place is really for the locals. It does not accept credit cards and only does cash. The wait staff are very polite and everything seems efficiently done. After looking at the real menu and seeing what we were offered tonight, just not so sure it was a bargain.

But once I grew up and moved to the suburbs I needed to find a place to fix my Satay shakes. Little Thailand in Croydon Park was my local for a long time and also became my goto Thai place. It is in tight competition with Doytao Thai in Croydon, I think Little Thailand is better for lunch whereas Doytao is better for Dinner. My favourite lunch specials are the Stir Fried Peanut Sauce and Pad Thai/Pad Kee Mow. Currently they have a $10 lunch+drink special. There is parking around the back, next to the school, plus a bunch of on street parking. It does get busy at night but I have never had to park too far away. Inside is fairly welcoming, some decorations and nicely lit. The best spots are the furthest tables away from the door and counter, as there will be a steady stream of people coming in and waiting around for take-away. Rating is probably more around the 3.5 mark, but rounded up since it is one of the better places around the area.

I don't won't to eat from your filthy fingers. It got much worse, waited another 40 minutes for mains, then one arrived, almost completed eating that and the second arrived, not as ordered ... Soft Shell Crab with Thai Basil and Chilli - had to be re-done because it arrived with vegetables and Cashew (nuts which I am allergic to). It came back, not re-cooked but with the nuts removed and represented, hence I am violently ill. In response to the Head Waitress enquiry "is everything OK?" I responded with, "No" and went on to explain why and asked for the bill immediately. She brought the bill, threw it on the table and uttered the word "Malaca" - Can any reasonable person explain this foreign expression without being rude? This Head Waitress was very rude. I confronted her over her term "Malaca" whilst delivering the bill, she replied, "I was speaking to my sister in my native tongue" ... Didn't sound Thai to me. I love Thailand, its people and its food. These people running Little Thailand need to grasp what normal hospitality, let alone Thai hospitality is.
