Newburgh, NY - if you'd assumed that Orange County Choppers hailed from Orange County, CA (as I…read moredid), it might surprise you to learn they were actually founded in Orange County, NY, and formerly headquartered in Newburgh. So there's a pleasing logic to Motorcyclepedia setting up shop in this city, which turned out to have a surprising motorcycle pedigree associated with its industrial-era manufacturing past. The core of the collection is American iron: Harley-Davidson, custom choppers (including works by Arlen Ness and a tribute to Indian Larry), rarities like the short lived Excelsior-Henderson, and antique pioneer motorcycles, as well as police & military bikes (including one that was part of the motorcade when JFK was assassinated), and more that are part of specialty and thematic exhibits. A smattering of British, Japanese, and European brands are represented as well. The crown jewel is the massive gallery dedicated to Indian motorcycles - I believe one of the largest Indian collections in the world - displaying every model made (originals and replicas) between 1901-1953 during active production. Even if you're not a moto enthusiast, this museum is super cool and interesting, and is very family/kids-friendly! (Free admission for ages 16 and under.) There's an awesome exhibit of iconic motorcycles from Hollywood TV & movie classics such as The Terminator, Ghost Rider, Easy Rider, Tron, Batman, Happy Days, etc. And as a fan of 60s-70s B movies, I also dug the groovy retro music & movie memorabilia spread out across the museum. Kids are more than welcome. My preschooler (who's more of a car guy) loves the play corner with toys, rides, coloring, and cartoons, or just wandering around the sprawling complex looking at stuff, which is an adventure in itself (and exercise for me!). There are many unique vehicles, not just old bikes and whatnot, though yes, plenty of those too. Founded by Gerald "Jerry" Doering and joined by his son Ted, the father-son duo opened Motorcyclepedia in 2011 (incidentally right after the conclusion of the American Chopper series which propelled OCC to fame) in this massive 85,000 sqft space, starting with their own collection and growing it to the 750+ bikes on display today over two warehouse-sized levels. Wear walking shoes! I was surprised by how much bigger the space kept revealing itself to be. Motorcyclepedia is an absolute treasure, and a must-do attraction in the Hudson Valley IMO. Whether you're a casual visitor or a die-hard motorhead and history buff, there's a lot to explore and be entertained by, with plenty of photo ops and props. We've shared this experience with many out-of-town visitors and everyone has loved it.

There have multiple floors within the museum, if you have stroller or need assistance with steps, there are elevators. The bathrooms are located on the basement level. Basement level also contained small arms (guns, knives) exhibits. This floor is musty and my allergies were impacted. Subbasement is large arms (jeep, canons). Alot of really cool artifacts collected over the years and different wars is worth the see. The Visitor Center is next door. I recommend to come to the West Point Museum first because this will take 2+ plus hours to complete. Then go to the Visitor Center to watch a short video and then do the life of a cadet of West Point and see photos of famous graduates of West Point to our time. Price: free Bathroom: needs renovation, but large enough to move around if you have a stroller or wheelchair.

Also presents the history of war, the history of small arms, the history of large arms, some fascinating military items seized during war, etc. Example of fascinating items taken in combat or surrendered- Hitler's tiny gold piston, Goering's baton, a dagger from Okinawa.... Along the way the interpretive kiosks tell the story of the 1779 Battle of Stony Point, a midnight raid that was conducted so expertly by Continental forces, led by "Mad Anthony" Wayne, that it would make SAS Commandos envious. Due to some construction the museum was not open on the day my wife and I visited, and there were no reenactors around but it was still well worth a visit. Much of that had to do with Eric, one of the site's docents. Eric was very informative, educational and just an all around great guy to talk to. I knew a bit about the battle but Eric's detailed information was illuminating. And it wasn't just history of the battle we learned about. He told us about everything from the 19th century lighthouse to the ancient glacial fjord that formed the Hudson to the Eastern Cicada-Killers! Thanks, Eric! All in all, Stony Point Historic Site is well worth a visit. You could probably cover most of it in an hour or two but if you're history freaks like us you'll want to plan for three to four.

The website is sadly out of date and talks about a fundraiser that just happened that seems to have happened three years ago! We were there recently and I have to say it looks really ratty, worn out grimy, peeling paint and neglected. It's probably not nice to say this without volunteering to help out but I can't do that. Facts are facts. Pretty disappointing.

I enjoyed seeing A Murder mystery, and wanted to go there because I like horror movies, so why not attend this show. Overall enjoyed it. Definetely suggest if one has any hearing disabilities, get some seats towards the front, it really helps! Also enjoyed the dessert at intermission, but why only vanila? I prefer chocolate. I also didn't like the apple pie, as i put in the last review- how about different flavor pies? enjoyed the ice cream though at least. Also their restrooms seemed pretty clean, so that's good. Will be back to see Suessical in September!
