I have been served by Maestoso Kennels for 37 years, and have come to know owners and staff extremely well through the years. All 4 of our standard poodles, and now 1 miniature poodle have either come directly from the Kennel, or via the generous help and connections of the Kennel. With each grooming and boarding, I come to learn a little more about how much these folk care about dogs and their people. Early on, I learned that if I didn't want a direct and honest answer, perhaps I'd better reconsider asking the question: in today's Politically Correct world, I can see how such a level of honesty could be misconstrued as an "extensive lecture." Rather, Maestoso Kennels cares enough about me and my dogs to tell me the honest truth they perceive I need to hear. And I, for one, would have it no other way. The reviewer Sherry I do not know, but Maestoso Kennels I do know and have known -- as I've indicated -- for years. In her review, Sherry wildly speculates Maestoso wounded her dog in vengeance against her for missing an appointment. Sherry's charge is absolutely inconceivable to me at any level. It is so out of the character for the dog-and-people-lovers of Maestoso Kennels, that I was compelled to create my Yelp account simply to answer these over-the-top charges. These are dog-lovers you can trust to give your dog the very best of care throughout your pet's stay. That's why I drive the 200-mile round-trip every time our 4-footed-friends need grooming or extensive boarding. They are that good. I read the comment below mine and these people have to be crazy! Maestoso Kennel have been grooming my Shih Tzus since the were little puppies! We have tried different styles on them (sometimes short, sometimes long.) They always have a positive suggestion on how they should be groomed according to their hair type and body shape. They have even educated my family on how to do their hair at home and keep up with their hair in between visits. And they always come home looking amazing! Our dogs have never been cut or mistreated. Their love for animals really comes through every time we drop off and pick up our dogs. They show and Kennel all kinds of dogs and always bring up the safety of the animals before their own. Our dogs have never been scared to go and even get excited to leave with them. They come home happy and healthy every time! We will never choose anyone different! We have been grooming and boarding our dogs at Maestoso Kennels for years. Our dogs have never feared going Maestoso, which tells me they are treated well during their stay. The folks who run Maestoso are very caring people! We live out of town and my husband has been hospitalized in Rockford several times. The last time he was admitted to the hospital, I called Maestoso "after hours" to see if I could drop our dog off so I could spend more time with him at the hospital. Mildred was very gracious -- first by answering the phone after closing time and second, by letting me deliver the dog to them later that evening. Mildred and Terry have had many of my poodles boarding there and being shown. My dogs always greet and love them and remember their kind treatment. Mildred does a wonderful job of grooming. I always feel they have the best interest of the dog at the forefront. read more
